It was well done, but it didn't feel very Power Rangers like...
We'll have to wait and see. |
That's just it.
When I think Power Rangers, I think teens in bright coloured outfits fighting monsters and saving indescriminate Japanese cities in America with giant robots and cool weapons. I didn't see any Power Rangers in that trailer. Everthing has to be DARK AND SERIOUS and it's getting hyper-old for me. |
… What did I just watch?

*In the same beat as Megaforce's opening*
POWER RANGERS, THIS IS NOT! Seriously, this seems like it should be it's own thing and not MMPR. The girl reminded me a little too much of Black Widow, the "Are the Morphers ready" line to me sounded forced, like even the actor knew that what he was saying was ridiculous, and the effects, while flashy (which is something we know happens in Power Rangers often) felt too overdone. |

Although I might watch it if they have a Megazord. Just imagine how glorious that would be. Quote:

It could be neato. |
So anyone wanna guess when the C&D will come?
|
This looks like a trailer every single cheap, campy, low budget, syfy channel wannabee, action movie ever made. As I've said from the beginning I welcome the moment Saban shafts this whole project :lol
|
Can we just start adapting Kamen Rider now? Everyone keeps wanting DARK AND SERIOUS BROODING GRITTY ACTION DRAMA FIGHT and PR is far too lighthearted for that.
Even if RPM, Time Force and in Space were awesome. |

It doesn't feel like Power Rangers, the fact that all the technology is human made - a major turn off. It kills the mystique and mystery of the show.
I hope that there is a bit of humor in the final episode, and that it doesn't try way to hard to take itself seriously, that is what MMPR is all about. Teenagers who also happen to fight alien monsters when they're not in school. I appreciate all the hard work that the crew has put into this, so i'll reserve all my final thoughts until the series is eventually complete. But based on the trailer those are my initial reactions. |

Kamen Rider Dragon Knight suffered from a few things.
For starters - the battles failed to keep my attention, so I imagine kids wouldn't be paying attention either. Power Rangers has it nailed down - put in some heavy beat music, lots of "HIYAS" and such, be loud and obnoxious with cool stunts. Dragon Knight was more like "........hfff........hehhhh.......unnng....." as costumed heroes jumped and rolled on the ground. Secondly, it was on the CW going against Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network. No chance there. I think an adaption of Kamen Rider Fourze would work VERY well, and I would imagine that Gaim would do even better - it has a very Power Rangers feel to it with all the Riders, with the right overtone of humor. But it has to be done right. And I don't think Saban could honestly do it right - the charm and appeal of some of these Kamen Rider shows is how campy they can get out of the blue but then jump back to seriousness. As for the MMPR trailer... It's not that I *DON'T* like it. It just doesn't look like Power Rangers. I'm sure at the end of the day it will be a quality fan-made feature and there will be many who do "love" it. Time will tell. But yes, Dina Cataldi is very attractive ;) |

The irony is, Dragon Knight did really really well in Japan. And here is me, the only white guy on the planet who apparently loved it as much as them. But then again Japan loves Power Rangers Samurai...and let's not go there.

Luckily the MMPR fan film has most of the Power Rangers die-hards for viewership. Quote:

It doesn't help that the whole project is tainted with a director who's just out for money, not nostalgia or to make a good movie/series in any way, this is just a cash grab for him. He just wants to open doors to a "real" career. The effects while nice enough look to be about on par with straight to DVD movies and the acting seems about the same. And there's every chance in the world this thing will be shut down by Saban once it's noticed. Huge infringement right here. So what is there to make actual Power Rangers fans want to see this thing? |
Hey guys-
Just was reading some of the discussion about the trailer that was released yesterday (happy birthday to me!) - In general, I love the discussion and the points being made - the overall response across all the web has been great (Over 20,000 views in 24 hours, not too bad) - and we can only hope that continues. Not everyone has enjoyed it though, or thinks the idea still will work - we are keeping tabs on all that though and can hopefully implement some of the feedback as we continue on - I helped edit the trailer and am helping with the edit of the first episode (when I don't work as an actor, I work as an editor - diapers are expensive!), so if you guys have any questions about that process feel free to ask away. And I go back to NYC in the new year to begin shooting episode 2 (which I won't be editing btw) and we are nearing the VFX, Sound Design, Color Correction & Music Composing stage of the first episode...really good stuff ahead I think. |
Wait, back up abit. The director/guy leading this is doing it for the money?? Wha-? Where's it gonna come from??
I'm not a cop, though my paper SPD badge I got from a coloring book says otherwise, but isn't it illegal to make money off of someone else's patented idea? |

I've heard more people say the director dude is a jerk than I've heard of this fan film. Can't say I can confirm that, never talked to him myself. Least not that I know of, I'm always a happy mo'fo and deal with people as I like to be treated. Can't help to wonder that more people would support this guy's idea if he was not just friendlier, but understanding. Criticism is best taken in good light, cuz from what I read in this thread, there's a larger amount of people not liking this project. Not saying bend to people's will cuz then you're never pleasing everyone, but don't exactly retort rudely.

THE FOLLOWING IS HERE-SAY. THE INFORMATION ALWAYS SEEMS TO BE SECOND-HAND, AND MOST OF THE DISCUSSIONS ON THIS TOPIC FROM OTHER SITES ARE REMOVED. PLEASE TAKE THE FOLLOWING AS A GRAIN OF SALT - THESE ARE NOT BEING STATED AS FACTS, ONLY AS STICKING POINTS TO THOSE WHO ARE VERY, VERY AGAINST THIS PROJECT. The points of debate (I do not know reasoning) - that Dom raised more than his goal on the initial KickStarter, then opened a second fundraiser on another website, which irked many of the fans. Another reason was this was promised as a film - it's has now changed in to a "series of web-isodes". Third was a revelation from a college buddy of Dom that stated that he is only in this for exposure and for what he hopes is an eventual payday, that he decided to use "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" because the franchise has picked up popularity lately and he hopes to cash in on the nostalgia. An interview with Morphin Legacy had Dom answer the question about haters in which he stated (paraphrasing) - "They don't bug me. They're going to watch it either way." Then a report came out that the actors of the film were going to hospitals and telling disabled kids they were the Power Rangers (which, technically, they aren't). Now - I tried to initiate an interview with Dom a long time ago. I was ignored. Don Money, who is really a great guy with a good heart (and posts here), set me up directly with Dom for an interview. There has been no contact since then, and that was a couple of months ago. I want to give Dom a chance to address some of the negativity that's been cast upon him and this project in an unbiased and professional manner. Everyone deserves the right to defend themselves against accusations on their character. I want to like this project - the crew involved seem like really awesome people who love to interact with the community. And I would love to be able to promote their work with clear conscience. But before I can do that I need, and I think the community needs, some of those questions answered. So here's to hoping :) |
Same here.

Hey guys! My name is Matt Meinsen, and I'm also one of the actors involved in the project. I play Detective Stanton, partner of Don Money's character of Christian Tate. Like Don, I've been reading around and checking feedback on the trailer and came across this thread which I read top to bottom. As any actor, or any artist of any kind knows, criticism is part of the job, and often one of the best ways to analyze one's performance. I will be the first to say, I have responded "not so kindly" to some posts I've seen around on other boards, not because they were critical, but because they were more attacks and personal comments than anything else. I commend you guys on this board who ,for the most part, have kept your criticisms to actual criticisms and kept it professional and courteous. There will be the occasional personal attack, I get that, but in situations like this I attribute it mostly to the passion of the fandom. On that note, I will check back fairly frequently and if there is any questions that I can answer, or concerns that I can address, please feel free to ask and I'll do my best to do so. There has been a LOT of rumor, most of which I'd be happy to address, some which I can't, but an awful lot of which I can assure you, has NO basis in truth (and some of which, honestly, does). So...ask away if you like, if not, that's cool, too. All I ask is to keep it courteous, and understand that, based upon agreements I made, there are just some things that I will not be able to answer and I'm not avoiding the question. If you want to contact me more directly I have a professional page on Facebook or you can contact me directly through my website at mattmeinsen.com. Looking forward to speaking with some of you and opening up a line of communication to try and show that, despite the fact that some may not agree with what we're doing, that our intentions are good. Thanks and hope everyone enjoyed their holiday!
