Tomato Tomato. He was a whiney boy with an over-bearing annoyance with red hair. I love the new companion so much more. She's only be in two episodes, and I already love her more than the last two.

1 Ep2: The End of the World- 02/04/05
The Doctor takes Rose to the end of the world in the year 5,000,000/apple/26, where the great and good(rich) gather to watch it on Satellite 5. Plot Arriving on Platform 1, we meet a bunch of guests, and the Doctor flirts with a tree-thing. The last human (Cassandra) shows up and then some spider things hatch and blow up the systems. Rose almost gets burnt alive by the sun, and some robot's turn out to be the bad guys. Except for they're not-Cassandra is. Then she gets blown up! Overall, it's a strange 'mystery' plot that works okay-it focuses more on Rose's reaction on travelling, but it goes Ok. Not as good as Rose, but still Ok. 6/10 Characters This episode expands on both Rose's and Nine's characters-Rose through her planet's destruction and the Doctor through the flirt tree. His survivors guilt plays through, and it's revealed that he's the last of his kind. We also see his ruthless side at the end, showing he's changed from his earlier incarnations. Rose, on the other hand, gets crying and sad. Then goes for chips!(Because that solves everything!!) Cassandra, as a villain, works well-she does it for money, and has a proper motive. She is kind of an ass, but it works. 8/10 Scare Factor Nothing really scary in this episode. 1/10 Bad Wolf Watch: "This is the Bad Wolf scenario"-Moxx of Balhoon Overall A bit of a downside from the first episode, but still good. Better than the next episode anyway. The Doctor showing a dark side also works well though. 6/10 |
S1 Ep3: The Unquiet Dead- 09/04/05
In Rose's first journey into the past, we meet Charles Dickens and blue refugees/aliens! Plot Dead people get posessed by blue ghosts and one of them visits a Charles Dickens performance. The Doctor and Rose show up, and we meet some undertakers. Hmm, one of them looks like someone from Torchwood-I'm sure that'll never show up. Anyway, Dickens gets his faith restored in the world and the group kick the aliens back to wherever they came from with gas and a match. It's like Die Hard, but in 1869. Then we get to know Dickens dies in a year! Not depressing at all! Anyway, it's a lacklustre plot, with not much drive. I can sit through it, but I'd still rather watch Rose out of the first 3. 4/10 Characters Rose gets a bit of development, finding out she can die and being shaken up. The Doctor does some stuff, but not much. Charles Dickens is good, and he is played well by the actor. It's convincing and good. Gwenyth is good and her clairvoyancy is portrayed well, with her not just using it whenever she pleases. 6/10 Scare Factor The zombies are sorta scary, and they are kinda deadly. 7/10 Bad Wolf Watch: "...The Big Bad Wolf..." - Gwenyth Overall Mark Gatis's first episode is a dissapointment considering the first two. If your friend offers you a choice between this and Operation Overdrive, pick OO. Actually, it's not that bad. 5/10 |
Oh dear, I go away for a weekend and discussion on this thread opens back up.
Rory was an excellent character. While Amy regressed throughout her tenure, Rory was the one that actually grew as a character. He wasn't a selfish bitch like Amy, and actually fit the bill as a normal person thrown into weird situations rather than the Mary Sue characters Moffat writes female companions as. Not giving him a proper sendoff was a MASSIVE disservice. Quote:

S1 E4: Aliens of London- 16/04/05
Rose has been missing for a year and a spaceship crashes into Big Ben. Plot Rose arrives back on Earth, but, because of the Doctor's 'skills' at piloting the TARDIS, she arrives a year after she left. Everyone thinks she's dead, Mickey's been accused, and the Doctor gets inmterviewed by the police. Then, among all this interesting domestic drama, a spaceship crashes into the Thames via Big Ben. The Doctor investigates at the hospital the pilot was taken to, and finds an augmented earth pig, and someone we will never see again, along with some army people. Him and Rose get arrested and then some alien experts and the Doctor get electrocuted by green farting aliens. Meanwhile Rose and Harriet Jones (MP for Flydale North) find the dead PM, and then get attacked by a woman farty thing. END OF PART 1! The plot is pretty good, comparable to Rose in the domestic dispute. This is the first story that I know of that deals with the departure of a companion from their home (Tegan's aunt DIES and no-one cares!). The Slitheen have a wierd concept but they work okayish. 7/10 Characters This story really helps develop Jackie's personality, establishing her as a caring, worrying mother. Rose shows emotion, and the Doctor is the same as ever. 6/10 Scare Factor Couple of scary moments, with the electrocution being highest on the list. A very short list. 4/10 Bad Wolf Watch - Sprayed on the side of the TARDIS Overall The best episode since Rose. Not as punchy or hard hitting, but still a good watch. Especially as it introduces a recurring character for later in the series. |
My friend and associate Shawn has started a Doctor Who podcast as part of the the Two True Freaks! Podcast network entitled Who True Freaks. Two episodes out already, you can find them here:

S1 Ep4: World War Three- 24/04/05
With the world on the brink of WW3, the Doctor must find a way ot save the world before it's too late. Plot Following directly on from Aliens of London, Nine sticks the electric badge into the Slitheen giving him, Rose, Harriet Jones (Mp for Flydale North), Mickey and Jackie a chance to escape. Rose, Jackie and Harriet seal themselves in the cabinet room while Mickey and Jackien are reatacked. They figure out the species of the Slitheen (Raxicoricofallipatorian) and tell Mickey to throw vinegar on it. Which makes it EXPLODE!! The Doctor has Mickey hack the Navy and gets him to torpedo 10 Downing Street. The Slitheen are all killed while Nine, Rose and Harriet Jone (MP for Flydale North) hide in a doorframe. Harriet goes to become PM and lead Britain into a Golden Age, while Rose and Nine leave on another adventure. This episode has a fast-paced plot, with tension, action and explosions. The Slitheen have a good plan and would present a credible and believable threat if they didn't fart so much! 7/10 Characters This episode expands on the characters of Jackie and Mickey. Not much, but it does show Mickey taking more into his own hands rather than being turned into plastic. 6/10 Scare Factor Not many truly scary moments, this episode is probably safe to watch for even the biggest scaredy-cat. 3/10 Bad Wolf Watch- Being rubbed off of the side of the TARDIS Overall The best epsidoes of the series since Rose, these are a good watch if you have nothing else today. Especially if you have time to watch the next episodes! 7/10 |
DOCTOR Who bosses are lining up Matt Smith’s exit for Christmas — when he will regenerate into the 12th Time Lord.
Thoughts? For me, I don't mind Matt Smith leaving, I don't want his run to get stale. If he leaves, I hope Moffat leaves too, it would be great to see totally fresh talent again. |

If Matt Smith is leaving, I'll be sad. He's a good actor. Anyway, for the next review!:
S1 E6: Dalek- 30/04/05 Under the deserts of Utah, the Doctor encounters his oldest enemy (except for caveman) Plot The TARDIS is dragged of course by a distress signal, landing in an underground vault. They are captured by a businessman, Mr Van Statten, who sends the Doctor to look at his only live alien specimen, the Metaltron. I wonder what it is... a Dalek. Which terrorizes the Doctor out of his mind, until he realises that it can't shoot him, after which he rants about the Time War and tries to kill the Dalek. Rose and Adam (some British kid) go into the Dalek room, where Rose touches it, and it extrapolates her DNA and revives itself. It escapes and starts shooting people. Let me just note here: the Dalek going through the vault and killing people is freaking badass!! They try escaping up stairs, which doesn't work. The Daleks can go up stairs now!!! Adam escapes through a closing bulkhead while Rose is trapped. The Doctor watches through a CCTV as Rose is EXTERMINATED! Not really, the Dalek doesn't kill her, it decides to use her to bargain with the Doctor. It then starts developing emotions, and Rose stops the Doctor shooting it, so it can kill itself. Great work! Rose, the Doctor and Adam go off on an adventure while Van Statten gets his mind wiped! This is the best epsiode yet, with the return of the Daleks hitting hard. The Time War is expanded on, and we get a new companion! 9/10 Characters The Doctor shows some real emotion (shouty anger/sadness), Rose is shown to have a soft spot, and the Dalek's conflict is playes out really well upto it's eventual suicide. 6/10 Scare Factor The Dalek shooting up all the people is quite scare, and so is it's first appearance. They will eventually be nerfed, but in this we are shown the true power of a lone Dalek. 9/10 Bad Wolf Watch- Bad Wolf One is Van Statten's helicopter Overall The best one so far, and possibly the best in the wholo series, this is a must watch. You don't need to see any old episodes to understand it, and it makes an amazing watch! 9/10 |
Heck yeah, Dalek is the best episode since the relaunch :D
|
Yeah, Dalek was a real gem. It really showed the danger a single Dalek could pose.
No better Dalek episode in the new series except Daleks in Manhattan. I kid, I kid. |
Well, the rumors of Matt Smith's regeneration are apparently fake.
Matt Smith confirms starring in Doctor Who in 2014 If he gets a full series in 2014 that makes him the longest running Doctor in the New Series. |
I'm on my phone right now so can't post a link but I thought I'd drop in to say sources are reporting David Tennant and Billie Piper are confirmed for the 50th anniversary special!

So tonight's episode....
I have a massive crush on miss Coleman, just put that out there =p Pretty good return, think I'm missed something though... Couple of England specific lines where funny, the one about the London Riots was a bit brave (I still chuckled though) and the twitter comment. Also, the Return of the Fez! |
I really enjoyed 'The Bells of St. John'. I liked both both Amy and Rory as companions but I'm really looking forward to see how he acts around someone new. The plot of this episode was good and pretty creative but I wasn't paying enough attention to it and think I missed the part where they explained the villains motivation and a few other things.
|
I thought the episode was....adequate. It wasn't great, it wasn't awful and was pretty much what I expected from a companion introductory episode. Looking forward to seeing more.
Was really refreshing to see what looked like the filming to be in primarily London rather than Cardiff too. |
Just finished the first 2 seasons of matt smith, and I feel I've missed something. Did they ever actually explain WHY the tardis blew up in his first season? I don't think they ever did.
Also, matt smith has only completed 2 seasons so far right? |
Today's episode was pretty fun. It's not mindblowing, but it was very entertaining and Clara is turning out to be a fine companion. I'm surprised the Great Intelligence is behind it, I wonder if it will be the main antagonist of the story arc?
SPOILER WARNING FOR SERIES 5 & 6 Quote:

So tired of feeling stupid watching Doctor Who. Should've seen the villian coming, it was the same damn thing he did in victorian England. The repeating, robots instead of snowmen. Still, loved it :lol
|
The new episode was OK. It was setting up a lot of threads for later, and didn't explain a lot. As for the TARDIS exploding, I assumed it was to get rid of the Doctor. The Universe ending just happened to be an unexpected side effect.
Meanwhile, on the review side, I failed my goal of uploading all S1 revies before Saturday, on account of me being busy. S1 E7: The Long Game- 07/05/05 In the far future, the Doctor encounters a future different to that which he knows... Plot The Doctor takes Rose and Adam to the year 200,000. They land on a space station broadcasting news via brain implants. The news turns out to have been manipulated by a blob (the Jagrafess) and the mysterious editor. They and some person they meet blow up the blob and go go find Adam. Who downloaded all of 200,000's data into his 2012 answerphone. The Doctor dumps him at hope, destroys his answer phone and leaves him with a brain implant. The Doctor and Rose then leave for their next adventure. Overall the plot isn't bad, but it lacks, especially compared to last weeks episode. It feels more like an episode of the old series, but without a second parter to finish up. 5/10 Character This episode feature development for no regular characters. The Doctor learns about choosing his companions carefully, but that's about it. 3/10 Scare Factor There's a freaky bit when the brain opens up, but not much else. 5/10 Bad Wolf Watch-Bad Wolf TV (The Face of Boe is pregnant???) Overall The last epsiode of the new series I ever had to watch, I hadn't been missing much. This episode could easily be skipped, if not for it tying in to something else... |
