If you think that's impressive, watch Jetman sometime. It aired a year before Zyuranger and the mech suits look really bland and boxy compared to Daizyujin.

Oh yeah. I may not like Kyoryuger, but at least it's standing it's ground with it's story lines.
With Gokaiger, all I can imagine is a vapid airhead saying "You guys, I'm so totally a pirate!"
Gokaiger was so by the books that the only time things got interesting was when Basco was around, and he's just a side villain.

Nah, Gokaiger is the best Sentai to start with because it shows you all of the teams and you can then decide which ones you are most interested in checking out from them on Gokaiger. My friends are now highly interested in seeing CarRanger if Haro ever finishes it due to the Car episode.

Gokaiger is the worst place to start in my opinion as it's a hollow, poorly realised nostalgia wank and if you have no investment in the franchise like I did, nothing in the show will mean anything to you.

Also, it wasn't a criticism so much, MMPR Megazord stuff is about as good as mech stuff gets in the show but the suit ain't great. I'd happily take it over the stacking.

You are one of the few because every one of my friends that has not been into Sentai got interested in other series through Gokaiger.

If someone didn't know anything about the franchise of course it wouldn't mean anything to them. Why would it? They don't get any of the references or jokes at all. If you've seen 7 or 8 sentai at least then I'd say that show is more relatable, but it's a great show none the less. Very fun and very over the top, just the way I like 'em! :lol

The Zyuranger mecha were a massive upgrade from the way sentai robos used to be designed and built. Way more went into their production than even the previous season, jetman. But don't let that detract from Jetman. Jet Icarus, Garuda, and Tetra Boy were pretty damn awesome even if they were the classic boxy style.

Exactly, which is why I don't understand why everyone acts like Gokaiger is the best place to start. If anything Gokaiger should be one of the last sentai you try.

Exactly. Zyuranger always gets mentioned for the innovation of adding a sixth team member, but I think a lot of people overlook the huge innovations made in mech suit design on that series. The mech combat was a big step up, too, especially when compared to the two shows that followed it, both of which mostly just had the big mech stand there and do its finishing attack (Dairanger wasn't that bad about this, but in Kakuranger it's terrible).

Yeah, I absolutely love the design of the individual mecha in MMPR and the detail in the combination sequence, even the Megazord itself for all its stumpy arms and boxy design at least doesn't have thousands of bits of unnecessary crap on it flapping about and highlighting the inherent cheapness. Perhaps my favourite thing is that something attaches to the torso in the combination and doesn't leave it look obese.

The Tank aspect is great as well, completely pointless, but it manages to mix up the combat in a way that doesn't make it feel like it's going through the motions in quite the same way as basically...almost every other show.
