Well, without Smogon there really wouldn't be the kind of excellent competitive scene that exists now and the games wouldn't be half as fun. People whine about their tier lists as if they somehow detract from the game, but they're well researched and exist for a reason and they make the game a lot more playable. Without them, there'd be absolutely no variety ever and anyone who didn't use a certain 6-10 Pokemon would just be continually stomped, making the game a hell of a lot less fun.

But I agree the forum isn't a very friendly place.

People in the competitive scene use more than the same 6-10 Pokemon?

I know. Have you ever seen Flygon or Kingdra in competing play? It's always Salamence or Garchomp.

And why never Hippowdon? The thing is infinitely better than Tyrannitar! Or what about all the other Rotoms?

Because Tyranitar gets a 50% Special Defense boost thanks to Sandstorm. (Sandstorm weather gives rock types a 50%boost) Thanks to that, Tyranitar can be set up as a Special wall while also being a Stealth Rocker.

This is why Underused and Neverused exists.

Pokemon is badly balanced. You're never going to see a wide variety of Pokemon ever unless you go into Underused and Neverused tournaments because the absolute fact is that 98% of Pokemon can't compete with that other 2% ever. At least Overused cuts out a percentage of the insanely overpowered Pokemon and adds some variety, but some Pokemon are just simply more viable then others.

Anyway I'd say there's about 25 common Pokemon is overused.

Flygon and Kingdra simply can't compete with most OU Pokemon, hence why they're never, ever seen online. Again, this is why Smogon sorts them into tiers and has specific ruled matches, to allow Pokemon like Flygon and Kingdra to be usable.

Because they're not as good. Rotom-W is by far the best of the Rotoms and Hippowdon is simply not as good as Tyranitar at all!

Its a website that sorts Pokemon into tiers which allows players to use Pokemon that are not able to compete with other Pokemon ever in matches where they aren't simply insta-lose.

Uber- Only legal in Uber matches
Overused- Legal in Uber and Overused matches
Underused- Legal in Uber, Overused and Underused matches
Rarely used- Legal in Uber, Overused, Underused and Rarely used matches.
Never used- Legal in Uber, Oveused, Underused, Rarely used and Never used matches
PU tier- Legal in all matches. The worst of the worst

Additionally, the ability "Moody" and 1-Hit KO moves and Swagger are banned in every tier plus Double Team, Minimize and more than 1 Baton Passer per team are only legal in Uber.

Outsiders are M-Lucario, M-Gengar, M-Mawile and M-Kangaskhan who are Uber, but their base forms are allowed in lower tiers. Blaziken and Aegislash have the distinction of being the only non-Legendary, non-Mega "Uber" Pokemon.

They playtest and discuss where Pokemon can fit in and where they're too unfairly powerful to be included, by judging things such as how many Pokemon can logically counter them or if they effect the game in a negative way. They also focus on de-centralizing the game by eliminating the Pokemon that are so powerful that every team must have a specific counter for them or simply lose the match.

A lot of whiners don't like it because... Honestly, not many people actually have a good reason to not like them. Usually because they get butthurt when Pokemon they like such as Blaziken and M-Kangaskhan are deemed too powerful to be allowed to fight against Pokemon that they have an unfair advantage over due to stats, attacks and abilities or for whatever reason they ignore the existence of "Uber" matches and say it limits the game. I've also seen people not like them because they get bitter because a Pokemon in a higher tier they don't like is objectively more viable then a Pokemon in a lower tier that they do like.

Wow... This is why I don't even go that in deep with the whole competitive side of Pokemon. I mean yea doing all that jazz as well as EV, IV, Breeding, Gender, and Nature training can be fun and actually gives you a drive to do more than just "Max out my pokemon at 100!!", but yea I don't think I would ever play competitive at all I mean playing among friends and you guys is a bit different I have done EV, IV, Nature, and all that jazz but not to the super hardcore extent where I would rage over because I didn't get a perfect IV set. I just currently know the basics of everything such as breeding, EV, IV, Nature, etc and I think that's enough for me, but from what little I've seen you guys do is like a whole other language to me. :lol

Unless my pokemon has Docile nature then yea gotta breed some more.
