I thought that movie was garbage lol.
|
From what I remember of your conversations in this thread (granted, I haven't read this thread in a month or two), except for when you started watching W, we have very different tastes when it comes to movies and TV. Or at least, I'm much easier to please.
So, I'm not really surprised that you didn't enjoy something that I really did. :) |
Decided to watch the first three episodes of Kabuto on a whim. They were entertaining so far. The concept of Worms is pretty creepy. Also, this is the only series I've seen with outright aliens it seems. From a meteor and everything. But I've only gone through the first three episodes, so who knows their true origin?
Tendou...this guy. This a weird personality choice for a main character! I'm not sure who's idea it was to make a MAIN character who brags about how good he is at everything and then constantly be proven right, but it's...an interesting one. I don't hate him so far, mostly because his attitude is hilarious, but it does get a little grating at times. It sorta feels like Kagami should be the main character. The story follows him enough and he's the one with the tragic backstory while Tendou has a personality that seems reserved for secondary Riders. Still, it's interesting. Also, if all the worms can clock up, do they ever...y'know...just try to attack Tendou while he's transforming? Or before he gets the vector? Not that it matters int he end, The super speed fights are pretty cool and a pretty interesting twist on the fight scenes. And Tendou's roundhouse Rider Kick is probably the most unique I've seen. I gotta get used to it though. |
I found out that some fansub group called MrStone is subbing Black Rx and they have the first 40 episodes out, so I downloaded them and watched the first five today. The show isn't all that much better subbed than raw, but a few things make more sense now. Of course, I really just do not understand the purpose of Rideron when Kotaro has Acrobatter. Also, they never state what happened to Road Sector. However, the biggest thing that bothers me is how Kotaro's personality is completely the opposite to that of his in Black. It is like he is an entirely different person as the goof ball prankster and idiotic bits just do not fit him. Not to mention he is suddenly able to build a super advanced car from basic materials.

You pretty much listed the majority of the issues I have with that series. It's almost like they were planning for a new Rider series and shoehorned the idea of it being a continuation of Black simply based on popularity. Any ties to the previous series feel really tacked on and not natural, and important questions are never answered. Like where the hell is Katsumi and Kyoko? Are they still in California? Even if they couldn't get the actresses back, at least mention them. As for Rideron, I can see the point of it since it does do things Acobatter can't, but I want to know how the hell he got the thing to work. More specifically, how the hell did he get it into that cave under the ocean? I'm pretty sure Whale Mutant didn't install some car elevator. *sigh* I had to stop after that episode, I couldn't take it anymore. I love RX's designs, I like in theory the idea of continuing on Kotaro's story, but I hate the execution of it. I reject their canon and substituent my own. |
You can feel free to substitute your own canon. Even Decade said that, despite looking alike, Black and Black RX aren't the same person, despite, you know...Being the same person.
So not even Toei knows what to do with them :p |
I plan to watch Black RX and I want the renewal figure, but can I just say that RX has one of the weirdest designs ever for a helmet? I swear it looks like the helmet has buck teeth :lol

I don't think the mouth is a bad design, I just find it utterly hilarious that it has the appearance of buck teeth. |

Oddly enough that's the part I like most. Looks like a grasshopper. I always assumed the RX suit was trying to look more like the Manga version of Black and the original concepts for the show. http://i57.tinypic.com/2psprw3.jpg http://i60.tinypic.com/14aeygx.jpg Although they at least had the sense to make the neck in sections so it could bend, if albeit very little. |

I'm glad to see someone else giving the show a chance, though. I'm stalled at the early 20s right now, but I've been enjoying the show a lot more than I expected to. It's not Black, but it's still pretty damn good. |

Don't forget that some random stranger decided off screen to allow Kotaro to live with them. I'm not sure who the bigger idiot is, Kotaro for accepting or the father for inviting. Another problem is the forced comedy, like we had with the detective (a story that goes no where). Quote:

Super 1 Episode 45: This episode was brilliant. First I loved that they had a contest and made a monster from the drawings sent in, I think that would be fun to do again. The story line with the monster's human form being sent in to befriend Kazuya was actually brilliant, and some really amazing fights this episode. I have to mention this too, the great and actual use of Radar Hands! The least used of the 5 hands, and it actually finished the monster instead of a Rider kick this episode. I wish the subs didn't cut out for a good part of it near the beginning but great episode still. Next is the beginning of the end, the battle with Commander Onibi and Princess Yokai next.

Agito 1. I was surprised by the rapid pacing, I expected it to be kinda slow. It's also kind of ridiculous that the monster would still be nearby by the time the G Trailer arrived and G3 got suited up. I'm also surprised that Agito doesn't henshin on-screen in this episode.

It more or less feels like a horror mystery, though it's a bit quaint by today's standards. Of course that can do with translations as well. Quote:
I don't necessarily mind so much the car, it certainly sticks out but I sort of appreciate that he's the only Rider to ever use one. I do however mind that Battle Hopper's resurrection and rebirth felt rushed. After a surprisingly well done sacrifice for an object, it felt like it should have been more meaningful to be reunited. |
Gaim 32 and 33. Loving Kiwami Arms so far.

On a whim..
Kamen Rider Stronger 01 So that happened. I love these classic Showa Riders, so full of wonderful 70's special effects and script writing. Most of which make absolutely no sense at all. And I say that with all the love in the world for batcrazy 70's television magic. I love Jo so far. Such a smartass, so perfect. And then we come to Yuriko. She's strong, she can handle herself, and yet still somehow ends up in situations where Jo/Stronger needs to come and rescue her. Because 70's :lol And Black Satan! Oh my god those costume designs. Though seeing their troopers? I know where they got the idea for the costumes for Warstar's footsoldiers came from. And oh my God that Metal Aardvark Oh My God. His secret power is a little head on a spring. He shoots you with a little shrunken head on a spring. And then, when Stronger finds out about this, he doesn't even disconnect it. He just sort of karate chops near it and somehow that breaks it. Just like a kick to the shoulder was apparently his weakness cause boom. And I still loved every confusing wonderful moment of this episode. |
Super-1 Episode 46: Wow Princess Yokai and Commander Onibi should have fought from the beginning they both were extremely deadly, and caused severe problems for both Kazuya/Super-1 and the JRS damaging all of them. However Super-1 is so awesome that he beat 2 of the generals and the Jin Fighters blind! His eyes got damaged as Super-1 but the Water and Sunlight fixed it and he beat them both in one kick. Super-1 was so impressive this episode it was unbelievably awesome. Next up Super-1 vs Professor/Doctor Ghost. I really like that Dr. Ghost was pissed off his friends died, and that early in the episode that Marshal Demon was pissed off at them, and actually attacked them.
Super-1 Episode 47 (Penultimate Episode!): My god if all the generals teamed up in the beginning to fight Super-1, they would have destroyed him. Honestly Gold Ghost/Dr. Ghost's Golden Rain plan was horribly destructive like Onibi's and Yokai's was. Great to see it tie back into the beginning of Super-1 with the Space program he was a part of, and that Harumi and Choro finally learned he was Super-1. Great fighting in this too, Upgraded Electro Hands, that he used to save people's lives from the Golden Disease. Also he used the most overkilling Rider kick attack I have ever seen, He Rider Kicked Dr. Ghost 6 Times in one continuous attack. I can't wait for the last episode. Super-1 Episode 48 (Final Episode!): WOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I waited 47 freakin' episodes for this moment! I own the Super-1 Figuart and he comes with a sword, and I'm like that's cool I wonder when he gets it, well after 47 episodes it finally appears! So better late then never. Anyways this was a brilliant finale, one of my favorite ones of all Kamen Rider. Super-1 looking like he was defeated then coming back to take the sword from Staff Officer Witch and basically impaled her with it was awesome. Totally so much sword action in this episode that was totally super badass. Also Kazuya was being totally destructive in this episode because he literally crushed in two of the Jin Dogma Fighters' heads in with his Power Hands, I'm glad they were robots or that would have been gruesome. He kicked some major ass with his Power Hands in this episode knocking the Fighters out left and right with ease. The Final Showdown between Marshal Devil/Demon (I'm not sure which one it actually is.) was absolutely fantastic, especially the ending, and all the sword fighting. Also learning that Jin Dogma was from Outer Space was a huge shock, I didn't see that one coming but totally makes sense, why they would want to stop the space program, hopefully with better subs this would make these scenes even better. The ending was good Kazuya finally gets to make it to outer space and well I know he returns because he's in the ZX special. I loved the parts with Choro, Tani, and Harumi all trying to help Super-1 and I loved the part of having Harumi have feelings for Kazuya because I always felt they had something even if they didn't really go into it, until it mattered. Anyways those last 3 episodes were some of the best of Super-1. Kamen Rider Super-1 Review: This has now replaced X has my favorite Showa Era series, I've learned so much from Super-1 even with the bad subtitles I still got the message. Kazuya Oki/Super-1 is one of the best Riders ever. He always tries to help, protect, and save people as much as he can, even if some of them were turned by Jin Dogma. This show even helped me become better as a person honestly. I don't know how long I've been watching it but these last few months have been an experience with Super-1. Honestly the only problems I have with it are the bad subtitles, and some outdated effects but it was the 80's. This definitely felt like one of the precursors of Modern Riders because of his Five hands, and each one having a special ability and switching from each one. I loved how he would train, and meditate to get past a threat he couldn't handle in the beginning or later how the JRS helped him take down Jin Dogma. Honestly from Terror Macro to Marshal Devil, and his four generals this is a great series. I'll have to say the Action is one of the biggest highlights, because each episode was brilliant in that. The Villains were absolutely fantastic, the storyline was really great especially towards the end, and connecting back to the beginning. Honestly if you can stomach HK Subs, or whenever someone else decides to Sub Super-1, the second it finished everyone needs to watch this series, It is definitely a must watch for Kamen Rider fans. |
Im half way through with Wizard and I have to say even though there are peeps who don't like it, I love this series.

Kamen Rider Stronger 02
I think Jo is quickly becoming my favorite Rider ever. Black Satan goons infiltrating a lighthouse and he just shows up between them all "Omg Hi!" Cracked me up good :lol Also loved the the line "I'll understand if I understand". Yes you will, Jo, yes you will. And that was only topped by him being interupted by the lighthouse manager, surprising him, and damn near molesting him before leaving him with only a "Well, you don't seem like a cyborg." I did enjoy the MotW, Omakin, better this episode than the Metal Aardvark of last episode. A Cyborg Wolf is all kinds of yes. But the problem is he has the power to turn into gas.. and he only uses it once, and not when he's fighting Stronger. The budget for fights must've been nothing because each one is over in less than a minute and a half. I said it before too. Tackle seems to only exist to get saved by Jo. She transforms, gets punched in the stomach, and needs Stronger to come save her pretty butt. I'm hoping, beyond hope, she becomes useful here soon. |

Agito Ep. 2. I'm surprised so much is still unknown, I'm used to a Rider's origins being the main focus of the first few episodes. Still, it gives the show a very mysterious feel. Also, is this in continuity with Kuuga? They keep comparing Agito to a "Number Four" and call the monsters "Unidentified Lifeforms".

Agito is like that as a whole. It's pretty much a mystery show which is quite interesting and one of the reasons the show works so well. It's based solely around the story and characters, all of which are tied into the mystery of what exactly happened with the Akatsuki. The more you watch the more you'll know. It's one of if not the best Rider show I've ever seen, and it's definitely, definitely worth a full watch through. |

My guess is that Toei was considering on bringing Kuuga back but the actor probably refused for whatever stick got up his butt. |

Hibiki 09.
The action is getting a lot better, or maybe my eyes are adjusting to the quality of these rips, but the monster designs are legitimately awful. Even if this was a showa rider I'd laugh at those pathetic suits. It barely looks like they're even trying to differentiate the suits and costumes any more, so it's basically the same monster over and over with a different CGI abomination to wrap it up. Still the biggest problem for me is Asumu, I know people have gone on about the 'coming of age' story that Hibiki is "truly about" but there is no attempt to weave the a and b plots together as one cohesive unit. So while Hibiki is driving the main plot AND providing all the thrills, we have to cut away just as we're getting invested to Asumu over sleeping or getting hit in the face with a handbag. It's as frustrating as it is plain boring. Even when we cut away to Ibiki who is like the backup of the backup, he brings more than Asumu does. |

I watched episodes 6-8 of Rx today in between E3 press conferences and they were pretty awful. The first one had these three demon monsters that are just down right stupid looking. Of course, the entire episode was stupid. Then there was an episode where Kotaro is for some reason a wanted criminal but it is never explained why or how he is cleared of the charges.
