It... was really good at the time, is probably the best way to put it. When there had never been a movie before that brought back all of the Kamen Riders alongside the modern guy, this film was amazing. Just the scene alone where the dimensional wall appears and every other Rider but J steps out to stand with Decade was glorious. Now that we get these every year, though, it has to stand on its story and direction, at which point it's just another plothole-filled Yonemura story with the same direction we've seen in all of Kaneda's other Rider/Sentai-fests. |
Faiz er....I forget where I started, but I watched up to thirteen.
It's been alright so far. I don't think it's reached the levels of awful I've heard people talk about yet. Though, Yuka's occasional murder sprees are disturbing as shit. I mean, I know she's had a messed up household, but she's all for Kiba's let not kill humans plan...though it's not like Kiba has his hands clean either. Did...did they forget he killed his douchebag cousin and former fiancee? Did he forget??? Maybe when you first become a natural Orphenoc, you have a massive violent streak or something and you have to try to reign it in. I say natural Orphenoc, because Kaido, who's supposedly the wild card loose cannon of the three main Orphnocs and the only 'non-natural' one, is the one who hasn't killed a single person so far. Oh wait, there is something that pisses me off. These, uh, love dodecahedrons they've got going on. So Keitaro is in love with his penpal who he doesn't know is Yuka, but he falls for Yuka not knowing she is his penpal so he believes he's two-timing his penpal, UT!!!! Yuka's in love with Kaido, who's in love with Mari and I guess Takumi likes Mari, but Mari might like Kaixa, or Kusaka. ugh.... Look...that's entirely too much. Have a romance subplot, but don't make it...this. Or at the very least don't have Keitaro and Yuka continuously run into eachother and not recognize who they are. If I remember right, there was a scene where she runs into hi mas he's using his cell phone. COME ON! This isn't gonna last the entire series, right? ...Right? Oh and hey, the Kaixa subplot was pretty interesting. With the fact that it has this deadly belt that apparently kills anyone except Kusaka...I've heard things about this guy. None of them good. But so far? The scene where he's apparently in every sport ever was pretty funny and his personality is Similar to Ren form Ryuki's so far. So, without spoiling anything, on a scale of one to ten 'Fuck you Micchy!'s" how ad does Kusaka get? I would spout off some speculation or theories about the Lucky clover group, but...there's a black dude in there! Random! Sadly, of course, he's the first of them to fight. But, wait! He can revive! I'm willing to bet he'll still die first before the others even get to transform. Hell, he lost two of his lives already, I think. Shimada's actress playing Smart Lady will never stop weirding me out. I think she pulls it off well, but man...it's WEIRD seeing her go from a eccentric goofball in Ryuki then act like a mildly creepy goofball in Faiz. Weird or not, I actually really like the contrast honestly. Oh yeah and Takumi was there too. I wouldn't say he's bland, but he seems like he doesn't care about anything for the longest time. Like it feels like he's just helping fight Orphenoc's cause...well, why the fuck not? He even says as much when he says he doesn't have a dream. The only reason I can gather that he's still doing this is that he finds being a superhero entertaining. I mean he did seem pretty irritated when Kaido had the belt. |

As for Kusaka, he'd probably rank in to me as a 7.5. Then again I'm bias because I love the guy to death. |

Except for Kusaka. I fucking hate that guy. Not as like a plot device but he's a big dick. |

The difference between Kusaka and Micchy is that Micchy actually has an arc to him becoming a dick. Michhy is a pretty heroic guy for ten episodes or so, then he discovers Zangetsu's identity and starts being conflicted between loyalty to Kouta and Team Gaim and loyalty to his brother and Yygdrasil's basicly heroic mission. His problem is that he trie to hedge his bets and work with both sides, and eventually just snaps and wants to control everyone.
Kusaka? As I remember it we get like one or two episodes of him being an arrogant jerk but otherwise an okay guy, the he just goes full steam ahead into being a massive asshole and trying to manipulate everything so that Mari will love him. |
Kusaka when you find out his motives you can actually kind of justify why he's being a dick, and he's heroic most of the time except for when he messes with Takumi and Kiba.
Super-1 Episode 34: Super-1 getting arrested by Jin Dogma's police was definitely fun to see except they forget that he's super agile, and has super-strength hands too. The siren monster Red Danger proved to be a crafty opponent for Super-1, so far all of Princess Yokai's monsters have given him a difficult challenge. The Junior Rider Squad member Masaru taking in the Siren wasn't a good idea but he learned from so that's good. Looks like another Professor Ghost monster next, I like Professor Ghost so that should be fun. |

Speaking of Faiz, Faiz isn't "bad" so much as monumentality boring. The reason I was able to finish Kuuga, is minus the dated effects and clashing tone, it had Ichijou (one of THE best supporting characters in Rider EVER) and some genuinely focused, and strong world building. To put that in perspective, my most hated Rider show gave me stuff worth watching up until the end, whereas I dropped Faiz in like...the thirties? The show was literally about nothing and even when it was about something the shows complete utter disregard for continuity made it laughable. In the first twenty episodes Takumi goes through literally the same character arc over and over again. Then there was the way there'd be a ten second fight at the start, which wrapped up the ten second fight at the end of the last episode and then this fight would never be referenced again despite being the most important part of the episode. Honestly the characters were so disconnected from the suit actors you may as well be in another show as the middle 19 minutes featured a bunch of antagonistic douchebags ironing and not doing a lot else. |
KIT/MCS released episode 35 of Stronger, in which great effort is undertaken to disguise the return of a character who's name is in the episode's title: V3.
Yup, we're into the final stretch of Stronger, which features the return of all six previous Riders, both in and out of costume. I hope the rest of these don't take too long, as it's a ton of fun to see all the Riders working together. |

It really feels like the writers thought they were getting a full 50 episodes, then had to cobble something together at the last minute. Though at least the action is still the superb Decade style fighting that the rest of the series has. |
If the movie has good action, I might give it a watch as a way to kill a few hours. I just thought it might be terrible across the baord.

Blade 29/30/31
While the show was hella weird and confusing so far, things seem to get really interesting by now, even though the Upgrades didn't impress me that much. It's a pity that Tachibana has got nothing to do since he joined Kenzaki and the others again and Mutsuki disappearing for some episodes and now reappearing was also pretty strange, but I do like that Hajime got a little character arc in the past few episodes and apparently, we finally get to see some character development for Kenzaki too in the next few episodes. So far though, the characters that shine are still Hajime and Koutarou. |

Super-1 Episode 35: This was a very different episode of Super-1, the main reason I say this is that the monster of the week took a back seat to Professor Ghost and Super-1. Professor Ghost created a poison gas with the help of a kidnapped Scientist, who manages to escape and gets saved by the Junior Rider Squad and Super-1. I love the Junior Rider Squad because I thought they'd just be annoying but these kids are half the reason Super-1 saves the day, they are very helpful and useful. I love how Kazuya just breaks out of the shackles and transforms because he is a cyborg, I don't think regular Shackles would hold him. In the end the monster of the week is super easily defeated, even Super-1 said he wasn't qualified to be his opponent and he really wasn't. Professor Ghost is very creepy and definitely has a vendetta against Super-1 more now than before. Less than 15 episodes left I can't wait to see what happens next.
Super-1 Episode 36: Most annoying monster ever! I never wanted a monster to get his ass kicked so bad than this annoying clown scissors guy. Now Commander Onibi's plan to cause chaos through controlling scissors was something else but still the monster would just sing this song over and over again and it was driving me nuts. My favorite part was when Super-1 proved rock really does beat scissors and through giant rocks at him. Well then he kicked him, melted him, and kicked him to oblivion so that made me really happy. |
Kamen Rider Black 10, 11, 12
Y'know...for an episode called "Where's Nobuhiko?", in 10 Kotaro only ponders his whereabouts for almost literally five seconds before something else comes up. Other than that, pretty fun set of episodes. But one thing I keep forgetting since it's been a while since I saw the first couple of episodes, Kotaro's sisters and I think his uncle(?) both know about the Gorgom and that he's Black, right? Now for these Gorgom's plot... For 10: First, we cause a series of car crashes, and gather a bunch of ambulances to pick up the crashees from the wreckage. Only these ambulances aren't REALLY ambulances. And their drivers aren't REALLY going to take them to a real hospital. Instead we'll use their gratitude towards us healing them to get them to join are militia, which will spread seeds of dissent throughout all countries of the world! My favorite line in this episode had to be when the militia commander/fake hospital worker saw that Kotaro wasn't badly hurt and said, "Oh, looks like your wound is nothing serious. ...So hey wanna join a militia?" But man, for as over-the-top as the Golgom are, they sure havemassive connections everywhere. People really wanna be made into a mutant, it seems. I mean yeah, they might look kinda cool like the lizard one in 10, but is it worth it, when you know there's a chance of a cyborg grasshopper dude kicking you to death? Anyway, the dastardly plan for 11: Oh...uh...right, we forgot to buy food feed our mutant army. Looks like their killing eachother for scraps of food. We should probably send Cactus mutant to fix that by planting mysterious cacti all over the surrounding region. Anyone pricked by the pins of these cacti will slowly and painfully mutate until plant grow out of their bodies. These plant will grow fruit and these fruit will go on to feed our mutants! MWAHAHA! When, I compared the breakdancing street gangs in episode 9 to Gaim, I was joking. But this...this episode seems like it directly inspired more than a few aspects of Gaim, I think. I would say something about there being a Cactus Mutant, but they do sometimes have at least one plant one. The bat mutant really is their most reliable mutant. If only, because he's smart enough to run away from the guy who kicked so many of his brethren to their fiery deaths. They actually remembered Nobuhiko for ten seconds this time! But really, I suppose Kotaro's so busy superheroing and protecting others form the Golgom, he doesn't have time to search for Nobuhiko. Either that, or...the one thing the Golgom are actually consistently good at is hiding their hideout. So, I guess this episode's ending explains why the Golgom don't have hundreds of mutants stored up. Then there's 12: There was no real wacky plan here. It was pretty straightforward actually. They had a scientist build them a super-cycle for their army, but like Kotaro's stepfather, he had second thoughts when they planned on using his son as their test subject so they had him and his daughter-in-law killed while his son and grandson escaped. I do like how they instantly assumed that "Kotaro Minami! He MUST be after Road Sector too!" But...that's not too much of a stretch hoenstly. So Kotaro's got another bike. Road Sector's pretty cool. Still like Battle Hopper better. So...I guess he'll just switch bikes now whenever he feels like it, then? |

Well I came up to episode 28 of Kabuto. So uh Daisuke? Daisuke? Which is which? Did the worm really? Hyper form!?

Super-1 Episode 37: I love the Junior Rider Squad they are so awesome in helping Super-1 defeat Jin Dogma. Well it was interesting to see a Jin Dogma Super-1 clone with a yellow scarf reminiscent of the Shocker Riders I am going to guess. I love the location of this episode it was very fun to look at. I loved seeing Tani, Choro, and Kazuya go Star Wars here and dress up as the Soldiers. Interesting that it was two Commander Onibi episodes back to back. I really am excited for when Super-1 Fights against them head Generals that should be so much fun.

Finally have some free time again, so I'm picking Black RX back up. Episode 23 is pretty much just 20 minutes of Japanese children being assholes. :lol

With the Figuart now out now seemed like the perfect time to watch Shin Kamen Rider: Prologue. I have VERY mixed feelings about it :lol
The characters and the pacing were dreadful. None of the characters were at all memorable, and the first 40 minutes was basically just Shin running around while people gave him extremely vague answers to questions and said "the Organisation" repeatedly. While I like the idea of a more adult-orientated Kamen Rider too, nothing says try hard like 4 gruesome murders in the first 3 minutes and nudity which adds absolutely nothing to the story. Thankfully things picked up a bit once the first proper transformation happened. I quite liked that the organisation remained unexplained and just stayed in the shadows for now, but there were way too many things left unexplained by the end of it. I guess that's the problem of a Prologue that was never followed by anything, but a better attempt to make it stand alone could have easily been made. The ending was not just abrupt, it was pretty bad all around. What was really amazing about this film though were the visual affects. That brilliant transformation, the gruesome fighting style, the level 2 cyborg, the weird head-splitting telepathy thing...it was all so gloriously 90s and encompassed everything I love about practical effects. If anything the biggest problem was that there simply wasn't enough of it. Oh, and that embryo was laughably bad :lol Certainly an interesting film worth checking out, but not really a good one. |
Well, I watched Fourze 1-8 for the first time today. I was gonna stop around two or four episodes, but I was having too much fun. This series is awesome! Space is awesome!
Gentaro's an awesome Rider so far with a lotta personality, and his goal of making friends with EVERYONE in the school is an admirable one. But man...this is one weird ass school! Why do most of the delinquents look like they're in their thirties, haha. It's really cool seeing how he slowly builds up the Kamen Rider club, through helping out the students. And best of all ,the old Neo-Heisei format of two partners isn't' bothering me at all. |

Been watching Kamen Rider W finally and man just finished watching episodes 5 and 6, that was such a nice thing for Philip to do and Shoutro too but god that made me sad, the poor girl thinks her father is W. Really well done set of episodes too, ones of those times I appreciate the two episode arcs.
|
Watching both Faiz and Ryuki...SO hard to believe the same actress plays both Faiz's Smart Girl and Ryuki's Shimada...definitely shows her versatility.
|
Thinking of watching Ryuki myself seeing as I burnt pretty much all my other Rider options at this point.

Anyway, I figured since I've been focusing a lot on Sentai and PR recently, I should take on a Rider series. I'm thinking Agito or Faiz... |

Well I still have Amazon to work through. Maybe I'll start rewatching Rider shows afterwards, rather than trying Ryuki. Wouldn't mind giving OOO and Wizard a second go around, just to see how my favourites hold up.
