I actually feel the contrary. Gokaiger and Decade were horrible at the same thing. A Google image search could show you any team you want while not fanwanking all over them AND not shoving them aside to make a group of the six most uninteresting characters try to look cool.

Showing off the suits and designs do nothing when the characters in the suits aren't acting a thing like the characters.

It's a rare moment when this happens, but I one hundred percent agree with this bro.

Thinking about it, it wasn't even much fanwank. It tried so hard to make the Gokaigers look cool that most guest characters were lucky if they even got an entire page's worth of dialogue, altogether.

I still think suggesting a series that has it's own story to tell is better than giving the copout anniversary series as a suggestion.

Gokaiger is a good series. But towards mid-season to the end of the series every mech battle just became powerspam. I realize they have to sell toys but I don't remember any other Sentai Mech spamming random powers like that thing did.

I think the best Sentai to start with is stuff like DekaRanger, GekiRanger or Shinkenger. Not necessarily because they are the best sentai has to offer (not that I'm a person to judge that on) but the Power Rangers equivalents were so similar, it's really fun to see what culture makes it work better and what doesn't.

Shinkenger for example, pacing issues aside, is SO Japanese that the fact they didn't really localise it...like at all...for Samurai is the reason I just don't think the show worked.

Other shows, like say DekaRanger, aren't so easy to place as I think the core concepts translated very well to SPD and although SPD isn't my favourite season, seeing all the new stuff they made for that and how they made the show their own without really deviating from the core stories that much at all is fascinating.

i will probably wait to watch Gokaiger and watch 7-9 shows before watching it.

Deka is a pretty good starting point for Sentai, too.

That is a pretty interesting way for a Power Ranger fan to get into Sentai, though. By watching the Sentai whose PR equivalent kept similar concepts (While Geki and JF have a tenuous connection, the underlying theme of martial arts is still present).

No, just no. Comparing Gokaiger to something like Decade is just a no. Gokaiger was good. Decade is the worst thing to happen to Kamen Rider since the 90s movie trilogy.

And if you don't want to start with Gokaiger, go with DaiRanger or KakuRanger.

I'd say do one of the easiest things around and watch the Sentai which was turned into your favorite season of Power Rangers. Loved Dino Thunder? Watch Abaranger. Get turned on by Timeforce? Watch Timeranger. The point being, just go off and watch the Sentai which made your favorite PR season. This way it's a bit of an easier transition. Plus if you can't find a version of that series with subs, if you've seen that PR season enough, you should have a fairly decent knowledge of what all is going on (best examples I can give are Timeforce/Timeranger, Wild Force/Gaoranger, and Samurai/Shinkenger).

Watched GaoRanger episode 6 last night, the GaoBlack/Wedding focus episode and enjoyed it. He's a fun character alright. I'm enjoying this and hopefully I won't forget it for a Kamen Rider this time lol.
