So I managed to acquire a Japanese Charmander (don't ask how, I have my ways) and I'm trying my hand at breeding a shiny. Any tips apart from patience?

That is the only tip. Masuda Method + Shiny Charm + PATIENCE.

That said, I've never even successfully bred one. Just dozens of captured..

Ugh. Well on the bright side said charmander also had flare blitz and dragon breed on to her and has 5 perfect IVs so I got a hold of my first 6 IV pokemon

I've bred shinies.
Just never intentionally. The attempts at doing so yielded nothing but box after box after box of Feebases.
Because the game loves taunting me like that.

But yeah, even with the best possible odds for hatching a shiny, it's still pretty damn slim, so patience is a definite must :lol

I'm only ever tried to MM once... and got two shiny Tropius to show for it. Unfortunately, the one with Harvest was only 4IV, but its Defense was 29 or 30 so it was plenty good enough. The other was pentaperfect with one of the normal abilities, an ideal build should it turn out that a Mega happens sometime in the future. Took a week or two of intermittent breeding but I was happy. :) I also haven't rushed back into one since, but I imagine I will MM in X again one of these days, or in Alpha Sapphire if I can easily get a Shiny Charm there again and all the breeding mechanics remain the same.

So doing the battle mansion while listening to the game grumps does not mix well. Honestly surprised I haven't lost yet

You receive Gengar via mystery gift in the game, but you need the code in order to actually get it. Get Code > Go to Mystery Gift > Punch in code > Receive Gengar in mystery gift.

I think the drooling over Mega Evolution fad is over guys. It was cool when X and Y came out and these new ones look cool but the whole concept feels overused already.

That's because it went from a concept of revitalizing older Pokemon to just "Throw them in because...Because."

To me, if feels needless because for every Pokemon that needs it, like Houndoom or Altaria, there's a Pokemon like Tyranitar or Metagross getting a pointless buff.
And even in design, for every Mega Beedrill there's a M.Slowbro derping about.

And Pokemon Company, stop skirting it. Just give Pikachu the Mega Stone. You know you want to do it. We know you want to do it.

Nah, I'm still fine with it. Other than how ridiculous Mega Salamence's stats look to be, and maybe how much of a nuisance Mega Slowbro will be, the Megas we've gotten in ORAS are quite neat and almost more interesting than a lot of the ones in XY.

I wish Rock resisted Ground and was Immune to Water. That would make so many Pokemon better.

Or if Sudowudo had Storm Drain, Water Asorb or Sap Sipper. Something to fit with the whole "Looks like a Tree" thing.

Well, there's the whole rocks can't float thing. Also the whole rock resistant to ground thing also doesn't make sense. Rock is part of the ground/land/earth, plus if u drop a rock on the ground it'd break.

Not really. You put rocks around a campfire to stop it from spreading.

and Ghost, Dark and Bug makes sense that they're strong against psychic, and those 3 are fears, and Psychic is you know...the mind.

If rocks are heated enough they will melt.

But still, Rock should stand firm and survive the Surf while Ground is destroyed. And Rock and Ground should just resist eachother like how Normal and Ghost are mutually immune.

Tried out Mega Swampert on Pokémon Showdown. Once you set up rain dance, it's GG. Mega Salamence is strong with a dragon dance set up and return also.

I wasn't going to pick Mudkp for my Omega Ruby playthrough, but I totally changed my mind when I used him in the demo... The dude is awesome, plus awesome looking.

It's kind of the opposite. Heat death means that the energy in the universe becomes so spread out nothing has enough heat energy to react.

And now I'm done depressing people with science, I don't think Pokémon should have that much relation to real science. he types would just change too much, and it probably wouldn't make them very balanced.

Rocks and cliffs etc break off in earthquakes. Hence why rock is weak against ground.
