I'm watching more of Gobusters. The monster of the day being a Pizza cutter is both laughable and scary.

It was an Anniversary Series that had tribute episodes that celebrated 35 years of Sentai, but it was also a super fun show with a great and solid set of characters outside of cameos and, regardless of Matrixbeast's Gokaiger bashing, the storyline, while not incredibly involved due to the nature of the season, was fun in itself even in the episodes that weren't tributes and every character got a good amount of focus and the show succeeded in being great entertainment and having characters that were interesting enough to care about. The tribute episodes themselves also didn't just sit there wanking up the nostalgia, but always focused more on the main characters growing as heroes. Megaforce's first episode was hollow, poorly realised nostalgia wank. Gokaiger was not. I started with Gokaiger and loved it. I was blown away comparing it to the 19 seasons of Power Rangers I'd seen and its what got me into Sentai in the first place. Even my brother, who doesn't watch either Sentai or Power Rangers unless we're watching it in the room he's in sat down and watched every episode of Gokaiger and loved it and has even re watched the series. I think Gokaiger, due to just how fun the series and characters are, is a pretty good place to start. Gives you an idea of the differences between PR and Sentai without being a gigantic swap. I can understand a PR fan being shocked if they started with Jetman, for example. Quote:

Because the core team were only there to be a gateway to nostalgiawanking, so the characters had no time to be formed, realised or become anything close to compelling. I think I lasted maybe five episodes before I realised I didn't like a single thing about it. But it wasn't made for me, it was made for sentai fans, which is why it shouldn't be the place you start at. Maybe I'd like it if I'd seen more sentai but I'm more of a Power Rangers fan than a Sentai one, so I've not really seen much sentai even still.

So wait. Have you even seen the whole show then?

The opening few episodes of every series introduce the world, characters, concepts etc and those are the ones designed to grab you and if they haven't by that point then you may as well move on. There are some examples where I've stuck with it and been pleasantly surprised, most often I'm not and as I'm not a big sentai fan anyway I saw no reason to stick with Gokaiger. |
Now I do agree with Locke that if you aren't enjoying a show that is 50 episodes, you shouldn't force yourself to watch it.
HOWEVER, how many episodes did you watch Locke? Because I always try to give a show at least its first 10-15 episodes (because the first episodes are more to just establish the universe they are in just like in every anime). Now in the case of Gokaiger, the characters do not have the indepth development of those in Jetman, DaiRanger, and GekiRanger, but they are developed and we do learn quite a bit about who they were before they met Marvelous (who also gets development, especially in the Gavan movie), so to say there were only there for fan wanking is completely untrue. They all have their own personalities and backstories, especially Joe and Ahim. Not to mention GokaiSilver is awesome in his annoyingness. |
So after putting it off for months now, I finally watched the Gokaiger/Go-Busters movie. Didn't like it much. For something that should have been a fond send-off to the Gokaigers, they were barely in the damn thing. Instead it was pretty much just a really long and unfocused episode of Go-Busters with some token cameos. :thumbdown
Still, it wasn't as bad as the Magiranger/Dekaranger one. |

Watched the first 2 Go-Busters episodes, and I liked them very much, the story is interesting and seems to be gearing towards "darker and edgier" territory. I have high expectations for this series |
I actually thought the Gokai/Go-Bust movie was one of the better ones in recent times. It was on par with the Go-On vs Geki movie, which was the last enjoyable one (unless you count 199).
