Ryuki is really good so far. You can see my commentary about it on my twitter. :lol
EDIT: You can see them by looking up this hashtag (or pound sign for us older folk)- #KamenRiderRyuki |
So earlier today I finished Kamen Rider Den-O. The show was very enjoyable and I'm glad I finished it. The show managed to keep the mystery a mystery not like Drive's "mysteries". So now if I'm not mistaken there are like 8 movies, but I've watched Ore Tangou! And the anime so I'll probably watch those in the summer.
So now the big question, which rider show should I see next? I've seen Ryuki, Kabuto, Den-O, Decade, W, Wizard and Gaim. |

I'm a board noob, so I thought this might be a good place to say hi.
Hi! I started out watching Kamen Rider with W, and loved it to death. I sucked my wife and daughters in, too, and we progressed through OOO and Fourze (which is still the kids' favorite). We just finished Gaim and have gotten about 12 episodes into Drive. I'm simultaneously trying to work my way through the older Heisei stuff; I really enjoyed Kuuga and Agito, but Ryuki and Faiz didn't do much for me, and I wound up abandoning them part way through. I suppose, then, that I'm about to start Blade. Anybody have any advice? Is it going to be a slog, or am I in for a treat there? |

Be aware that Blade starts out confusing. The first episode ends with Blade yelling at another Rider, Garren, asking him "WHY HAVE YOU BETRAYED US?" (Tachi and, the man behind the Garren helmet, was seen smiling as he stood in front of a bunch of hatching coccoons) as moths devour the headquarters of the organization who created Blade and Garren's Rider Systems. And in the next episode, most of that craziness gets tossed to the side and we meet the supporting cast, including an audience surrogate who people think is a total brat. |

Yeah Kuuga is a great and I am sure you will enjoy through Agito but be warned through Agito you will have to endure the douchebaggery of one of the biggest assholes of Kamen rider, Toru Hojo. |
To be honest, I do exactly the same deciding my shows at the moment :lol Once I finish off V3 I'll be hitting up Kuuga in time for the renewal.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B-TBtjfIQAAkjtN.png Also, the supporting cast already makes an appearance in episode one. Koutaro is actually one of the first characters on screen, Shiori appears in the board headquarters and Amane (which I assume you mean by audience surrogate) and her mum appear when Hajime is introduced. The only important character that isn't introduced is Mutsuki, who doesn't appear until Isaka creates the Leangle belt. Errr anyway, I wouldn't say Blade is that crazy and messy, though it is rather confusing when you watch the first few episodes for the first time. Basically because you get lots and lots of events that do not really make sense at that point, but you'll gradually understand them the more you watch because what happens is actually explained throughout the show. I highly recommend to watch the episodes without very long breaks because you might forget some important details otherwise. Admitted, when I watched the show for a second and third time, I even noticed some details I didn't or couldn't notice the first time. |

Shunpei was definitely goofy, but I felt like the toned him down over the course of the series to the point where it wasn't so bad.
Plus, Wizard felt generally lighthearted... until the end. |

Hello thread I have missed thou. lol
Hibiki Episode 21: Ah back to my favorite Slice of Life/Ass-Kicking Demons show after a long stint of GARO. I enjoyed that they are putting together that the Villains are getting stronger, and I am liking that they are getting stronger that they need more help to defeat the Makamou. Also interesting to put together that the Henchmen like people are all themed to the specific Makamou. Ibuki and Akira confronting the weird Dark guy was interesting, at least they have met him now. I enjoyed seeing Ibuki and Todoroki transforming together now only if they can kick ass together. I loved Asumu during his talk with Hibiki and he's just staring at the woman's boobs lol that's hilarious. I am intrigued with what's going on with the Old Woman they are visiting and what's wrong with her. Hibiki definitely moved fast to get a Doctor to her, that's some good use of that Oni speed. Interesting to see how Asumu is getting more interconnected with the Takeshi people with learning more and working at the place. I can't wait to see how they deal with both Makamou next episode. |

Hibiki Episode 22: This episode was fantastic. Great use of Teamwork between the three of them at the end. The fighting was absolutely fantastic here with Todoroki and Ibuki kicking the Douji's and Hime's butts, I mean sure they struggled but that just made the fight more intense especially with seeing them use some of their elemental attacks (Loved Ibuki basically doing Guile's flip kick from Street Fighter and Todoroki's thunder punch was cool.) and them losing their weapons just to fight to retrieve them for the finishing blows. Akira was very helpful getting Todoroki his guitar back even though she got hurt I feel bad for her but she knows the risks and I love her courage running to do it even being wounded. Asumu and Mocchi taking care of the Old Woman for Hibiki while he got the Doctor was great in the sense that Asumu was confident in knowing what to get her while she was in pain and took charge of the situation. Hibiki is just so much fun and insane with running to grab the Doctor, then running the Doctor all the way to the Hospital then back to the old woman's house is just crazy how much strength and endurance Hibiki has. Though I love the crazy altruism he has that he would go to such length to help save someone. The Teamwork at the end I loved that Hibiki came up with the idea to harmonize their attacks against the fused Makamou that was just awesome, like an awesome Kamen Rider Rock Band super attack. I also enjoyed the scene back at Tachibana's where Mocchi told Asumu that Hibiki's influence has changed him for the better just showing that he has grown a lot and it has been for the better. I really love the companionship between Hibiki, Ibuki, and Todoroki; the three of them like each other and not really rivals and work great together it's very different to see and I love it. I also feel that I can relate to all three of them the weirdness of Hibiki, the calmness of Ibuki, and the eagerness of Todoroki; as well as other characteristics of each one of them that I relate to as well. Well like always with me I can't wait for more.
Hibiki Episode 23: Ah so we got Ibuki and Todoroki now we Hibiki and Todoroki. They are very interesting together lol. I like that Hibiki is training Todoroki in the drums to try to teach him something else. I enjoyed Hinata and Todoroki's talk that was a lot of fun. Now I haven't mentioned them before but I honestly enjoy all the side characters in this show a lot, Hinata, Kasumi, Their Dad who is the boss they communicate with, Hitomi and anyone else I haven't mentioned; they bring a lot of fun and enjoyment to the show with how they interact with the characters. I feel a lot like Todoroki with not getting something like the drums and then letting the anxiety get to you and want to drown yourself lol. Hibiki was pretty awesome using his fire sword in the battle with the Douji and Hime, this Makamou looks interesting, can't wait to see how they battle it and Hibiki new form next episode. I felt bad for Asumu having to play the whistle in his brass band club, but I also liked the Club President's explanation to him and that you can tell that he felt bad that he has to keep Asumu with this whistle. I hope things work out better for Asumu later. I always seem to watch Kamen Rider when no one else is lol. Hibiki Episode 24: I enjoyed the parallels between Asumu and Todoroki in this episode and how the sisters both told them the exact same story about Hibiki learning to play both the Trumpet and the Guitar and that doing something you don't want to do actually can turn out to be a very helpful skill later on in life. I like when Kamen Rider does it's parallels because it makes the characters have a form of similarity to them because my friends and I have that too. I'll also take random Ibuki comes in and helps kick ass because why not? lol. I really enjoyed Todoroki and Hibiki's training a lot, and especially it leading to the three Riders having a Taiko Festival and drumming the Makamou Mud men to destruction was freaking sweet. Hinaka was a lot of fun, trying to hide that Akira called him to pretty much help his love life that he's kind of oblivious too which is a lot of fun because I was like that when I was young too being oblivious. Hibiki's Kurenai form is really awesome, it makes me wonder if the other Oni's can train and go into a higher form based on their elements theoretically it's possibly but probably not shown. Overall great character building and action episode; The character stories progressed which was good and that the summer monsters appeared earlier and we got the new form I can say the story progressed too. Overall; fun, awesome episode and I can't wait for more. Hibiki Episode 25: A fun episode of the characters training and hanging out together. Hibiki's training was fun and finding out why he fights Kappa's alone makes a lot of sense too because he didn't want people to hear him sound like a chipmunk lol. I liked going a bit into Ibuki's crush on Kasumi and going into Hitomi and Asumu and why they aren't dating, because they probably do have feelings for each other. Todoroki was a lot of fun from swimming the wrong direction and basically saying that Asumu might like someone else or something it was funny when Asumu's Mom and Hinaka stared at him more threatening than any Makamou he faced lol. The friend of Todoroki was interesting. Fun episode and cool to see another one of the Oni too. |
I just started watching kuuga and even though I have only watched one episode I like it.

Kamen Rider Super 1.
Alrighty, decided to give this a whirl since Stronger was kinda dragging a bit.(Boy the strained budget is a bit sad at times.) REALLY could have done without the photos of real starving people less than 3 minutes into the first episode. That was just fucking tasteless. Other than that, I mostly enjoyed the first episode. It does suffer from what a lot of Showa Rider series do, which is that they have a narrator explain things rather than showing us, and the dialogue at times feels forced in its exposition rather than natural. The villains are briefly introduce but I like what I see. Just good old nut jobs that want to do ethnic cleansing and believe it's a good thing. There's also something very funny about the villains being called the Dogma Kingdom. I will say there were a few moments that were too funny for the wrong reasons. I think they were trying too hard convince me it was totally taking place in the US (when they didn't need to), to the point of mild comedy, specifically a sign in the middle of a desert that was pointing to Idaho, Nevada and Oregon. I also do have to point out that the security is just damned hilarious. Despite being a scientific base, there is none. Come on, just put some masks and uniforms on a few of the extras, that's all you need. I can buy that a mole from the Dogma Kingdom could give security the slip, even in a full lock down, not so much that the scientists are the only ones to give chase because you don't have guards in a secret base. Or maybe that's some serious budget cuts. Is technically a Space program after all. Overall I think the the episode covered a lot of decent ground. We got our villains and basic motives, a glimpse at future supporting characters including a returning Genjirō, which took me by surprise. Not sure why he's doing motorcycles in this series. Maybe Masaru Todou was doing a well enough cafe? :p We also got the abilities of Super-1 told and displayed to us in a proper way;i.e: Professor Henry going over them with Kazuya during a test as opposed to a damn narrator. I also really like the idea of a Rider just not being able to transform at first on his own, it takes focus and training, or apparently being knocked unconscious by an explosion and sent flying through the air. On a related note, I absolutely love the humming sound from the henshin, very distinctive. Onto the next episode. Kazuya works on some of that focus, although I'm a bit lost on the time period. Is this a few months after the incidents in the previous episode, or just a few weeks? I imagine months given what is shown, or maybe I just missed it if it was mentioned, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't. So Kazuya trains in hope of discovering the key to his henshin. That's pretty much the episode right there. Okay to be fair there is a bit more to it, including a few small scenes with our supporting cast, mostly on the comic relief side of things, although not much in development for them. But this show is still laying ground work so I'm okay with that. We have our MOW from last time(FireKong) return to fight Kazuya, but he can't henshin which is of course problematic. The Dojo master that Kazuya studies under does some kung-fu mind bending tricks on him, and learns that the reason behind why he transformed without aid as seen at the end of the previous episode. Turns out he has to have peace of mind. With that knowledge and with the hottest member of the DK crew out for Kazuya's blood, the Master takes drastic measures to make sure Kazuya will be ready for the impending battle...by sending 100 martial artist at him. I'll admit, I knew this going in, which may play a part in me being slightly underwhelmed by it. I know there is no way in hell a Toku series, especially one in the 80s, would ever actually have 100 extras at once. That being said, it does feel very much like he's fighting waves of people in bursts,(Although this isn't bad, mind you) though the scene changes are little odd. I know why they did it, so they wouldn't have extras on the ground as knocked out opponents. But with him going around taking on waves of enemies, each time in a higher elevation, I can't help but think of the game Kung-Fu, only outside dojo. So after taking out 99 opponents he has to face the master, no surprise there. What I like here is that the Master doesn't lose to Kazuya. Actually the Master doesn't even break a sweat, he just flings Kazuya right off a damn cliff...I'm not entirely sure how exactly that's supposed to put him at peace. I can buy that the henshin was scared out of him, but that does go against the previously established idea. I don't know to blame the writing or the subs for this, maybe I'm supposed to interpret peace of mind as not being hot headed in battle, which even then still wouldn't explain the whole cliff thing. The rest plays out how you'd expect, MOW attacks the supporting cast, Super-1 beats his ass, explosion, etc. I really like the scene after FireKong is defeated, as an explanation for the Kamen Rider part of his name is given by having Scatm- I mean Genjirō Tani, say Kazuya is like the heroes before, which is fantastic, and a nice nod to SkyRider in particular. I didn't find much terribly wrong here, just questionable at time. The show is still bare but understandably so. The best way I can describe this particular episode is like a 70's Kung-fu film thrown into a blender with Toku, which I am totally okay with, I just hope there's more substance to be found later on. Stronger. On thank Sailor Cosmos, interesting things happen in this episode. What's there to say about this one? Well the plot this time is actually a kinda interesting slight change of pace. Rather than outright trying to kill Stronger, Black Satan just hopes to distract him long enough to get bigger plans done, which intertwines with the distraction itself. This is honestly really smart on the villains part. The method used to occupy Jo is a pretty common trope, which is have ordinary citizens go berserk and attack others/the hero, and of course the hero usually won't attack. I don't really mind this since it is a smart move and at the very least executed well. This episode also had a surprising body count, I mean the whole plan is poisoning the water supply with a toxen that makes people lose their minds and then keel over, but it's still kinda surprising. They even have the M.O.W. melt some guy right in front of a kid. Goddamn. They even capture Stronger at one point, which isn't that huge of a deal, but they get the people he's trying to protect to beat the hell out of him like some sort of drug fueled lynch mob. I'm kinda disappointed it only lasted about five seconds, I was actually really absorbed by the scene and it's a shame it didn't go on just a bit longer. Draw backs to the episode are...well, awkward as hell cuts, both in the literal film skip and "How the hell did they do that so fast?" sense. I don't just mean the usual let's jump from building to outside, I mean stuff like Stronger suddenly swinging on a rope via a way too obvious frame skip. Suddenly the M.O.W. somehow getting a hold of two hostages that must've been previously stashed somewhere. Kinda funny to imagine him running all the way and back while Shigy is beating up Bunny mooks. On a related note, I'm pretty sure the cause for this particular cut is because the camera was ran over by a bike: http://i61.tinypic.com/opvt3.png Oh, and they pull that annoying monster gets away (Somehow, they're not gonna show) thing a lot of Showa era stuff did for some reason. You know, attack the monster, it rolls around on the ground, camera zooms in on the Rider's helmet as they look away from the monster rolling, and then they comment on something/music plays before a commercial/scene jump, making look like they just ignored the monster and let it get away mid battle. Come on, it cannot be that hard to actually show or have some sort of audio cue that the monster has a means of escaping. Hell, the monsters can even turn into tiny little mind control spiders, play the sound for that. Stuff like this just makes characters look dumb (Because good is dumb) and the writing lazy. Despite a few draw backs, I think this was a fairly good episode. Things happen here that show Black Satan is a threat, their plan largely did work, for a good while anyway. They caused multiple deaths, caused some chaos, managed to kidnap Stronger and toy with him a bit. The highlights are certainly the villains being intimidating, and Stronger along with Tackle being resourceful to find a cure to the poison. Not to mention Tackle even saved Stronger, and together were able to ultimately prevent a much worse and larger scheme from taking place. |
