Loved it. The first scene alone is one of the best moments in the show's modern history. The spliced together footage was genius. I'd love to seem them do it again for the 50th, but I think it would be too soon to do it two episodes in a row.
The ending... I actually think the ending has me pumped up for that one thing we've heard that I didn't like the idea of. In execution, though, I really like where this is going. Definitely looking forward to the 50th now. Nice to see that the second part of season 7 is out on disk soon, but where's my season 7 boxset (complete with the 2011 Christmas special)? |
Just watched The Name of the Doctor. And I have one overwhelming thought...
WHAT DO YOU MEAN I HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL NOVEMBER?!?!?!?!?!?! |
Rewatched the episode and something about the end occurred to me. Back in his second episode, when he was about to kill the star whale, the Doctor says - and I just looked this up to double check - "Three options. One, I let the Star Whale continue in unendurable agony for hundreds more years. Two, I kill everyone on this ship. Three, I murder a beautiful, innocent creature as painlessly as I can. And then I find a new name 'cause I won't be The Doctor anymore."
Interesting. Coincidence or intentional foreshadowing? |

I managed to avoid spoilers somehow so I enjoyed that ending quite a bit. Though I totally got the feeling it was meant to be the 12th Doctor, not that weird 9th rumor. Though then again it's unlikely they'll get John Hurt for season or more of episodes.
Also did I miss it, or did they not really say the Doctor's name? |

They didn't actually and thank goodness for that.
My problem with John Hurt being the 12th is that how would the 11th know? Unless he did peek into the future when he dove into his time... scar... thing. I've already seen people guessing he's the Valeyard... which I looked up since I didn't know who that was at all. But yeah, evil spawn of the Doctor. It could maybe work? Then I remembered they specifically said "John Hurt as THE DOCTOR." Despite Matt Smith just having said he wasn't known as that. Which is more confusing. So yeah. This wait's gonna suck haha. |

If he is the Valeyard then shouldn't the final regeneration be in there with all the other regenerations since his form was like a weird bridge.
