http://i1366.photobucket.com/albums/...ps77a1d2ae.jpg The new 15 disc set includes the ten movies, a TV version of II, the Producer's Cut of 6, the 2007 disc of the original, a 4 hour documentary disc on Zombie's remake, and a bonus disc with a ton of extra features on it, with new making of documentaries for 4 and 5, episodes from a show called Horror's Hallowed Grounds (featuring the locations for I, 4, 5, and 6), interviews, commercials, the original movie with the TV footage inserted into it, etc. Also, the Producer's Cut disc includes a ton of new bonus features as well including an interview with Danielle Harris on why she wasn't in it, some of the crew talking about Donald Pleasance, the original teaser trailer, an interview with Malek Akkad, and several other things. |
Oh I had no idea those were released and included. That sounds like a killer set though. Thanks for the info, man.

So I finally got to see Captain America: The Winter Soldier (About 19 billion years after everyone who wanted to see it watched it).
It was enjoyable. Kind of long, but it only felt dulled at specific points, and unlike the Iron Man sequels, Cap actually stayed in focus, instead of spending half the fucking movie in the background like Stark ended up doing. I wonder if Crossbones will actually show up as Crossbones, or if they decided that his costume was too silly... |
I think Winter Soldier is Marvel's The Dark Knight. It goes beyond the realms of just being a goofy comic book movie and also deals with social issues.

It even made characters like Falcon and Zola interesting (Something I was doubting was possible, especially with Zola's weird ass camera-head and TV design he rocked in the comics). So, yeah, it was quite enjoyable and I had some fun with it. I'm glad it dealt with Cap's issues with current times not through some kind of inability to use current technology, but through trust and just how people acted decades earlier vs today. Though, I guess if the movies are gonna play things a little more seriously, then I doubt Crossbones will appear in costume. |
Halloween 6 - Theatrical version - I kind of regret watching this version after doing the Producer's Cut as this is just so inferior. The lighting looks bad in some of the new scenes (especially when Jaime is in the barn), they completely dropped the Cult of Thorn plot halfway through the movie, Dr Wynn does not die on screen, the music sometimes sounds like it belongs in an extreme sports video, but worst of all, they cut out nearly every piece of character development for Loomis. Loomis is one of the main staples of this franchise and to cut him out so we can have more of a focus on the poorly acted Tommy and Kara is just ridiculous. Plus, things do not make sense. Why does Loomis no longer have a scar? Why is he in the hospital when Tommy is there? Why was the old lady holding a knife to the baby? Why did Michael just leave his mask on the floor? What was with the screaming sounds of Loomis at the end? None of if makes sense. I give this version of the movie a 3/10 stars.
Halloween H20 - After going into the realm of total ridiculousness, the series finally gets back on track by completely removing the last three movies from continuity. This is not only the smartest thing ever, but it also helps bring a new sense of smell to the franchise. Getting to see Laurie on screen again and learning what her life was like over the last twenty years is far more interesting than her dying off screen in a car accident. The movie itself is nicely done with some great moments of suspense, it keeps the death count down to a minimum, and harkens back to the night Michael originally attacked Laurie. The music is moody, but the movie's biggest faults are the lack of character development for anyone outside of Laurie and Michael's constant altering masks. Nevertheless, it is far better than the last several sequels and has a truly kick ass, conclusive ending. How do you come back from that? :-D I give this movie a 6.5/10 stars. It isn't as good as II or III, but it is better than the entire Cult of Thorn trilogy. It is just a shame that Pleasance passed on otherwise he would have been truly phenomenal in this one. |
Halloween Resurrection - Oh god, why, why, WHY?! What were they thinking when they made this piece of crap? Okay, to be fair, there are some great moments to the movie. Despite how much bull**** it was to retcon the ending to H20, the opening bit of the movie is pretty good. Also, there are a few good lines of dialog to be found and some of the deaths are cool. In concept, it had an interesting idea by taking advantage of the hype of reality TV at the time it was made. Unfortunately, the movie is just bad ideas mixed with lazy writing all around. Michael's knife can chop a person's head off but not slice someone's leg off? Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. The acting is bad, with some of the worst being from the blonde headed girl from Occulus (which explains a lot of why she was bad there) and most of all, Busta Rhymes. There are some moments I do think he had that were funny, but then I remember this is supposed to be a Halloween movie and not a parody one. In fact, they should have just went with making this a parody movie that featured Michael Myers in it, it would have been way better. Anyway, I've wasted enough text on this dump so I am going to give it a 2/10 stars. I am curious to watch it again with the commentary track though so I can learn what these people were thinking.

Day 13:
Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day (2014): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9arX_FkS5Rs No... The placement of this review in regard to the day number is unintentional. It just HAPPENED to fall on Day 13. So, as with any recent Disney movie, I will refrain from spoiling it. This movie was hilarious. Yes, in the end, it is really about spending time with family, but just watching all this s*** happen to these people is actually kind of hilarious. i'm a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad person. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zXDo4dL7SU *gets booed off stage* I give this movie 8 Kangaroos kicking Steve Carell out of 10. |
I wanna watch The Thing (1982). I love that movie, but I don't own it :cry
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8faq5amdK30 Guess I'll browse Netflix for something |
I'm seeing that on Wed at the Alamo Drafthouse. SPeaking of which, saw this today there:
Creature from the Black Lagoon 3D - This is absolutely one of my favorite Universal monster movies of all time and getting to see it in 3D was down right phenomenal. The opening bit when they first find the fossilized Gill Man arm was nothing short of stellar and the 3D as a whole puts most of the movies done today to shame. There were some moments where the screen did seem to get blurry during fast motions, but aside from that, it was wonderful. The movie is amazing. The Gill Man is amazing. And getting to meet the actress from it was awesome. Overall, I give this movie a nice big 9/10 stars. |
Legend of Drunken Master/Drunken Master 2 is crazy. I love it~

Day 14: Part 1:
Toy Story 2 (1999): http://basementrejects.com/wp-conten...ack-review.jpg In the sequel to the 1995 hit Toy Story, Woody (Tom Hanks) is kidnapped by a greedy son-of-a-b***h named Al. It is up to Buzz (Tim Allen) and the rest of the gang to rescue Woody before Andy returns home. Meanwhile, the plot of Star Wars plays out with another Buzz Lightyear..... LITERALLY. If I had a dollar for every Star Wars reference in this movie (including sound effects FROM Star Wars), I would be stinking rich. I give this movie 8 Star Wars ripoffs out of 10. PS: No, I do not hate this movie. I am just making a joke about how most of the movie was one big Star Wars reference..... Wait a second...... Toy Story 2 was made by Pixar..... Pixar is owned by Disney..... Disney bought Star Wars last year.... Oh. My. God..... |
Today was a nice cold and rainy Sunday, so we spent the time cranky through a few movies.
Friday the 13th - This movie is an oddity because it started a franchise out of what was supposed to be just one single stand alone movie with no sequels. The plot of the movie is simplistic but done in such a manner that it mimics the best of both Psycho and Halloween while also giving the killer a true motive. The downside is that the cast is pretty much there just to die, but they are at least enjoyable characters for what little they have when it comes to personality. One of the movie's best aspects is its first person view for the killer and that makes it really unique. Overall, I give this movie a 7/10 stars and it is easily one of the best in the franchise. The Thing from Another World - This is an interesting odd ball movie being based on the same story that John Carpenter would go on to re-adapt thirty years later. There is a nice build up to the finding of the UFO and the creature and while the dialog is written naturally thanks to people constantly talking over one another, the actors deliver their lines very seriously and wooden. There are lines that end up funny and I'm not sure if they were meant to be because the actors have such serious faces and responses. The other issue is that every just acts so nonchalantly about the whole thing. A dog is found dead, drained of its blood and those that find it just treat it as nothing at all. The story itself is fine for what it is, but there really isn't any sense of suspense in the last half because of how everyone just blows off everything that is going on. A little bit of paranoia could have been a major help in this movie. Overall, I give it a 6/10 stars as it was enjoyable for what it was, but it was nothing ground breaking or even the least bit terrifying. Rob Zombie's Halloween - This movie just does not get any better with each viewing. Yes, it is definitely better than Resurrection, but not by much. A lot of the movie just doesn't make sense even without thinking of it as a remake. The characters are just giant jerk monkey and seem to care more about making sex jokes and swearing more than having a real conversation. There is little to no character development at all. Loomis is a money grubbing douchebag. The theme music is played in parts of the movie where it does not make a lick of sense. There is a lot of unnecessary gore and violence. Did Michael really need to kill all of those people in the sanitarium? And the cops? Annnnnnnnnnnnnd Laurie's parents? Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd Judith's boyfriend? Did we really need to see those two guys rape a girl? Did we need to have Annie's pointless boyfriend there to die? Why did Michael take Laurie to his house? How did he get her there without anyone else noticing? Why would Lynda and her boyfriend go to the Myers house? Plus, the movie does not even have an ending, it just stops. ARGH!! This movie is just straight up a Rob Zombie movie and is as crappy as The Devil's Rejects. Overall, I give this garbage a 3/10. The best thing about it is that it does at least have a great looking Myers mask. Friday the 13th 2 - When I first watched this one in 2009 I was not all that impressed with it. This time around though, I liked it a lot more than the first time. It is actually a pretty good film with some nice creativity in the kills and it is nice that they did not just kill off the entire round of people in it. Nevertheless, the movie is far from its problems. The majority of the characters are there just to die, so they have very little development. The other issue is that the editing seems poorly done as shots seem to abruptly cut and what not. It is distracting and does take away from it. Overall, I will still give it a 7/10 because, while not as good as the first one, is still a decent entry. |
I've never seen Thing From Another World before. It's one of those movies that I've always wanted to see, but simultaneously feared to see because I know it would disappoint me. Kind of split on watching it, ever after reading your thoughts on it.

Guys! Guys! Space Ninja Char!
http://i.imgur.com/fsAL6GW.jpg Got your attention? Nice! Let's sit back and enjoy the abomination that is Captain Of Cosmos. Known in South Korea as Space Black Knight and in early releases in the US as Johnny Destiny: Space Ninja, what we got here is a bootleg movie brought to us by the delightfully zany Joseph Lai, best known for making ninja movies. This time he gave us a movie that clearly stole all the animation it could from Gundam and fused all 80s cliches into something that can barely be called a plot. I watched the version known as Captain of Cosmos so let's dive right in! In an alternate unvierse where the UC developed way differently and Char and Amuro are somehow the same person (aka "Captain Leo") a group of guardians known as "Cosmos Warriors" protect the unvierse from all kind of threats. The current villains are the "Green Empire" lead by their queen in a crusade to ensalve mankind and rebuild their ravaged planet, which is something that nobody bothers teling you about till halfways through the movie. Prepare for an adventure of incredibly unengaging space fights, terrible audio editing, incredibly stiff animation and deligthfully cheesy screams that make Bruce Lee's voice sound low pitched, drop all expectations as you are forced to endure a series of poorly connected and completely unineteresting sequences that go nowhere but are thankfully short enough to keep this monster under the 90 minute mark. This is bad, terrible, cringe inducing. And oh boy, it is so 80s it hurts. As far a s so bad it's good stuff, it woudl do very well if it weren't for the terrible audio, every single stupid scenen is prime rifftrax material, but the audio is so terrible, you have no diea what anybody is saying at any given time, I didn't even learn the name of the protagonist til the third act. So brave viewer, I hope you can survive the only movie where the main chaarcter is both Char and Amuro, and yet has neither of the traits that makes them likeable or interesting. Beware the terror of Captain Of Cosmos. http://i.imgur.com/KxT8zW3.gif?1 Totally check this out for more info: http://dlabaoaqu.blogspot.com/2014/0...smos-1984.html |
Friday the 13th 3 - This movie sucks. None of the characters have any sort of development and their acting is down right atrocious. It's like they just offered people they saw walking down the street a role in this movie because they didn't have the time or money to actually hire actors. The back story of Chris makes no sense because Jason does not have hair even though he had it just a day or two ago from the incident of 2 (even though he seems to have lost it again in the matter of 12 hours). Granted, it was nice that they wanted to do some type of back story, but the lack of any acting skills on the main character makes it hard to believe. The worst part is the staff seemed to prefer putting in as many 3D gimmicks as possible rather than write a good movie because the plot is just awful. Not only that, but the three bikers and the married couple at the beginning served no purpose other than for someone to say, "Yes, we now have a higher body count than before." Sure, Jason is a lot better in this movie than the last one, but still, for someone who had a machete sliced into his shoulder a few hours ago he seemed to have healed quite quickly. And now he gets an axe to the face that will not be present later. Overall, I give this movie a 4/10 stars.
RZ Halloween II - Well I'm not really sure where to begin, as this movie does some really great things, but at the same time, it does so much wrong. First off, I will say that the movie was not as bad as I initially thought it was last year. It does have an interesting premise of showing Laurie's life after Michael and how messed up she is from it. Unfortunately, this movie really should have been called Hoboween as Michael is just that, a hobo. I also do not like how they have him making grunt sounds whenever he kills someone or has him talk. Another issue is the timeline is all messed up. In the first one, it says 17 years have passed after Michael's mom killed herself but now it says 15. That just does not make sense. Nor doe this new kid even pull off young Michael. His mannerisms are completely different from the last kid and he does not even try to act messed up. He is just there. Nevertheless, the biggest problem with this movie is that it is just way too damn long. There was no reason for it to be 2 hours when 90 minutes would have just been fine. In fact, if they were to cut out every scene with Sheri Moon in it, along with the pointless kill run at the Red Rabbit (which for some reason I thought had Michael setting the place on fire), that would probably fix all of the movie's pacing issues. Other than that, this movie is still terrible, but it could be worse. As such, I'm going to give it a 2/10 because it is just slightly better than Resurrection, but Michael has been humanized way too much to give it anything higher. Friday the 13th 4 - Now this one is great. Yeah, a lot of the characters are still there just to die, but there is a great amount of development with some of them. Not to mention the Trish and Tommy are the best characters to be featured in the series thus far. The story is well told for what it is and I liked that they have a character who is looking to get revenge for his sister's death at the hands of Jason from one of the previous movies. Another thing I like is this is probably the bests version of Jason on screen as he is just oozing with awesomesauce. I love that he still has the bruise from the axe to the face (even though I wonder how a machete to the face can kill him when an axe couldn't) and he just looked like a threat to everyone. Another aspect I enjoyed is that not everyone was killed on camera, but I really love the creativity in showing the shadow of the one twin being killed instead of just showing her die. It feels like the filmakers went above and beyond what was expected when it came to the deaths. This is a solid entry in the series and if I recall correctly from the other movies, this is the best one in the franchise. I give it a 7.5/10. |
In honor of Elizabeth Peña/ Mirage
Day 15: The Incredibles (2004): http://imageserver.moviepilot.com/-2...58&height=1896 Wow. I need a moment.... Childhood overload..... OVERLOAD!!! Ok. Now that that's over, let's get on to the review. The Incredibles is a film about a superhero family. Bob Parr (a.k.a. Mr. Incredible) is tired of living in hiding (did I mention that being a Super Hero is illegal in this movie?). After losing is job at a corrupt insurance company, Bob goes off and accepts a job where he can finally be a hero again. He gets kidnapped by his ex-fan-turned-psychopath, his wife comes to save him, and...... Shit goes down in the city. THIS is how a superhero movie should be done! It's the PERFECT superhero movie! Let's just hope Big Hero 6 can live up to this masterpiece. I give this movie 10 Wannabe-Bohrok out of 10. |
The Thing - Getting to see this on the big screen was freaking amazing. I have nothing more to say about this movie that I haven't said in the past outside of that it features the two greatest F bombs in cinema history. Carpenter's best movie with a 9/10 stars.
Zombieland - I just flat out love this movie. It is hilarious, has good characters, and the music kicks ass. Not to mention the awesome cameo towards the end of the movie is just amazing. I always go back and forth between whether I like this more than Shaun of the Dead or vice versa, but either way, you cannot go wrong. Although, it is funny to see how many times Tallahassee could have had his Twinkies if he had actually looked more closely as there are bags of them sitting in the Hostess truck on the right side where they don't look and there is a box of them in the super market when he is beating the fat zombies up. I give this rollercoaster ride an 8/10 stars. |
And now, for a new series that I will try to make a weekly thing:
Fandom Night: Day 1: Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring (2001): http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV...14,317_AL_.jpg This is the first time that I have watched this, and I have to admit, it's pretty entertaining. The movie is based off the book Fellowship of the Ring, by JRR Tolkien. A young hobbit named Frodo is given a ring, which he finds out is the one ring of power. Magne..... I mean Gandalf tells Frodo that the ring must be destroyed. Then the rest of the movie is made up of Frodo and his companions traveling to Mordor, battling different creatures along the way. And..... credits. That's right, the movie (and I'm assuming the book) ends in a freaking cliffhanger. If there are any problems I would have with this, it would be the amount of jumpscares. There were so many jumpscares in here that I decided to give the movie a nickname: Fellowship of the Jumpscares. *gets booed offstage* I give this movie 8 Very Tall Midgets out of 10. Tune in next week for The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers |
Friday the 13th V - Wait, I thought Jason was gone for good, why is there another one? Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, it isn't Jason. Unfortunately, unlike Halloween III, this movie feels unfocused and rushed. The writers clearly had no idea what they wanted to do with it, as it seems like they plan was to have Tommy actually be the killer and then they chickened out in the end to make it some half assed reveal from a background character with a reasoning thought up in seconds. That is just lame and this movie is lame. ON the positive side, it does have some good deaths in it, but whatever. I give it a 4/10 stars. Also, the Not-Jason Jason Mask is terrible looking. Oh yeah, and please, I really hope we never have another character that went to the Crispin Glover School of Dance.
Friday the 13th 6 - Okay, so now we have begun with the start of Super Ultra Zombie Jason, and this one is a pretty solid entry. There is a little bit much on the comedy side, but it does work with the movie instead of taking away from it. That and I love the line, "I've seen enough horror movies to know that a man wearing a mask is not one to be messed with." For the most part, the characters are well done outside of the random couple (which from what is discussed in the extras, they were forced into the movie just to up the kill count), but at least they have a good death scene. The only annoying this is watching this movie right after the previous entry and having a different actor for Tommy. That and the way it starts makes it feel like the fifth movie does not even exist. Overall, I give this one a 6/10 stars. It isn't as good as the fourth movie or the original, but it is definitely one of the best. |
I can't imagine how much of a slog it is to go through all the Friday the 13th movies.

Anyway, Friday the 13th VII - This is such a weird movie. It has an interesting idea, what would it be like to see Jason take on a telekinetic, and yet, it does so little with it in terms of execution and plot. That just flat out ruins it as none of these characters are there to be anything more than canonfodder. Yes, that sounds weird, as most of the time, the characters are there to die, but at least the previous movies try to make you want to see one or two of them survive. Here, none of them are worth saving, even Tina as she is just a freaking idiot. It does have some great kill scenes though but I think even Jason was tired of it. I do love how much battle damage Jason was shown to have on both his mask and on his face, so that was nicely done. Nevertheless, I just don't give a crap about the characters, which is where this movie ultimately falls flat. Another thing that seems strange is how the name went back to Crystal Lake after being Forest Green for several years. Did they just decide to own up to it? And why would anyone want to still live there? Overall, I give it 4 points as a movie, but I'll give it one more point for its awesome music, so it gets a 5/10 stars. |
I decided to rewatch Oliver and Company for the first time in, like, 15 years.
I found it to still be pretty fun. It wasn't as good as I remembered, but nothing really is. But I'm rather glad the character I remembered the most from the movie-- http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb2.../Georgette.jpg --Georgette, was still just as great as I thought she was. I don't know why that, of all the characters, it was the poodle that my 9 year old mind held onto, but *Shrugs* She was awesome. The movie moved at such a fast pace that I now remember why I remember so few of the gang, but I was surprised how little I remembered of Oliver (Hell, I didn't even remember that the main antagonist had 2 dogs. I only remembered the one). There was so little to hold onto with this movie that I guess I gravitated towards the most memorable character (Which, surprisingly, wasn't Dodger, since he's the generic "Cool dude" that fucking every movie from the 80's-mid 90's had). The humans weren't that memorable, half the gang didn't do much (The literal only other character I could remember before my rewatch was Tito), the movie moves far too quickly for it's 70 minute run time, and despite the climax being fun, it didn't really fit in with the rest of the movie, seemingly coming out of nowhere. But, still, of all the flaws, it did have one thing. http://img1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb2.../Georgette.jpg Georgette~ Also, 2 of the songs, "Why Should I Worry" and "Perfect Isn't Easy" are pretty fun and enjoyable. So, yeah. If I were a critic, I'd probably give it a negative rating of 4 or 5 out of 10, but I'm biased and I'd tip the scales closer to a better score, mainly because of-- http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb2...mpany_0552.jpg Georgette~ <3 |
Friday the 13th VIII Jason Takes Manhattan - or better yet, Jason Takes a Boat to Manhattan that is Sometimes Vancouver. Seriously, this movie is a mess. It takes over an hour to even get to Manhattan. The chronology is messed up as there is no way this movie could be 30 years later when there was 15 years after Jason died to when his mother got killed, 5 years for the events of the second through the fourth movies, ten years for the sixth, fifteen years for the seventh, and now this. That makes it at least 40 years. Jason has suddenly developed the ability to teleport. On the positive side, I can at least say this movie proves he does not have ADD since he has hundreds of people he can kill at his whim but only sticks to going after the main characters. Of course, he doesn't help then Renney seems to have her character shields on at all times since there were multiple occasions when Jason could have just killed her back on the boat. Finally, that ending is just flat out stupid. Why is NYC flooding their sewers with toxic waste each night? Is that part of a new "Get Rid of the Alligators" initiative? And how does this waste make Jason turn into a boy? That makes no sense. Now the movie does have some great moments in it, especially when it came to the scenes in Manhattan. I love the scene when Jason first emerges from the bay and there is a hockey mask sign. Also the death scenes are awesome, especially the one with the boxer. It was a cool idea to bring Jason to a big city, as I love everything about that, but this movie takes too damn long to get there and spends too short of a time there. At least the pay off is good for the most part. Unfortunately, most of the characters are just flat out stupid to be likable, assholes, or their acting is just really really awful. Some of the worst in the entire series. Overall, I give this movie a 4/10 as it does at least make a good ending point for those who find the next set of movies to be pure crap.
Jason Goes to Hell - Just like its title, this movie can go straight to Hell. It absolutely sucks. There is absolutely no character development. Hell, the movie doesn't even really have an ending as we don't even really see the remaining characters once Jason is gone beyond them walking away in the background. The deaths are bland and dumb. There is nothing creative to be had. Suddenly Jason has a sister and only his bloodline can kill him for good? I think I have heard this plot before. Jason himself looks like a mess. They couldn't even get his mask right. Also, now it is suddenly only twenty years after the events of the original movie? WTF? Who wrote this thing? Did they not pay attention to anything before it? Oh, and for a house that has been left to rot for the last (at least 20) years, it sure is hell looks to be in such great shape. I won't even bother getting into the concept of Jason having the ability to transfer bodies now as that makes absolutely no sense. Add on top the pointless characters like Duke and you have one stupid dumb ass movie that was made by someone who had no idea how to even make a horror film. THe previous entries might not have been the greatest pieces of cinematic history, but at least they felt like an attempt was made to make them entertaining. Here, there is nothing except, "HEY, LOOK, IT IS A JASON MOVIE, GIVE YOUR MONEY!!" all around it. I give this piece of **** a very high dishonorable 1/10 stars. Not only that, but it is also one of the worst movies ever made. Lastly, you know that not even the movie studios care about this movie when every movie in the entire box set has bonus feature documentaries on it, even Jason X, EXCEPT this one. Jasonator X - How do you know you have no ideas for a long running horror series anymore? You bring the main killer into outer space, that is how. The only positives I can give this movie are for the cool death scenes and that it was at least better than the previous movie. Other than that, this movie sucks ass and gets 2/10 stars from me. Freddy vs Jason - Normally I do not think crossover movies work, but in this case, it does. In fact, I would say this is the best crossover movie to date. It is fun, it has a lot of great death scenes, and some really cool action scenes. Funny enough, this movie was my introduction to both the Freddy and Jason characters. It does have a lot of issues, such as it's hokey plot, the fact that they completely jacked up Jason's look (he is not supposed to have a left eye), and Jason is suddenly afraid of water. The fight scenes between the duo is down right awesome and brutal though. Robert Englund is definitely at his finest here, but I don't really get why they did not have Kane return as Jason. Sadly, the character development is what your are expected, but at least it is vastly superior to the development found in the last two Friday movies. Overall, I give it a 7/10 stars. |
If I recall, they got someone different to play Jason in Freddy Vs. Jason to have a larger contrast in size between the two.
Freddy Vs. Jason wasn't really a movie I enjoyed outside of the climax because it just felt too...Forced. I liked the concept of Freddy being forcefully forgotten and tricking Jason into being his puppet. It was a pretty nice start for a plot, but the main characters were just too...Ugh. The action is fun and creative, and Freddy is his typical over the top self, but Jason was suddenly a sympathetic puppy who becomes an anti-hero in the second/third act? Not a fan... |
Friday the 13th Remake - This was the first true Friday the 13th movie I ever saw and it was pretty good. Now that I have seen the others, I still think this is a good one, certainly better than some of the sequels to the original series, but it is heavily flawed. I do not really like this version of Jason as he seemed to be more Leatherface than Jason, taking hostages and overall, acting more human than anything else. THe guy who also played Jason sucked when it came to movement. On the other hand, there were some pretty cool death scenes, but most of the characters were unlikable, especially Trent, who makes the rich bitch from VII appear lovable. Overall, I'm going to drop this movie down from my original 7/10 from 2009 and move it to a 6/10. It isn't bad by any means, and it is certainly superior to the Halloween and Nightmare remakes, but it still is pretty subpar compared to the best of the series.
ANd thus brings an end to the entire Friday the 13th series. While it is not my favorite horror franchise, as a whole, the series is subpar, they are still quite enjoyable and there are some truly good movies within. |
Bonus:
My reaction to the trailer for..... Avengers: Age of Ultron I am speechless..... Age of Ultron may just be the BEST movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's just..... *internally screams and dies* https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tmeOjFno6Do |
Beaten to the punch at putting up the AoU trailer.
Oh well. Looks pretty cool. |
The Mummy (1959) - The Boris Karloff version of The Mummy is by far my favorite Mummy movie of all time. Growing up though, I enjoyed The Mummy's Hand as I liked the idea of Kharis even if the rest of it was lackluster. Thankfully, Hammer does a great job of doing the Kharis saga better in one single movie that Universal was able to across five movies. Christopher Lee is pretty awesome for having little to no dialog and Peter Cushing really rocks in this movie. It drags a bit in the middle, but it is a very enjoyable one and is also one I would rebuy on BD if WB were to ever release it. I give it a nice 7/10 stars.

Freddy vs. Jason holds a special place in my heart since I saw it in theaters when I was 12 without a Adult. The theater didn't give a shit and let me in. The movie was everything that I wish the first AVP movie was.

Watched the Iron Man and Captain America: Heroes United movie.
...Wow. I was intending on watching both movies in a little double feature this evening. Those plans certainly died. The designs, the animation, the plot, and a good chunk of the voicing was just...Ugh. It was a slog to get through IM&Cap, and I only did that because of Taskmaster. I don't think I'd be able to endure IM&Hulk at all... Also, god please, enough with Hydra. I am soooooooo sick of Hydra. |
There will be no Fandom Night tonight or next week, nor will there be a Disney review on this Sunday and the next. Reason for this is I have a musical next week and I need to prepare for it. And strike for the musical is the following Sunday.
