I think it's because his shape seems a lot bulkier, they mentioned the new godzilla is based on a bear, you can see this mostly in the neck, godzilla's snout seems much less pronounced than on previous designs. Also with previous designs certain aspects of him are more shapely like you could see definition in the old G's calves. The new Godzilla is very much a solid block of mass.

Another example is in that airport scene, you look at his foot and it's just thick as fuuuck like a tree stump.

While the comments are stupid and offensive, they're not just out of blind hatred.
