Checked out the first episode, didn't even get through it all...

I was bored before it even hit halfway and really don't like the visual style of it. I feel like I should give it more of a chance but so far it's just meh.

Enjoying this show so far for its mix of odd comedy and random boob shots. The main character Hitomi is cute and got nice legs despite her skinny frame. I will keep watching but let's face it, storywise it sucks compare to GARO.

This one had some really fun moments, the butterflies, the rice scene, and generally speaking any time they goofed around, like in the ed.

And that's the thing, if this were a slice of life toku, it would be great! The humor is good, the idea of these strange creatures adapting to human life is solid, and the cast has potential.
But it's not, and it's attempts to create a stroy are terrible, the scenes with the businessman and the secretary(?) are a pain to sit through, and so far the story is not engaging at all.

I'll continue to enjoy the slice of life side inmensely, but the other parts simply fall apart.

So I just watched episode 04. The action is really well done, and visually splendid, but it is tacked on to the end of a 19 minute slog of randomness that isn't funny in the slightest. About the only thing that made me smile, aside from the fight, was the GARO reference.

Still I kinda wanna stick around to see the team form, because I'm hoping then the slice of life non comedy will be completely cut back for greater quantities of action. And if this show focused on the action in the future, I think it could become its own version of a masterpiece.

Me, I like all parts of the show. The slice of life stuff is odd but amusing and I enjoy the liberties this show is taking with its fourth wall. The fight scenes are visually very impressive and I love the crazy Amemiya visuals. The show's not perfect, by any means, and I have no idea how long it will keep charming me like this, but for now I think it's shaping up to be my favorite show of 2013.

To be honest, if you couldn't make it through the first episode, there is nothing more for you to see.

The only reason I am still watching it is because all of my friends love it and I don't know why. The show has no purpose, no plot, and is just trying to be random for the sake of being random. There has been no character development at all outside of the girl (whose name I don't even remember) cannot see monsters while on her period. When that is the biggest development you have had so far, you know your shot has gone to the toilet. At least it is better than Garo S3...

BTW, Gaim is more slice of life than this!!

I don't get why you hate the show so much man, I think it's been pretty decent so far. Not quite as good as the first season, but still better than Makai Senki.

Honestly the show is doing very little for me either so far other than the pretty visuals. I have episodes 3 and 4 to watch this weekend but if I don't get any more after it out of that than I can see me dropping it.

I'm glad there are people out there enjoying it though, those designs are too sweet to be wasted on a show no one likes.

They are my main gripe with the show so far.

I'm not trying to get into a debate about it again, but the short version is I found the Horror designs to be lackluster, there was little to no development for any of the "heroes," they were not even likable "heroes," the plots were boring to watch, there was too much mcguffins going on (hero goes blind so we can just fix that up in the next episode, making the point of having him go blind... pointless), and the ending was a huge disappointment. A series, no matter how good or bad, can be redeemed by its finale, and this is one show that had an ending that was just as bad as the rest of the series.

Back to the topic, Shougeki is my punishment for making my friends sit through Go-Buster.

Ep 4 is just so silly and weird that I was going to stop watching halfway through, but when Shou turned into Hitomi the ep got rather interesting. It's too bad she can't stay in that form longer. I'd like to see Hitomi with a wilder side since her character is so bland.

I'm willing to wait this out. Cutey Honey the Live started out really weird and silly, too, and then it got crazy dark and serious (or so I've read - I still haven't watched past episode 3. I need to get back to that at some point).

He plays Gan and will debut in episode 5 (or already has if you watch the show live).

I never finished Cutey Honey, I watched the first couple of episodes for Hara and then got distracted by all the other hundreds of recommendations I get a day. I should probably go back and finish that once I finish GARO as I'll have a gap I need to fill.

But at least I now have a reason to stick another episode with this show!

Yeah, I started watching it right when the Megaupload takedown happened. I didn't want to torrent it for some reason, so that pretty much nixed my ability to watch the show. By the time DDLs become available again my interests had moved on.

Just watched episode 5. We've finally got a complete cast now, as Kintaros - er, Gan joins the team. He definitely seems to be the closest we've got to a secondary hero as he's more committed to fighting evil than the other three Kageribito. He's also the first one to fight Gou to a draw. I assume that the next phase of the plot will start soon, but it looks like episode six is going to be more about the Imagin - er, Hikaribito adapting to life on Earth. There was a bit of that this week with them trying to figure out what a mosquito coil is. It was kinda cute, but not something I want to see as the main focus of the next several episodes.

Also, Rurika kept all her clothes on this week and her hands stayed where we can all see them.

Actually, it's probably the least sexual episode to date. Well, outside of the bit where Shou tries to rape Gou.

^It wasn't a draw, Gan pretty much won the fight, another blast from Kazankou and Gou would have been dead. The only reason why Gan joined him is because he's impressed with Gou's spirit and decide to entrust Gou with his "absolute justice".
Gan's a real riot BTW, he's pretty much an affectionate parody and exaggeration of those righteous samurai character in Jidai Geki films with his hammy dialogue about justice and all. That deep and extremely hammy voice just made it more perfect.

Yeah, I like him. Dude's a catchphrase monster, though, with that "absolute justice has arrived!" stuff. :lol

(on a side note, I'm kind of impressed that I know enough Japanese now to figure out more or less what he kept saying)

So if I keep watching toku and anime I'll be able to speak Japanese?

No, it's just that there are some commonly used words and phrases that you pick up after watching a couple dozen different tokusatsus.

And really, anyone who watched Den-O knows what "sanjo" means.

Watched episodes 2 and 3 of this, and absolutely love the craziness of this show. Rai is totally crazy and silly and Geki is totally a badass. I cannot wait to see the other 2. I love the duel scenes it's like watching a fighting game.

So I gave it another chance, watched eps 2 and 3. They're definitely better, and I actually really enjoyed them.

Few issues I have though that could put me off going forward...
The lack of focus and actual sort of story
The pointless nympho secretary

Also not too sure how I feel about the duels. They're pretty cool action wise (if not very samey/predictable) but it just feels really odd visually. I can't put my finger on it, but all I know is it just doesn't sit right with me.

That said, the actual suit designs for the main cast are awesome.

My problem with the Duels is there isn't much too them. I know a lot of Sentai fights especially go through the motions, but it kinda works in context. Every fight in this show involves Gou and x jumping about a bit, then the words WEAPON ADVENT smash into the screen, Gou gets hit with x weapon of the week, before swinging his sword and victory. That isn't even an exaggerated abbreviation. The only Duel that felt close to an actual fight was the one with Geki.

Yeah, that's my biggest issue with them too.

The Gan one is pretty cool, but I do think the bulky suits are kinda limiting what the actors have the freedom to do in them.

I don't think the green screen environments help either, having some polystyrene walls goes a long way to add a sense of physical impact to your action. Rubber fists hitting rubber chests does nothing to give us a sense of power, and the amount of special effects they lay over the top of the attacks, only further softens the sense of impact.

Yup. Thats why I said they feel samey. Each episode he's getting his ass kicked then he just magically wins. Sure, as you said, it kinda happens in most toku but here it just feels so formulaic.

I think it feels worse here because the fights are literally fifteen seconds long and take place in the last three minutes of every episode. At least a sentai fight is spread out over an episode and broken up with character moments and the like.

This show is just: Random shit -------------------------> 15 second fight -> more random shit all the way through the credits ---------> End.

That's the whole point, and the joke. Things in toku nowadays are so formulaic, and director Kaneda is making it obvious to the viewers.

That doesn't make it entertaining to watch week after week though.

But it's done so seriously and dead pan that it doesn't work, also...

Out of battle it pokes fun at the 'genre' but the Duels it seems to take seriously. Akibaranger did the whole self reflexivity/meta humor thing well pretty much throughout (sure explosion gags got a bit old but eh..) Here it's far too obvious and hammed up during the 'story' sections, and just makes the battles boring.

Long story short, there are better ways of doing it.
