Look at me commenting so much when I haven't even watched a minute of it. :lol

As for the clay doll thing... meh, it was still better than the mess that is Faiz's ending. Quote:

Man, not even looking at spoilers...Eh, probably can't be worse than Digimon Adventure 02's ending.

Considering 02 ended by beating the bad guy with happy thoughts and then the resolution...Damn.

Eitherway, they are both awful endings. |

Don't listen to those who hate on Dai just because of its ending. Yes, I agree, the ending is a cop out, but I went through that two days ago about how Japanese writers cannot write an ending for ****. The problem with DaiRanger's ending is that it is open ended. I was really thrown off by it the first time I watched it, but the more I rewatched the show (twice subbed and 23 times raw) the more I saw how good the ending was. It isn't perfect, but it makes sense even if it does feel like a cop out. Mostly, it is Kaku's speech that makes the ending good. However, there are still so many great story arcs, interesting and new ideas and concepts, epic battles, incredible choreography, and amazing costume and set designs that make the show truly amazing to watch. As I have said, it is my favorite Sentai series, my favorite Toku series of all time, and the only Sentai show that comes close to even touching it is KakuRanger. Not everyone likes it though, but the great thing about Sentai is that no matter who you are, or what your tastes are, Sentai is so diverse that you are going to find a series that truly fits what you love and it will become your favorite show. Sometimes you might find that show in a short time, sometimes you might find it after you watch half of the shows. For me, DaiRanger was the third Sentai series I saw (Gao was the first followed by Hurricanger) and I watched 20 episodes in one sitting the first day I started watching it as I could not put it down. It became my favorite series from that moment on and I have not found anything to top it since. Now others have been ousted from my top 5 several times once I saw KakuRanger, CarRanger, and GekiRanger. Anyway, I think the thing about DaiRanger in why some love it, some hate it, is Toei was trying to do something different. From what I have read over the years, Zyu-Kaku were experiments to do something different with Sentai once the head writer retired after Fiveman. That is also why those three stand out to me as some of the best three years of Sentai ever (Zyu is in my top 10). In fact, I actually think everything from Jetman through TimeRanger are great. It wasn't until GaoRanger when things started to get a little too goofy and they started piling mecha on top of mecha just to increase toy sales. |

Also, episode 37 of Zyuranger. In which we get a recap of mech combinations because the script was running a little short. |

I guess I'm just bad at picking series, since my top 5 consists of Gekiranger.
Honestly, the reason why I'm picking series like Bouken and Go-On as opposed to Jet or Dai is based on my weariness of these much earlier series. I understand that not all the series are going to be as horribly boring as Sun Vulcan, but it's just a fear, I guess, which is why I'm sticking to series from 05 onward, right now... |
I hope someone subs Kakuranger soon. It has to make more sense than season 03 of MMPR, it just has to.

Which kinda sucks, considering it's only, you know, January :I As for making more sense, considering it's not being condensed into 10 episodes, I think we're good :lol |

Anyways, I finished Gokaiger yesterday. Fucking awesome show. Cannot wait for Gokaiger vs Gobusters, if only for more Jeaulishitto. :lol The only bad thing? Realizing after watching Gokaiger vs Gavan that no one has and probably will ever sub a full Gavan TV show. :( Probably gonna hit up either Go-Onger or Jetman next, after I've watched Garo and Kamen Rider Ryuki. |
Got to agree with Dr. Kain about 2 things.
1. Akira (Blue Mask) was a pretty good blue and Yukito (Abare Blue) was an iteresting character though he's the serious one of the Abare Trio. 2. Dairanger is a good series. Well I guess its a matter of preference, but for me I love Dairanger from beginning to the much maligned ending. I just enjoyed the show immensely and wasn't bored at all. To me the ending made sense and even the 50 years after made sense. |

I mean, Rito comes down, destroys the Thunderzords, the rangers come back at him with new powers. So what does Zedd do? Steal the pink power coin and Falconzord and use his grasp over it to get the rangers to pilot his new zords (and come on, I drool at the scene when Zedd enters the Command Center, as it is so awesome not to mention his battle against Tommy). The rangers outwit him, get the coin back and in comes Mastervile, who helps them nearly destroy the rangers again by turning them into children. The Alien Rangers come in and save the day, so Zedd responds by destroying the power coins and then the Command Center. |

Don't let Sun Vulcan color your opinion of the other early shows Matrixbeast. Its like universally recognized that Sun Vulcan is less interesting than watching grass grow.

Gekiranger episode 1. Very first thought: **** you TV-Nihon! Learn how to ****ing translate! I tried letting you have the benfit of the doubt, but regretted it within 5 mins. Hikari Senshi's subs aren't much better as they over translate (and calling Rio "Leo" is just wrong), but at least it's translated. I can hear Japanese, but I will never understand a sentence that's left half untranslated.
Translation (or lack there of) aside, I enjoyed it. It was a solid first episode. There's not much to say about it. Just wish I had better options on the subs. |

But the lack of translation for things like the Ringi transformation and the energy moves is kind of noticeable. |

I made it through 11 episodes of JakQ before I stopped, 1 episode of Sun Vulcan, 1 episode of Goggle 5, and 4 episodes of Dynaman (and I own all of Dynaman). It isn't because of all them are terrible really, but because they take forever to end. I feel like it takes 45 minutes to complete an episode (and I highly enjoy the original Kamen Rider series). http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-qt4UDxAW65...gv7yo1_400.jpg Quote:
As for the ending to DaiRanger, it might all be about timing of when I saw it. I did not hate open endings as much then as I do not because I had not seen 15 anime series that did it and many Toku series either at that time. I think I had only seen one that pulled a cop out ending, if that. It was not until after DaiRanger that I saw the endings to Big O, Evangelion, RahXephon, Gilgamesh, DekaRanger, and Wolf's Rain that I started to detest those type endings. And it isn't like DaiRanger's ending did not fit. You are talking about a war that has gone on for centuries. It wouldn't just stop there because Shadam was defeated. |
Episode 38 of Zyuranger; the epic dress-up battle between Lami and Mei. Man, this show is weird. I especially liked how they still tried to have a kid of the week arc with some character that was only in three short scenes. The second time she showed up (about 10-12 minutes after first appearing) you could practically hear her shouting "Wait, this episode was supposed to be about me!" :lol

Speaking of ZyuRanger, I just watched the first 10 episodes from GUIS. I forget how much I love this show until I always rewatch it. I also forget how bad the child acting is until I watch rewatch it. :D Yes, it's a double standard, but I'll still take Zyu over 90% of what has come out since GaoRanger.
As for watching it subbed, most of it has been pretty much the same as I got by watching it raw. It was nice to actually know what DoraSphinx's riddles are though, as I never understood what he was asking (although, a few of them still do not make sense, such as the Tug of War one) and some of them are actually very intelligent questions. I might have to ask some of them to my students if the occasion ever rises. :) However, I never caught that the monkey people were part of Daizyujin's garden. I understood they were cursed, but that portion was new to me and now it makes sense. |
Gekiranger 2 and 3. I don't dislike Jan, but he gets annoying fast. He acts like a 2 year old most of the time. I;ll give them credit for giving him the back story to explain these actions, but that doesn't make it any less annoying.
The weakest part of the show is the the same problem Jungle Fury had: that ****ing fly that won't shut the hell up during the awesome mecha battle. He's like the anti-Doggie. Instead of being one of the most awesome characters in both properties, he's one of the worst characters in both. Speaking of mecha battles, I'm aware I'm in the minority here, but I love Geki/JF's Megazord designs and battles. Yeah, yeah, yeah, the Megazord designs are overly simple, I don't care because the guy in the suit can MOVE. I am so sick of Megazords that move like bricks on rollerskates. GekiTouja needs more love. Nothing else to really comment on yet. I'm sutre I'll have more to say once I complete the vemom dudes' arc. I remember enjoying that in JF, so I'm sure it will be good here too. |
I grew to love Bae. Primarily because during the middle of the series the mech battles were tacked on to an episode that didn't really facilitate them.
As for GekiTouja, I have a new found love for him, too, for the same reasons. Just watching a mech do more than lumber forward and swing it's titan sword/fire it's plasma cannon is a breath of fresh air. It's like the Lightning Mode from Ninja Storm, but permanent. It's great (And the design has grown on me too. While I won't be buying the DX toy for it's painfully simple combination, I am looking for the Retrofire and intend on getting the SRC because it's design is lovely. Oh, and I think you'll enjoy the Deadly Venoms arc, I did. Granted, I loved the concept of the 5 Deadly Venoms before I even saw Geki :p |

I fully admit it's design isn't perfect, but I did grow to love it for what it is. However, I will argue about it's design being transferred to a toy. I think it looks lovely as a toy, and there was more than one occasion where I was tempted to buy the Jungle Pride figure. For me, the terribly simple combination is where I drew the line, but with the advent of the SRC and Retrofire figures, I have an alternative to better match the show. |
See, I really like the gekiranger mech. To me it's simple yet effective. What I don't like is the price the set fetches on eBay (or more what people think its worth) and how many spare animals I'll lying around thanks to the way BOA distributed it. Still, I'd love to own GekiRinTojah... So my search will continue.
