It was not. The Hatena Bugsters is from the game Hatesate Puzzle that the victim of the movie created, Perfect Puzzle wasn't even a thing at the time.

If the person is somewhat versed in Japanese dramas maybe try showing them Kuuga, Kabuto, Den-O, W, and Fourze for starters.
