I really need to work on Agito again...Mainly because I never bothered because I didn't have much interest in Kuuga.

OOO Wonderful: I didn't watch this movie before when I was watching OOO, so I decided to watch all the movies of the past shows I've watched that I didn't watch. This was one of my all time favorite Kamen Rider movies. It was really amazing, I just love Eiji, and the supporting cast so much because of how amazing they are. I love Burakawani form, that's freaking cool. My favorite scene was how all the Gatakiribi forms turned into all of the Combo forms was brilliant, I always thought he could do that. Also Eiji as Birth was great especially when he said Hina-Chan, Nice like Date normally would lol. I miss OOO lol, I might watch it again soon. I just love how Eiji beat out Gara by having his desire be overpowering, and just the message of the movie too. The name of this movie is perfect because OOO is Wonderful.

OOO Wonderful is like the only Rider film I have ever enjoyed.

Hibiki 10.
Seeing the two Riders fight side by side was surprisingly underwhelming. If anything it only highlighted how impractical Hibiki's powers are. Luckily though, they are both wonderful characters, and like all the best Riders pull their weight just as much out of the suit, as they do in it. They just feel like two actors who really love doing what they're doing. Their high energy is in stark contrast to Asumu though, who just pulls a tantrum every episode and adds nothing else. He didn't even get a story this week, he just cried while watching football games. He's such a miserable person I can't possibly imagine why he'd have any friends, I'd certainly hate to be around someone like that. So it's annoying I have to follow him in this show... |
Kamen Rider Stronger 03
Can someone explain to me exactly why going through a Haunted House prepares you to become a Junior Ranger Black Satan goon? Is it because Stronger makes them all shit-scared and they need to be prepared for that? Because that's what I think. And even in the era of Lawn Darts I doubt any parent would let their children go alone into a Haunted House ran by that poster-child for Molesters Anonymous in the black suit. But I laugh at the 70's and digress. Have to love the name of the monster this week to. Black Satan's Cyborg Scorpion Monster. And his secret weapon? An extending claw, because all Scorpions have telescopic extending claws. Ask a scientist! And then we come to how this week's MotW wants to kill Tackle. By tying her to the roller coaster train tracks Dick Dastardly style (Ask your parents, kids) and having the car mow down her and the little girl with her. And not at the bottom of the first hill, nonono. At the bottom of the very last hill. Otherwise he and Jo wouldn't have time for their witty banter! And I need Jo's witty banter. The only thing better, the only thing, is Black Satan Goons deciding to go after Stronger in... Are you ready? Paddleboats! Because nothing in this world is as threatening as black suited bug-eyed goons in paddleboats. Ask anyone. But no, it gets better still! Because Stronger, instead of using his electric powers to shock the water and blow them all up at once, leaps from boat to boat throwing them in the water one at a time. And now we come to Tackle. Oh Tackle. I love you so. You appear, get kidnapped, break free, only to get curbstomped again once the real villain appears. But you looks great doing it. But is there one time she Henshin's and her mask isn't crooked? I know it sounds like I'm down on this show, but I'm loving it. I've never both loved a Kamen Rider and laughed so hard at it at the same time. I love me some classic 70's cheese. I do. |

I guess I'm the only one that found the OOO movie to be subpar and drag on.

Yeah, it didn't do very much for me either.

Movies I skipped Part 2: Kiva: King of Hell's Castle: I loved this movie too, and it showed me everything that I loved about Kiva again. Why did Kamen Rider Rey have to be evil? and had to be Destroyed? That was one of my all time favorite suits it was so badass and awesome. All I know is that I am ready to kick Kamen Rider Arc's ass in Battride War II after this movie. I loved seeing Wataru and Otoya together, they are absolutely great I wish they would have had more screen time together. I love the Bat/Dragon form of Kiva it's so pretty, and badass I wish it was used more. Also great to see the 4 Ixa users all fighting in this movie, that was great for Yuri, and Megumi. Loved Nago's fight and Otoya without the helmet on too. Seeing Jiro, Ramon, and Riki fight too was totally awesome with Kiva. I think this movie is great watching sometime after Kiva because I have no idea how it fits in with Kiva but still a great movie.

I liked OOO Wonderful. It was fun, which, considering the Rider movie line up, is a difficult task to achieve.

I need a series to watch. What do people recommend?
So far I've finished Ryuki, 555, OOO, Fourze, Wizard, and am up-to-date with Gaim. Edit: My bad, should have looked at past posts first. XW1n5t0nX's and Kyoryu Green's posts have convinced me to start watching Agito. |

Agito 3-6. Wow, lots of stuff happened. Creepy baby made by ancient science, Mana seems to have some sort of ability, G3 finally doing something useful in a fight, Gills being awesome. I kind of want a Gills SHF now. And of course the overall plot thickens. The only thing I don't like about this show so far is the abundance of off-screen henshins and blinding lights as a substitute for CGI during the few on-screen henshins.

Interesting that people are watching Agito and Hibiki right now, they're the only two KR shows I haven't started at all.
After a two week break from Faiz, I decided to pick up Decade again, and it's been surprising enjoyable. After a brief refresher of the Den-O and Kabuto World stories I resumed with the Hibiki World arc, which interested me because I knew nothing about Hibiki, except that I didn't think I was particularly interested. And it was pretty good. I was excited to see Jirou from Kiva plays a character, and I've been told these are the actual Hibiki actors, so I'm sort of interested in watching Hibiki eventually. Am I also to understand that these Decade episodes are in continuity with Hibiki the show? It rather felt like it was supposed to be a coda to the show, since they were the proper actors, and by what happens. In which case, Asumu wasn't too bad, but I'm guessing you'll have to get through the entire show and then watch the Decade episodes before he does anything interesting. After that followed the Nega World arc, which was, by far, the best story so far. It was surprisingly dark, and featured a bunch of Dark Riders, which except for Dark Kiva, were all from shows I haven't finished yet, and therefor hadn't been exposed to them (Ryuga, Dark Kabuto, Orga). Oh, and Decade Complete is still a stupid design, but it was a rather neat henshin sequence. Since Decade has now visited all nine Rider worlds, and now the Nega world, and I'm only just over half-way through, I have no idea where the show is going from here. But I've enjoyed it enough, even if certain things aren't to my liking (like Onodera Kuuga being a complete waste of a character, and apparently Kivala doesn't pay off in the series, I have to wait for the Begins Night movie?) I still think Decade and Diend's suits are probably the worst of all the Heisei era Rider designs, but they've also got a certain charm/appeal to them, and I've been feeling driven to complete my Decade collection, I recently picked up the original Decade SHF and Diend (already had Machine Decader and VE Decade), so I just need to get a hold of Decade Complete and Diend Complete (anybody selling?). |

I'm not terribly consistent in watching thru stuff (that's why in the last 3-4 years I've started 12 of the 14 Heisei shows, but only finished half of them). :/ Quote:

*Raises Hand* I enjoyed the OOO All Rider movie with Den-O.

Isn't it my job to just play devil's advocate a lot of the time and side with both parties? :lol

I'm watching Hibiki 01. Despite the random cursive Kanji showing up on the screen, I found the episode really enjoyable and the ending left me curious to see episode 02.
Hibiki in particular was a very enjoyable character. |
OOO wonderful was OOOkay

I'd argue that Hibiki 11 is one of the worst toku episodes I've ever watched not so much for all out awfulness just for all out forgettableness. I literally got to the end, realised I'd written no notes and tried to think back over the episode for stuff to talk about and I've got nothing. The pace of this show is legit garbage. I'm amazed I'm over ten episodes in as the show hasn't even started yet.
|
One of the problems with Hibiki is that neither its writer nor producer had any sort of end game in mind, so they were taking things one step at a time. At this point in the show, and essentially for most of the first half, it's going to be about Asumu taking slow steps to becoming a more assertive person. It's clearly not a show written with any sort of end point in mind, it's quite literally a chapter from an ongoing battle. A lot of the major stories have an in media res vibe to them because of that "ongoing battle" aspect of the show.
A huge complaint people have always had towards the series is that nothing really happens. I personally love the show, but that's because the positives in the show outweigh the negatives for me. I can totally understand the "nothing happens" mindset because of what the story is actually trying to do. |
I completely agree. I'm watching Hibiki myself at the moment, and I'm surprised just how much I'm enjoying it despite the lack of... Well. Actual STORY going on. The sense of "ongoing battle" like you mentioned is what leaves me asking little questions as the story progresses. You're looking at it all from a similar perspective to Asumu, thus they try and make his character most relatable. I tend to actually like the juxtaposition of his everyday boring life spliced in to scenes of Hibiki and the gang blowing up giant lobsters with the power of music as if it were an everyday routine.
I think it's the suit designs that keep me invested. As far as I'm concerned they all look amazing. |
For me, Hibiki is its style over substance. THe first 29 episodes have some really incredible cinematography and are great at the use of sound and music that it makes the show great. Well that and the Summer Makamou episodes are just down right amazing. Sadly, that all goes away when the new writers took over.
|
Right now, Hibiki and Ibuki are the only reasons I'm still going. The complete lack of anything happening, and the lack of any attempt made to make Asumu's portions feel like anything other than filler can make it a painful experience, especially with a TVN translation, encode doublewammy shit sandwich laid over the top.
|
Well I'm around 19-20 of Hibiki and well it is definitely sort of boring through Asumu's perspective but the Oni is what keeps me in the show itself. Even though I was excited for Ibiki only to be disappointed by him.
29 and 30 of Kabuto were boring. The whole changing scenery when fighting with Tendou is just, stupid and Hyper Kabuto looks cool but hopefully he'll actually do and become Tendous. When I came into the series I was like this is great! Then in the 30's it became boring, hopefully it picks up again. |
Continuing my movie watch with Kabuto: God Speed Love Director's Cut: A bit of a slow start in the beginning but as it progressed I really, really, loved this movie a lot. Because even though it was an alternate reality it actually connected to the regular universe. I loved Oda/Hercus he was really awesome, I hated how he went out though, I hate when awesome Movie Riders die. The other two movie riders were okay, the Bronze one was interesting, and the Gold one I just loved how he was defeated. It was difficult seeing my favorites die in this movie like Drake and TheBee (Even though I didn't really love Yaguruma till he became Kick Hopper but still love the character.) and even Hiyori was extremely sad to see too. I enjoyed Kagami and Hiyori being a couple and trying to get married that was really lovely to see. Also I loved the emotions from Tendou he was brilliant in this movie. I loved the end with Kagami and Tendou racing up to the space station that was awesome. Though I might be the only one who enjoyed this movie, I still think it's really great. Leaves me with one movie left right now and then I will continue with my next series.

After the utter boredom of the last Hibiki episode, I was amazed that episode 12 was probably the strongest we've had. It had relatively no filler at all - yes, the stuff with Asumu could actually be watched and enjoyed, not sighed and skipped over! - lots of interesting world building and mythos exploring in that usual unique and fresh feeling way that Hibiki does stuff and action that is continuously getting better.
