That's great that you think but please don't be rude to others because they have a different opinion on the subject. If someone feels they are learning or picking up the language that way (which I do as well) then they are. End of story. We all learn in different ways. Subs can be whatever you want them to be, that's why many different groups do it many different ways. They don't have to be anything but a preference. It doesn't matter what you hear but to some it does matter what we read and this isn't aimed at any one group or another either

I'm not being rude at all. I am stating a fact. You can not learn Japanese from watching fansubs. To learn a language you need to study it. Thinking you are learning from fansubs, when at times the fansub translator doesn't know Japanese fully him/herself, will just hinder you at really learning it.

We can like subs whatever way we want. You have your preferences, we have ours. Get over it, move on, and shut up. Trying to "correct" people for their preferences is about as rude as you can get.

An opinion can in no way be a fact, by the way. It is your opinion that you cannot learn that way.

As I have said about 4 times now, people can like what ever they want. I will not back down about the "learning a language from fansubs" thing though. IMO, it's insulting to those that take many years learning a language and those that teach the languages. It is not an opinion. It is fact. Ask translation professionals, language teachers, etc.

That's totally a valid point, and for people who are like that they have TV-Nihon or GUIS, I'm happy with what Over-Time is doing, so when I download, I prefer Over-Time :) Like ZeoRanger V said, I'm just happy that we have choices :D

I'm well aware you cannot fully learn a language in such a way. I know because I'm currently in a Chinese class, a language I could never learn in such a simple way. I have done a fair bit of studying of Japanese outside of subtitles and I have never taken a class. My understanding is extremely limited and will not get better without actual study. Chinese and Japanese have a lot in common. I guess it's similar to how one would pick up a language after living in a foreign country for a while.

Aside from that, I do completely understand your point. Although the different views on the matter is what resulted in the many many different fansub groups and their styles of subtitles. Yes, the way they SHOULD be subbed is how you describe, but not everyone is completely in the dark on Japanese now, even some people who've learned Japanese will still watch with subtitles because their understanding is not extensive. So the partially untranslated stuff works perfectly fine. This is one of those things that's best left alone. Watch what you like, and ignore the rest. I have the same outlook on the console wars. Everything now is personal preference. There is the way things SHOULD be done and then the way people LIKE it to be done. If no one liked it, groups like TVN wouldn't exist.
