How have I not posted here yet?
Anyways, I got way too many Toku memories to list: -Getting my first Figuarts. Man, where were these toys all my life? -Watching the awesomeness that is Akibaranger, which is still the only Sentai I've watched all the way through (I'll finish Gokaiger one day) -Getting Monster Arts, aka the toyline that has fulfilled my dream of having poseable Kaiju. -And finally, joining this awesome website. You guys are awesome and I look forward to hanging out with you guys for another year, a year in which I'll watch more Toku. :p |
My favorite toku-moment of this past year was definitely the Gokaiger VS. GAvan movie. The all pink change was a great moment and I dunno I just loved the way that particular movie made me feel about myself. lol. It was all very epic and exciting to watch. It really felt like a big budget movie and not just some extension of the show.

I guess my favorite moment of the year would have to be watching Gentaro's Death, that pulled at my heartstrings like no other. alternately, all of Akibaranger.

Now for Den-O and coturos... |
Id have to say my Favorite Toku moments were mostly associated with Gobusters. Maybe its my long standing love of Brave, and especially GaoGaiGar skewing my opinions on this, but i felt that the episodes containing Messiah's 2 destructions, ESPECIALLY the second one, gave me the goosebumps in a really good way. Maybe it was the great theme song, maybe it was the awesome special effects and animation that had come a long way since toku first started, or maybe it was the actors and the serious and tragic storytelling we are getting with Gobusters. Because of those 2 episodes alone, i will very much miss the series when it stops airing.
As a side note, honorable mentions go to the Dumbelroid and the Eraserroid for being the best and funnest metaroids to watch. When i think of Sentai, i think of silly monster villains that are really cool concepts and how much they need to be in some of these episodes to break up the serious tone. I giggled for hours durring and after Eraserroids excursions into the Gobuster base(im the type that rewatches good episodes) |
I'm not sure if I've brought this up or not, but one thing that did stand out to me this year was a fan sub group. We normally take what we can get in way on subs, especially the older shows that are infrequently released. That's why Grown Ups in Spandex should get a lot of credit this year. Because of them, we have full subs of two of the best known 90's Sentai, Jetman and Zyuranger. Plus they are solid subtitles written in plain English and not to loose with the translations. On top of that, they have 3 to 4 other opened Sentai projects going at a steady pace.
While not a moment, GUIS was one of the biggest highlights of this year for me. Quote:

My favorite toku moment was when Akiba Red henshined in the 'real world'. I still watch that scene from time to time just to be reminded of what the combination of bodacious and awesome looks like.
