Also, SPOILER ALERT FROM 1966, the whole plot of the Baltan race is that they destroyed their planet with nuclear wars, fled, and then settled on the idea of conquering our planet as their new home. The episode ends with Ultraman basically wiping out the entire (but obviously not really due to later appearances) species in their single ship, the billions of Baltans reduced to microscopic size inside. So that is entirely relevant to Barel's background, yes. |
Quote:
That's really interesting background, I suppose the surviving Baltan aren't particulary happy with the Ultras then. :p 14: Leo's retrospective and it was excellent, probably my favorite so far. On the Kaiju part they finally beat Red King, but their adventure is far from over. Next episode the Spark Dolls return to talk about other Kaiju, sounds fun. And btw: Leobrella. :lolol |
Quote:
Uhhh, no. They aren't happy. :p |
Quote:
And yeah with such a long franchise it's easy to miss those details, I have probably missed hundreds between Retsudan and Mebius. The main problem with the Baltan thing, is that I take everything in the Dai Kaiju segment with a grain of salt, due to it being so different. And yeah I thought so. :lol |
Another one: The Spark Dolls return to talk us about other monsters.
Boy this episode was bizarre, Pandon double personality disorder with the fiery and cold kaiju, then Jack gets torn to pieces, Kanegon and Ol' Moustache, Tiga vs Silvergon a monster who can only see moving objects and has an odd habit of copying Ultra postures. Another Ultra Zero Fight scene is shown where we see MiracleLuna and StrongCorona... You have no idea how much I would love to see UZF subbed. The Monster Rush was surprisingly tame compared to everything else, they fought Neronga. Next week, Rei and co take the spotlight as Black King hosts. That was weird, as heck, even the Spark Dolls thought so. |
Yeah, I always pegged the Space Ninja title on the Baltans due to their "ninja magic" tricks from their appearance, like splitting into multiple copies and disappearing from sight. The Ultra Frontier segments are fun in a sort of "watching the cut scenes from a video game" way, which makes sense considering.
Anyways, I am a little behind because I had family in town over the weekend, but I loved the Ultraman Leo episode. I have watched a few Raw eps of Leo so getting to see even a little bit of it subbed was a hoot. The fights with Black Gillas and Red Gillas (and Alien Magma) are fantastic in their uncut form; the scene where they flood the city has some of the best flood special effects I have ever seen in any movie or TV show, bar none. I also liked Zero talking about how Leo trained him, a bit which really made me smile in the first Zero movie. EDIT: Also, I noticed that in the scene of Ultraseven fighting the Gillas, he has the red collar like his Renewal Ultra-Act. Up next is the Spark Doll Monster Analysis! |
Seeing Rei and Gomora is great, I love that duo, things got kinda spoilery, but it was enough to get you hooked without showing too much, nothing that the Zero movies didn't mention, 'cept for the sister.
The Dolls are funny as always, and seeing a show where the monsters are the heroes was a good change of pace for them. Kemurian's voice is so funny. Neronga is done for btw. Cyphon is next, no clue who he is, and that's great! :D |
Cyphon is a comet, not a monster. :p
|
Yeah, that was unexpected.
Like Seven's episode this was more of a rebroadcast than a compilation episode, not much to say really. |
Finally got a chance to watch the Ultra Galaxy: Mega Monster Battle feature episode of Retsuden last night. Pretty funny to hear the Spark Dolls comment on the monsters, including the female half of Pandon's crush on Rei, heh. I own the DVDs for that series, but have only gotten to see a few episodes as I lent them to my friend who is an Ultra neophyte.
Spark Doll Dragoris (Dragorie in O-T's sub, I have always seen his name as Dragoris) is freaking hilarious. Sir, yes sir! :lol I did not download the next episode, as I just did a watch-thru of all of Ultraman last year. Cool episode though, with 3 great monsters in Gigas (who is a rebuild of the Jamila suit, which is equal parts amazing and strange to me), Dorako (whom I always think of as a proto-Gigan), and of course the return of Red King. |
It's all about the special attacks this week, revisiting Ginga's attacks felt kinda lazy, but it tied nicely to the other Ultras attacks, and we get Cosmos footage!
That moment of doubt Hikaru showed at the end reminds me why I like him so much. This is the second time this week I see Mebius beat Bemstar. :lol He's cute. |
The Special Attacks episode was a lot of fun. I really liked getting to see Taro's Ultra Dynamite, along with ZAT's crazy kitty-cat collar attack!
I am right on with your assessment of Hikaru at the end, algo. Reminded me of Hayata's questioning of whether he enjoys killing the monsters as Ultraman from the episode "The Monster Graveyard." Especially since Hikaru is a lot younger than most of the other Ultra hosts. Similarly, Taro's response to him was really good, about how the Ultra Warriors try to seek a peaceful solution if one is available to them. Edit: Everyone notice the pun in Gan-Q's name? His name is a pun in the Japanese word for "eye," so renaming him "I-Bawl" was cute. |
Just in case you guys hadn't seen, Ginga is back and the latest ep is up on Overtime :D
|
Well Ginga returned in the craziest way possible.
The first half is a recap, which bothers me somewhat since they had Anthology to recap all they wanted. :P The second half is simply crazy, crazy stupid, crazy awesome, stupid awesome, just :lolol The new developments were interesting, they are locked in school... not like that changes much, and Darker Gale is there too! Plus we finally learn the reason Taro keeps his conscience... T_T *sniff* Next week looks fun, glad to have you back Ginga. |
Quote:
That time devoted to a recap aside, this was a nice if very quirky episode of Ginga. I'm glad it's back but man, really wish the Ginga movie could be released so it would be fully subbed too! Dark Galberos made for a more interesting costume reuse and helps to make the Nexus kaiju in general less... pink. I like the hints at the character behind the Spark Doll and that he's sticking around for another episode. Nackle is an oddball; think I'll need more screentime to see how I like him as Valkie's replacement. Next episode looks niiiiiiiice. |

Also, hear hear about the movie... but still enjoying the show. |
Anthology 19! Yahoo!
Another UltraSeven episode with Zero as host, it was fun, interesting to see Seven fighting at human size. Next ep is another Mebius one, which I still need to finish. :p |
TV-N has Ginga episode 8 posted. I have been watching on Over-Time, but they have not posted it yet. So I guess I'll be trying out TV-N's version tonight!

There's a slight spoiler in here, but Ginga's coming back with at least one more episode. What's interesting about this is that it was almost completely unadvertised, the preview for the episode is the first time it was mentioned at all. |
Watched episode 8 last night. Some very interesting developments on the use of the Ginga Spark, what it can do, and who can use it! Good monster action with the return of a classic Ultra foe, plus another monster and another alien. We also get a little bit of storyline progress, but honestly I watch this show for the action. The cliffhanger was really good and really got me jazzed for the next installment.

9! This week Ultralives were very interesting, as they showed the true potential of the sparks, sure we had seen Dark Ultras before but that was a canon form of Tiga and the group live was interesting if a little useless.
|
10 is subbed! Thank you TV-Nihon! T_T
Hikaru takes a journey to the center of the mind to save Misuzu, while the rest of the gang steps up and Ultra-Live into Ultraman, Seven and Tiga! Also the connection between all the victims are revealed and the one behind everything steps up. A great lead up to the finale... which may take months to get subbed. :cry |
I continue to wait impatiently for the finale... hopefully it will see the light of day at some point. I am guessing that Ginga S is going to be similarly back burnered, unfortunately.
|
If any one cares over-time released episode 8.

Sort of sad that it hasn't gotten any attention, but oh man, the first episode of Ginga S is great! I'm not getting my hopes up that anyone actually subs it anytime soon though.
But still! I'm actually excited to see the next episode! You should watch it. |
I watched it the other day. It was very very enjoyable.
I am surprised that Victory was introduced so quickly. But I suppose at 16 episodes they really need to. |
Why is it taking so long to Sub Ultraman Ginga? I mean I want to watch Ginga S but I'd like it to be subbed.
|
^I think Overtime mentioned they lost interest in it and are only subbing episodes when they have the spare time.
I do agree, I'd love to see Ginga S soon as well. |
From the new post on MFC's website...
So, cool? |

GingaAnon has done the second episode of Ginga S. This show is still great!
|
tvnihon just released the final episode of Ginga.
|
Looks like GingaAnon has put the show on hold while they deal with some things, so I guess were back to waiting for O-T or TV-N - if either even plan to do it. I'm hoping they will since, judging from the first three episodes, Ginga-S is a zillion times better than Ginga.

I just learned that Ginga S existed yesterday and just found out that some of it was subbed today. I liked the first episode, although I had to pause it at one point to try and figure out where the hell I knew the other dude from the task force (it's Gou from Shougeki Gouraigan). It's nice to see that this new season of Ginga is going back more to Ultraman's roots, what with things like the task force, the ancient civilization, and a budget. I think I'll keep up with this.
Also, you could tell from the very first shot after the opening credits who directed this. :lol |
I have really enjoyed Ginga S so far, so I eagerly troll both GingaAnon and Short Stick Subs to see if episode 5 has been released. Now I need to decide how much I want to spend on Spark Dolls from this series...
