Ugh, politics in Doctor Who production. Has this happened before?

Working off Matt Smith being the 13th Doctor, and the fact we know Peter Capaldi is in the Christmas Special means the breaking of the 12 regeneration limit has to be squashed up into a single episode which also deals with cybermen, weeping angels, the silence, trenzalore (possibly in multiple time frames if my reading of the short trailer turns out correct)...

I really hope this isn't going to be a huge mishmash of nonsense. There is A LOT going on there. You've got to admit.

After the 50th I have renewed faith that Moffat can deliver, but from everything I've heard rumoured so far, it's not looking good. If the teasing and rumours are right then all this might even include the return of River Song if only in memory.

Oh but I mean that in a I-love-everything-the-Doctor-Who-series-does-regardless-on-its-own-merits kind of way. I'm not knocking it, I'll still enjoy watching it, but I can always speculate how it could go wrong :P

There were certainly issues during John Nathan Turner's tenure in the 80s - I know script editor Eric Saward quit and Colin Baker naturally had issues with the direction his Doctor/seasons went in (but most of this came out in interviews later). I don't think it ever got as "high-profile" as this though.

I doubt the enemies are going to play that bigger role in the episode to be honest, just like the Daleks and Zygons were in the 50th. They'll probably be a framing device and that's it. It's still a lot to get in admittedly, but the 12 limit thing doesn't necessarily need a whole amount of time dedicated to it depending on how its played. Its something that hasn't been mentioned at all in the new series, and its already been established that the Doctor is going to Trenzalore/dying. So the seeds are kinda already there.

Just realised we also have daleks and a ... woman in make up. Yep, it's official. I'm very curious as to how this can all play into one story.

Not forgetting a possible wooden cyberman?

So Ive been watching more of the 10th (that is Tennant right?) my favorite one so far is the High School episode. K-9 was pretty cool.

School Reunion was fantastic. One of my favourite Tennant episodes :D

It really was fantastic to see Elizabeth Sladen again, she looked so good at that age. It's a shame such a wonderful actress and big character like her passed before the big anniversary. And more K9 is always a treat. Except for that spin off series. We dare not speak of it....

As you have already guessed, "Torchwood" is the arc word for this series like Bad Wolf was in series 1.

If I recall correctly, proper Torchwood didn't air until around the third series of the new run. So all the references in series two were foreshadowing for the various Torchwood storylines. I will spoil nothing of what is to come, though.

Finale of Season 2-

Wow. Those were some awesome episodes! A bit rushed on the end. But damn he almost told Rose he loved her! Then they end it by showing chick in a wedding dress... Good Lord, they go from serious to WTF in about 3 seconds...

Man, I actually liked Rose as well, it sucked. I think Im gonna wait a few days on starting the next season. Either start Torchwood or just go ahead and start :lol

Skip Torchwood. It's really not worth investing the time into.

Go straight to Who. Don't worry about Rose, you know from the 50th that Billie Piper will be back in the future. :D

I don't like Torchwood much, so my opinion is to go straight to Who too. Besides, it's better to finish Who first.

I wouldn't say that. There are actually some really solid episodes in at least seasons 1 & 2. But there are just as many misses in there too. I think it's worth it for the experience you get of the wider Whoniverse.

Definitely watch it after Who though. It doesn't impact the show.

I'd agree with you on season 2 but I thought the first season was pretty dire. That was when all the show literally cared about was sex.

Children of Earth is the real masterpiece of Torchwood. Plus Peter Capaldi. Enough said.

Torchwood itself was a well-written show. You're going to get sex when you head (giggity) a team with Jack Harkness, but it was still really good. Even Abbadon. Children of Earth is a tragedy. In a very, very good way. I won't spoil anything. But the last half is completely gut wretching, especially Peter Capaldi's character's decision in the final chapter. One he didn't even have to make because of Jack's heart-wretching decision to use his grandson to end the Crisis. I haven't watched the Starz series Miracle Day yet. But I think that might be because I was satisfied with how CoE ended, and they could've answered all unanswered questions with a movie or something. In my opinion.

But stick with it. Torchwood gets very good.

Season 1 takes it to extremes though. I think it could be because it was written for BBC3 for its initial airing but then got bumped up to the better regarded BBC2 and then eventually BBC1. Season 1 has its moments, but season 2 is where everything starts coming together nicely. Rhys becomes a main character, and then you get the great episodes with Martha and James Marsters.

And honestly, you're better off skipping Miracle Day. Again it has its moments, but not only is it longer than it needs to be but it just opens up even more questions with new characters which are shallow replacements of the older ones.

The problem with Captain Jack is that is entire set up is a dropped plot point. Those years taken away from him by the time agency? Never mentioned again.

Plus the show won't let you forget for one minute in series 3 that she's gone. I liked Rose, too, but I was actually got really sick of her after she left. I know that sounds weird now, but trust me, it will make sense later.
