Gaim 26: Oh man...Sour Grapes...
EDIT 27: Wow...Kaito just acknowledged Kouta's strength! I'm surprised. |
Watching Faiz 23. Kusaka is just a pile of scum. Good God.
|
Gaim 27: The Melon isn't all bad after all. :)
Gaim 28: OH HOH!!!!!! BETTER PUT SOME ICE ON THAT BURN MICCHY!!! MUTINY!!! MUTINY I SAY!!! 29: Ohai Kikaider. I bet Sagara is the White Invess. By the way...I agree 100% with some of you guys. Why Kouta is still using Jinba is beyond me. 30: This episode is AU, right? 31: Woah! He...Dang Sid... |

Super-1 Episode 38: Jin Dogma sure has some crazy plans. Well Professor Ghost is definitely the mad scientist type with creating this Utopia trying to brainwash people into joining Jin Dogma. I love seeing the challenges Kazuya has to fight through they are very different each time with each new monster. This time it was a Refrigerator Monster, he looked very cool lol. I think I have 10 more episodes left which will be sad, but this had taken a while for me. This is what I get for watching 3 series at once. I'll continue with Garo when I finish this series though. Oh also I loved the fight scenes in this Kazuya both normal and transformed kick so much ass. Also he was fighting shirtless in the river in this episode. I loved the aerial attacks taking down the Jin Dogma Soldiers too. |

I also didn't realize that Naomi in Den-O was Mana in Agito or Hojo from Agito was one of the Lucky Clover members from Faiz. Also goes with Bandou in Gaim, I didn't realize he was also in Kabuto. I just don't notice these guys when I watch series lol. |
So yeah, pretty sure I'm hooked on Agito now that I'm at the 17 mark.
P.S. Kusaka is awesome <3 |

I saw something on TV tropes about how Wizard is a deconstruction.
Kamen Rider Wizard deconstructs the old classic Kamen Rider trope of having good monsters. For a while, the Kamen Rider Franchise had quite the number of monsters who become good guys, or at least be neutral with varying degrees of good, particularly in the Heisei era, where the monsters in most cases were either human once or took the guise of a human. Kamen Rider Wizard went both ways with that, as Phantoms were human, but were just essentially an inner demon ripping apart and taking control of their human host, called Gates. However, the show wags at the audience with the idea that not all Phantoms are evil, much like the previous shows. However, every time they did, they point out just how absurd that is when the Phantom's personality almost counterbalances the Gate's personality, as the Phantom uses the memories and feelings of their Gate and uses it to their advantage. In two cases, the Phantom managed to convince their victim that there's good in them... only to kick them to the ground and dash any hopes of that. There is a case where a Phantom believes he's still human... And he is, but only because he was so evil to begin with that he pretty much became a Phantom as opposed to having a Phantom rip him apart. It's reconstructed with Haruto's Phantom, Dragon. Even if Dragon is a petty dick who only wants Haruto to fall to despair, he's somewhat surprised when Haruto begs him to lend some power and that he gives him hope. Eventually, he warms up to Haruto and when he gets killed, revives as a being of pure hope, ready to give Haruto all the hope he can muster. LOL as if Wizard was smart enough to do that. |
So I can't remember the last time I watched an episode that wasn't the newest Gaim..just been busy ya know. Gonna get back to watching Faiz I think, I was really enjoying that and do wish I had been able to go through the little watchthrough that Locke, Winston, and I were doing but alas...
That said, I'm not sure that I'm going to do write-ups for every episode like I had been. I may chime in every now and then if something really catches my attention worth making mention of but, while it didn't really hurt my enjoyment of other seasons, and I did really like having discussions as I was watching..I dunno, it seems to really slow up my viewing and I stop and take notes and write my posts as I watch a lot and it just kinda makes it more job-like than just sitting back and enjoying the show. I don't recall if I did an episode by episode for Ryuki, I certainly recall discussing it as I watched though, so maybe I'll go back to how I did things before. That said..I don't remember what episode I left off on for Faiz, Kabuto I think I was on like..4 or 5, something like that. |

This is why I keep a word document listing everything I'm watching and what episode I am on :lol |
Yeah I got to the late thirties, realised the show was just going round in circles, got confirmation it never goes anywhere and decided to not let it waste any more of my time.
|
Ah, well congrats to Winston for being the one to tough it out between us hahaha. I really did want to finish, but..fuckin' life right?
I finish what I start though, so even if it does ultimately go nowhere I'll see it to the end. We tend to have fairly comparable opinions though, what did you think overall of the series Locke? And Winston, what did you think? And damn, word document seems like such a no brainer way to keep my place. I usually just left the tabs open and hope that my browser didn't reset hahaha. |
I loved Faiz action, suits, designs and effects and pretty much hated everything else. Well everything but Mari, so gorgeous~

Oh, and it's movie Paradise Lost is the best Kamen Rider movie that ties into a show EVER in my opinion. So yeah, I liked it quite a bit and would recommend it. |

The action in it is awesome, and I love the Orphnochs. So much to love about Faiz when you get past its flaws. The movie is one of the better ones out there. |

Kamen Rider Black 13-15
Okay time for more zany Gorgom plots. In 13...: We're going to send the Crab Mutant out to kidnap the mothers of newborn children and mind control them to raise our crab mutant eggs which will be the front lines in our army to take over the world!!! Okay, so...wouldn't it make more sense to capture experienced mothers instead of new ones, Gorgom? I mean the mother of the child of the week was on her second kid, but the general plan seemed to involve specifically finding new mothers. Also the Gorgom sure are overconfident in their mutants ability to kill Kotaro, despite that NEVER working out for them. I really like the scene in Kotaro's secret base/garage where he works with a microscope to find out the crab mutant's weakness. Very classic superhero-y. I'm unclear if the mothers were mind controlled or not, because as soon as the important one saw her son, she snapped out of it and the others seemed too as well. Oh and the scene of Kotaro saving a random puppy was pretty awesome. In 14...: Ha, we've failed countless times t defeat Kamen Rider Black, but I'm sure our strongest mutant, Mammoth Mutant will defeat him with his freezing breath! Oh...he was defeated within five minutes by Kamen Rider Black. Well...we'll just have to inject it with Taurin extract from Tuna, but we'll have to steal tuna from the local fisheries to do so! I like how the Gorgom scientist always goes to this villainous "horned" hairstyle whenever he is doing some mad scientist thing. There's really no need for it! Kotaro must be pretty smart in the science department, seeing as he found out the Crab Mutant's weakness last time and this episode, he immediately figures out what the Gorgom are trying to do to power up their mutants. I was NOT expecting Kotaro's sisters to sing a rendition of the ending song. And I know, only one of them's his stepsister and the other is Nobuhiko's girlfriend, but they're basically both his sisters. I'm glad they haven't forgotten that Nobuhiko's missing for another ten episodes though. And 15.. Okay this plot is actually the most disturbing one the Gorgom has come up with yet: Children can be incredibly cruel to insects and animals, so let's teach them to pass on that cruelty to other human beings with the GORGOM MUTANT CURRICULUM. We will spread this form school to school with the help of our Turtle Mutant, therefore making the future of humanity the perfect soldiers for Gorgom! Mwahaha! But yeah, that's actually pretty messed up. They teach kids to bully others by making kids who don't obey their rules to walk on a balance beam, carrying buckets filled with water over what appears to be ACID while the kids who are mind controlled toss soccer balls at them. WHAT. Also, I was incredibly confused when Kotaro saw the image of the kid in the soccer ball. At first I thought he was somehow trapped IN the soccer ball, which still would not be the most bizarre thing to happen in this show. Turtle Mutant, like most of the mutants, has an awesome design. He's a pretty creepy one though. The Gorgom implied they have more though. In fact they had three Bat Mutants. I guess that's so they can have past mutants return in a later episode? Not that it'll matter since Kotaro will probably still Rider Kick them into oblivion, haha |

Hibiki 02. That fast cutting gag isn't as funny as it thinks it is.
http://i.imgur.com/EhWwziX.png DOCTOR?! http://i.imgur.com/2mHbQRi.png Thank you. Although thanks to the combination of Hibiki's style choices and TVNs utter disregard for quality encodes or sources mean I can barely see what is happening, the Hibiki powers are really cool and Hibiki himself seems pretty awesome also. The way it can be cut, and bleeds, the way the helmet opens up like a monsters jaw to unleash purple flames. Even the garish, unusual colour scheme appeals to me as it's presented on a suit which finds the perfect balance between simplistic and busy and is made from materials that just have a much nicer look and texture than most Rider materials. The druming until they blow up thing is kinda weird though, but in a mostly good way. |
Wait, Locke's watching Hibiki? Awww yeah. Gonna enjoy this. Hibiki really, excuse the pun, resonated with me. And I've grown to appreciate it more over time since I finished it. It's a shame issues with production had an impact on the latter half of the season, but I don't feel it completely ruined the show. I'd have loved to see where it was originally meant to go, but I still feel some of the season's strongest moments came later on.
Found where I left off on Faiz, episode 7. Gonna do a quick bit of recapping the previous episodes (I just really don't want to start over hahaha) and continue. And trying to make sure I recall the main cast so far.. Yuka-Faiz, I recall him being a bit of a ninny about hot things. Doesn't have a dream, or at least won't admit to one right now. Is annoyed at those that do (everyone). Mira-Chick that hangs out with Faiz and the Keitaro, wants to be a hairdresser Keitaro-He's the one that was e-dating the girl that became an orphenoc, probably our secondary rider, he wants to help everyone. Yuji-Horse orphenoc, is still having trouble embracing it. Yuka-Swan(?) orphenoc, girl that had a bad home life, was e-dating the Keitaro Kaido-Our third main orphenoc Smart Brain Girl (think it's Sister?)-Dat hottie that's working with the new orphenocs |
I know I said I wasn't going to do episode by episode recaps anymore, for the time being, but just watched episodes 7 and 8 of Faiz and I wanted to quickly comment as I felt they warranted mention.
I felt they were actually rather beautiful episodes, it helped to develop Kaido as a character quite nicely, I really liked seeing Yuka grow a bit and take on this sorta "defender of dreams" aspect, and the fight scenes juxtaposed with the guitar playing was really well shot and having that guitar play during the fighting was just..well, beautiful. And I have to say, at least at this point, the orphenocs are some of the best villains we've had in the franchise, at least out of what I've seen. They're getting some great characterization and development and..honestly I kinda feel for them. |
Are Fourze and Wizard worth my time to watch? Finishing up Faiz and then moving onto Blade, dunno where to go after that though...
|
Fourze's first half is some of the best Rider stuff in the franchise, the second half...not so much. But Meteor gets you through that section, at least until he goes super saiyan and starts fighting with a BeyBlade....
Wizard is my favourite Rider show. So yeah, watch it and screw the hat0rz. |

Wizard I am a bit conflicted in. Overall I enjoyed it and it was the series that got me into the franchise back when it first started airing, but it definitely isn't without some real flaws. That said, I certainly don't hate it, hell I even would say I like it for the most part. But of the seasons I've watched it probably would rank the lowest. |
I just started Fourze and I like it A LOT so far. That's...all I've got really.

Super-1 Episode 39: Interesting seeing Commander Onibi's abilities like turning into a Fireball to travel, he will definitely be a challenge for Super-1 when that fight happens. A lighter monster which was poorly built but I see why because the scientist was forced to help Jin Dogma. The battle music was different and awesome in this episode, as well as Super-1 jumping on the motorcycle henshin, and 3 Step kick finisher too. I liked that the Scientist's son became an American JRS member. Kazuya is totally insane outrunning Commander Onibi's car on foot, though I'm pretty sure him being a cyborg if the car hit him, he would have crushed the car. I am finally in the 40's of it now. After this it will be KR Movie time then I will go in order afterwards of ZX, Black, and Black RX.

The biggest problem with both shows, though, is pacing. These are the series where the two-episode arc format was really getting worn out and both shows suffer for it. Fourze pretty much just stops for most of the 20s and 30s, and by the time the story actually gets going again everything has to be rushed to hit the conclusion (it also really hurts the show that the main villain is boring and has no obvious purpose until the last four episodes). Wizard has the opposite problem: the show has a tight plot and a villain with a clear plan and purpose that ties everything together, but it's stretched out over way too many episodes, most of which are just generic and forgettable victim-of-the-fortnight plots. The show also really suffers for basing its main plot around a character that barely got any screentime because the actress couldn't fully commit to the show. In spite of the downsides, though, I think both shows can be fun and entertaining and are definitely worth checking out. Just keep in mind that you're not going to get something with a really engaging and well-developed plot. |

Don't know about Fourze. W and OOO are good choices. OOO doesn't have that many two parters and has a great story that holds up throughout the show. |
Quote:
Wizard meanders at a snail's pace with an awful supporting cast and one of the worst leads we've had in the franchise. It's final 10 or so episodes are nice, but it's not worth the 40 episodes of bullshit to get there. |
Quote:
Wizard is not a bad show, most of the main cast is great, but the last 7 episodes render the entire show pointless. Haruto is a great main hero, very Showa-like, but some of his supporting cast are pretty much wallpaper and there is no payoff at the end of it. Also, Beast does very little in the second half of the show. |
So when should I watch Project G4 (I'm currently on episode 33)?
