The mere concept of a TMNT/MMPR crossover? http://blog.signalnoise.com/wp-conte...i_awesome6.jpg I'm on both sides in a way. Even if Wild Force was when I actually figured out what "Power Rangers" was.:o |
So I'm on episode 6 of RPM. I'm really enjoying it so far. And I haven't enjoyed a PR show in ages.

I just started In space last night, im on ep 3 right now. How much footage did saban film vrs the megaranger footage? |
If I recall, Megaranger was a gadget series that never actually left orbit, so many space scenes are original footage.
|
So was Lost Galaxy, since Gingaman took place on Earth.
Speaking of Lost Galaxy, I'm definitely going to watch it tonight. I have to admit, I really like the Gingaman suits, simply because of the squiggly line on their chests. |
Time Force Episode 33: Time for Lightseed
I'll be honest and say that when it comes to teem ups I normally skip the ones that feature teams from seasons I never watched... but thanks to Linkara's history of Power Rangers I was able to become familiar with the Lightspeed rangers with out actually needing to watch Lightspeed Rescue. So yeah, this is the only episode of Time Force that I had never seen before and... it wasn't half bad. The two teams go together nicely and although it's never explained how Vypra came back to life or shown when Eric meets up with Ryan I'm willing to let things like this side due to the limited run time plus the fact that you just have to excuse a couple of logical problems when it comes to crossovers. Speaking of Vypra, Linkara commented on how wooden her acting was in his History of Lightspeed video and man no where is it most prominent than right here. The scenes with her interacting with Ransik and Nadira were rather painful whenever she opened her mouth especially when you consider how much better the delivery of the villains of Time Force is. Seriously, go watch the scene where she infiltrates the prison and meets Ransik and Nadira and compare I swear the contrast in performances is so big it's not even funny. |
i just started watching RPM yesterday, made it through episode 6 and i love it so far.

my work here is done. |
Started watching Time Force. It's pretty good so far and what look like to be original footage in episode one was pretty amazing! Hopefully it's as good as people say it is.
|
With everyone watching Megaranger, I decided to be edgy and watch In Space.
After Megaforce, it was amazing to have what I think appears to be an episode made up entirely of original footage. Those were the days, huh? The acting could use some work, but I'm grateful it's bound in continuity without shutting out someone like me, who hasn't seen the first four iterations to completion in over a decade. Weirdest for me though? All the sexiness like when Divatox drops her coat to reveal a revealing outfit and then remarks to Dark Spector as to how much he reminds her of her fiancée. If that was enough to go over my head as a kid, what about Astronema pushing her ass out at the camera as she struts around in her Catwoman clothes? Stupid sexy Melody Perkins. |
You're gonna love In Space, Locke. Trust me. :D

Okay, part two of erm...episode one. Fucking Alpha.
Oh the wasted potential of KO-35. That could have been the perfect explanation for why the Dairanger suits exist as keys, but well FUCK THAT. Still though, taking it for what it is, I love the idea that there are Rangers fighting across space this whole time it just feels really epic, shame they're grounding the Rangers already next episode. This was still quite early in Saban's lifespan and as such some of the original fight scenes leave a lot to be desired. I'm grateful that we actually HAVE unique footage but although the unmorphed fighting is fine, I got very little sense of power from the Rangers when they were fighting morphed. This seemed largely down to the editing, there was a clear lack of impact from the hits, although they bothered to add special effects for Cassie's and Ashley's weapons they didn't actually add effects for summoning them so it looked TERRIBLE and during the priming of the Astro Megazord I loved watching Andros apparently power down and then up again between frames. That isn't to say the sentai footage is without sin, either. The transformation for In Space has to be one of the worst ever. Not only is it just lame visually, the Megaranger footage they splice in has half a screen of complete gibberish in English and utterly pointless stats. https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.n...43901eed0779ba Characterwise, they're all a pretty mixed bag. Andros seems cool, if his acting leaves a fair bit to be desired but I'm already getting a Daigo feel from him with how Ashley immediately began to drool over him and he utterly overshadowed Carlos, who right now seems the most deserving of Red. Biggest disappointment is TJ though, how does a former Red have so little presence? |
Episode Three of In Space. Wow look even these days Saban couldn't be bothered to edit out the references to the original sentai.
I love how Andros tries to pretend he doesn't fit in, while being the most of his time looking out of the whole room. I bet when he gets sad and stuff, he doesn't cry, he gets his guitar out and sings about it. I know he's not an "alien" but couldn't he at least feel slightly...disconnected? Even if you ignore the question of where the hell his 90s clothes came from (complete with being completely the wrong size, so totally the right size for the fashion at the time) he also has the most 90s hair and accessories out of the lot of them as well - unless wearing hooped earrings of that style is some cross universe accepted fashion statement. I also can't wait for his civilian power to never be used for fight scenes. Oh God, this reminded me of two things I hated about early Saban, Alpha and Bulk and Skull. Do they really need to waste half of every episode on shitty comedy stuff that pads the episode but serves no wider purpose at all? Man Ecliptor's introduction is really, really bad. His voice actor sounds like he should be on Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged and he just sorta...appears out of absolutely nowhere and then just immediately leaves again in what I can only assume is extremely condensed footage because I thought I leant on the fast forward button for a second. And honestly with how quickly they kick his ass in the tacked on Zord battle of the week, I don't even believe Andros' Troy level of delivery when he tells the audience the crucial bit of information that he is 'bad news'. Even the dramatic escape as the Dark Fortress rains down hell kinda fell flat because the quality of the editing was so poor. Seriously the actual quality of the film seemed to change with every cut, ranging from blurry, to grainy to completely washed out. It was also frustrating because they bothered to establish they were at Nasada which is what NONE of the signs said, why not just use the same name in the footage to avoid this shit? It isn't like it matters. Lightstar Helmet mode?! Where the hell did that come from?! What the hell even is that?! Look, I don't HATE In Space before someone starts, when you compare it to Megaforce In Space is mind blowing in terms of story, characterisation, ratio of American footage to Japanese. But even more than that, I've actually quite liked In Space so far, but my frustrations are that pretty much everything I've listed here is so easily fixed, and so difficult to get wrong in the first place. Maybe you could say Saban are still finding their feet after Turbo almost crippled the franchise but was it so hard to not make Andros the height of 90s fashion? Was it so hard to introduce Ecliptor properly? Was it so hard to at least edit your show cohesively? Was it so hard not to waste yet MORE screen time on Bulk and Skull? No, I really don't think it is. OH GOD THE NINJA TURTLES. |
The English is entirely pointless and just random gibberish. But the stats are a hold over from the Megaranger footage (The Megarangers are characters in a video game). They're solely used to hammer in the "They're video game characters" fact, and nothing more.

Been watching RPM on Netflix so I can actually say "I've seen every episode of Power Rangers". So far I'm on episode 29.

Right I'm skipping Shellshocked which Amazon has hilariously misspelt - not into a funny word or anything it's just hilarious that even Amazon cares so little they misspelt it. So onwards with episode five!
Man remember when Power Rangers had a plot, and actual characters? These were the days. This is the badly acted love story about how a Hispanic man fell in love with a man from across the stars. The scenes on KO-35 were great, even though the weight of the scenes seemed to have more implicated weight...than actual ramifications. It mean it's pretty damn dark to see Andros walking through his dead planet. I know it was just due to sentai limitations but the fact there is no visual damage and it's just empty makes the implications seem all the more terrifying. As if KO-35 fell before a single shot was fired. Shame the mood was completely ruined with Ecliptor coming back to life out of nowhere and engaging Andros in a battle to see who can make the very worst pun out of their battle to the death. Why are fights with Ecliptor always these horribly edited strings of scenes that have barely any cohesiveness and are over in seconds? Also what the hell did Carlos smash through reality itself? |
Well I suppose I should talk about what my opinions about Time Force have been thus far.
Well the first episode had me amazed, as to what seemed like original footage most of the way. As well as the ending of the episode like wow, they actually did that, and now the pink has something to fight for. The characters I enjoy more than what Megaforce offers which is to be expected. Now as for the Japanese footage, it's really obvious to me when watching, or when they used Green Screen. So overall I enjoy it though KR Wizard has a bit of a larger priority right now. |
Just Restarted Operation Overdrive for my review series.
First two episodes made me want to stop already XD |
Just finished RPM and I can't believe I have been missing this all this time! Love the show and its ending.

In Space 6.
As always, the quantity of American footage was great...it's just a shame that the American footage is just not that great in itself. The American morphed footage was certainly better than that terribly edited mess at the start of the show, but it really isn't there yet and don't get me started on those space battles *shudder*. Still between the gorgeous Astronema strutting about and the really well done unmorphed battles, it isn't at a total loss. Especially as this show is clearly driven by its own plot, not the plot of the sentai footage. |
It gets better once Darkonda shows up.

In Space 7.
To get it out of the way, the creativity and unique identity of In Space is both refreshing and rather wonderful both in comparison to Megaforce but also just in general. There is some really well done American footage, integration of sentai elements and so far the plot has been interesting, engaging and exciting. The problem is, a lot of the creative decisions are well...kinda bad. Firstly, it almost feels like In Space is trying to find where the hell to put the footage. They have to use at least 20% right? So although things like the holodeck training feel initially inspired, you also can't help get a lingering feeling that it's just tacked on there to hit their quota. Especially as they've used the same fight for this sequence twice. Even the stuff actually used directly in the episodes is pretty awful, being that it's regularly spliced to the point of utter incoherence. For one scene the monster of the week is a giant, the next he's regular sized, Ecliptor comes out of nowhere and the monster vanishes. I'm not kidding, all of that happens over about five seconds. Not to mention once again both he and the monster of the week go down in the space of about ten seconds. Also wow, Andros is way more Daigoy than I remember, not only was this episode centred almost exclusively on him but pretty much the entire show is. Although Alpha goes on about Zordon's 'master plan', all the other Rangers in this show feel almost like baggage, they are there by chance, and it only further cheapens them that as Zordon is being killed by Dark Spector in space somewhere...they still go to school, completely grounding Andros and their entire mission. |
In Space 8.
Astronema grinning to herself while imagining the city being nuked was pretty fucking dark, between that and Andros walking around his dead planet there is some heavy shit going on here. Honestly as far as things go, Astronema is pretty progressive, especially as she's an original creation. Shame the actual focus of the episode though was Cassie and her stupid diary. Who the fuck cares? At least the real world drama in the Andros focused episode both showed him adapting to Earth life and stopping both a monster and a bunch of thieves. What does this shit achieve? Painting men as total creeps? Thanks. The action was a bit better implemented this week. It's still not really that great, but it seemed to at least try and integrate and build around Megaranger. Whereas last week you could practically hear the huffing and puffing whenever they had to use footage. Plus, the Megatank was pretty darn sweet. |
So I'm nine episodes into In Space and I have to ask...when does it get good?
It seems to be the one Power Rangers show which is even appreciated by the haters of the franchise. And yeah sure, it has some great ideas and is a far cry from Megafarce/fail/forced but the execution of most of the ideas downright fails. I'm honestly contemplating just dropping this and watching a different Power Rangers show, this just hasn't been very good so far. |
In Space is the one show where they shouldn't be going to school. even more so than supermegaforce.

Due to my general disappointment with In Space I decided to skip ahead and watch the first episode of Lightspeed Rescue.
Once again, the fact there is a focused story, established characters and a much greater quantity of American to Japanese footage should be expected but after Neo Saban, going back to Old Saban and seeing this is just kinda special. Sadly much like In Space although everything I said is true, once again it's full of questionable storytelling and casting choices. Like if nothing else, the core concept of In Space was awesome, Lightspeed....yeah not so much. In terms of action, there is a hilarious moment where Carter falls on a bit of "debris" in slow motion, to which we both hear and see the polystyrene scatter, why they left that in...eh. The monsters have interesting designs, but the engineering on the suits is primitive with the opening MOTW with hilariously stumpy, limited arm movement. On the flipside, the morph is cool as all hell and I REALLY like the suits. They are still relatively simple, but not downright boring like In Space. Plus in general, everyone came across as really badass when morphed so you got that satisfying power jump you never seemed to get with In Space and it gave the fight gravitas that it was in the ruined city street in front of a crowd of onlookers. |
Just finished Time Force. Thirteen Years later and it's still awesome! :D
Now I'm on Wild Force... I'm beginning to think Time Force was a little too good. :o |

Well been watching Time Force off and on at night, extra time etc. and well we better get a tribute episode for it in SMF, now I want Time Force figuarts >_<, and the key pack! and the SMF cycle for it.
|
Okay, so I just finished off the best (IMO) season that Power Rangers had to offer, and now I'm gonna start what was hailed as the worst until Neo Saban came along.
Yep, I'm going from RPM to OO. |
