The mall scenes showed chemistry between our Rangers of the likes never seen before (in this show I mean) it almost made the acting seem good. Orion is certainly, without question, a good actor and I have to say that I loved his gloriously tacky 80s jacket, where can I get myself one of those?! :lol
Honestly I'm really enjoying his character in general, they've taken him in a drastically different direction from Gai and ironically he's the only one of the Megaforce Rangers with a backstory, despite them having like twenty five episodes over him. Maybe I'm being too kind just because I'm so happy for any shade of creativity but likewise shitting on everything the show does, even on episodes like this where it's clearly trying, doesn't seem to be the right way to go about this show either. Leaving in Dairanger suits and being mad about that, is not being overcritical but lots of people here are getting answers to their questions, complaining the answers aren't good enough and decrying the entire episode because it doesn't satisfy their own personal expectations. THAT is being overcritical of a show. I'm not gonna say this is some well written, well thought out piece of Shakespearean literature or something because no, that'd be ridiculous but I do think this episode deserves more praise than it's gotten. These last two episodes have marked a massive improvement for the show - and Neo-Saban in general - and if everything up 'til now was Saban finding its feet, and from now one we get more and more episodes like this then I almost feel okay with forgiving them for the last three and half seasons of shit. |

Where did the Morpher and Key come from? Unanswered. Why are there suddenly sixth keys when there clearly weren't before? Unanswered. Why does Silver use specific three keys to transform his mech? Unanswered. Why is his mecha called the Q-Rex, yet nobody bothers to explain why? Unanswered. The Q-Rex in particular bothers the crap out of me. Gozyu Drill is based on something Power Rangers only from Time Force, the footage was serving them something on a silver platter, yet they refuse to take advantage of it. "Both the giant drill and the Q-Rex were owned by the Silver Guardians?" -Head Tilt- "Let's just call it the Q-Rex and leave it at that!" The episode was sad because it was going well but the second Sentai footage showed up Saban reared its ugly head again with shoddy, shoddy editing (the Samurai scene was choppy as hell) and huge gaps of logic. |
The Ramei Tank existed in Timeranger if I recall correctly.

Still, it doesn't help the situation for SMF. |
what is the ramei tank?
Oh for gods sake this is horrible. Noah points out the obvious-why is his morpher different? unanswered. The sixth rangers are calling out to him? garbage. How are they calling out to him, why this alien? Ambrasia is his planet? why not a planet we know like Ko-35, Mironoi, Aquitar(make him a hybrid) or Triforia? Obvious choice for something thats suppose to be a fan wank season. And like others have said, why is that morpher there that Gosei seems to know the existence of. Why the hell couldnt someone like Wes say hey, Time Force has the perfect zord for this guy and their all knowing nature of the timeline knows this is the perfect time for it. That whole Orion has earned this Megazord was so damn arbitrary it makes me sick Still a better episode but too much shit.. |
This episode did have a couple of misses in terms of high expectations, but overall, it also exceeded many other expectations (see: none).
Allow me to explain. The original expectation for this episode was to get some sort of backstory and, the assumption was, we'd get some explanation for the Q-Rex Megazord and why it was named as such. The episode missed in this regard - there was no explanation given for the Q-Rex Megazord, other than "It's the Time Force Q-Rex!". That was disappointing. However, to receive a complete original backstory for a character in Orion, and to have it be as dark and depressing as it was? That was not expected at all. I find it beyond awesome that he's the lone survivor of a planet that was destroyed - and that they showed him falling to the ground in complete despair. And to have as much original story and characterization that we got - which is more than we got in every episode of Super Megaforce and Megaforce combined till now - was an even bigger surprise. The parts where they're in the mall and Jake keeps wanting to get up to join (out of jealousy) were great and totally in-character. And Gia and Emma totally flocking to Orion like you'd expect girls to do - also awesome. I'm not going to nitpick the crystal damaging the ship. I'm not going to nitpick that it took him "months to repair" something that only got hit by a rock. I'm not going to nitpick that they didn't explain where the morpher came from (hell, we got more back story on it than we did the original Super Megaforce morphers). I will say I am sad that, even though they never showed the 6th Ranger Keys in any shot of the keys, they're suddenly there now and glowing. That may have been a writing mistake that was meant to say "The 6th Ranger Keys! They're here!" I think that a number of the issues with this show stem 100% from Jonathan Tzachor. I believe his absence from Dino Charge will result in a better show. Till then, we have to wade through what's left of this series by someone who didn't care about longtime fans of the show. It's a shame that he was trusted to be in charge of an anniversary celebration season and has given us anything but that. |

Were the sixth Ranger keys not in the command centre before? In terms of this, I never noticed. I just knew keys were on the wall but I never actually took notice of WHICH keys, so I just assumed they sixth keys were always there. That might explain why the sixth keys looked so shoddy when they focused on them. In terms of the Q-Rex, they clearly state "The Q Rex from Time Force" or something like that. Is it a bad explanation? Does the Q Rex resemble Timeforce the least out of the three shows it is made up of? Yep on both accounts. But that doesn't mean that it ISN'T an explanation, and once again any issues with the explanation are personal and nitpicky at the best considering everything else in the series is 'because Gosei'. |
A Morpher with all the sixth rangers (Robo Knight included) on it as well as a key specifically the same as the other Rangers is found inside a rock on another planet with absolutely no explanation and thinking that big Question Mark needs to be explained even in the slightest is nitpicky? I disagree. And yes, it does become bad because it wasn't a real explanation. It wasn't an explanation at all. You being satisfied with it doesn't stop it from being awful. It wasn't done well there.
"Because Gosei" doesn't even work for this specific thing is because pretty much the first thing Gosei said was that he was "of Earth" so an inferred explanation that he made them and put them in a rock on another planet doesn't make a lick of sense. Eitherway the fact that the show has been utterly crap at explaining anything when it comes to these powers doesn't stop this part from being utterly crap too. I guess the Q-Rex thing is vaguely an explanation but it isn't even close to satisfactory. The Q-Rex wasn't even in the Year 3000 and the fact that MMPR Green and DT White are used without anybody even pointing them out just adds to the confusion. But no, the scene with the MMPR Green, Quantum and DT White keys glowing was the first time the sixth keys were there, similar to the Megaforce keys suddenly spawning on the wall in Episode 3. Everyone was expecting something with Silver to happen to explain their appearance, especially considering they avoided using them last episode, but alas, Super Megaforce. I'm beginning to think the Keys will never be explained. I don't think legitimate holes count as nitpicking, really. I accept real nitpicks like "why did he say it took him so long to fix a ship" and "why did he take it down with a slingshot" because they are really nitpicky but no explanation of a Power(s) or a returning Zord are significantly bigger issues and I really don't think calling them nitpicks are fair. Sure, they're ultimately ignorable, but you could say that about most problems of any show, just because you can enjoy a show flaws and all doesn't stop the flaws from being flaws. |

Which would be an excellent explanation if the show ever bothered to leave even an implication to it. That's the problem, any explanation of anything in Super Megaforce is fanon.

Oh man this episode was kind of awesome. Orion has an actual backstory and a pretty cool one at that. He also seems to have more personality than the other rangers, but I feel like that must be contagious since the other rangers actually had discernable personalities this episode. I actually smiled at their antics! They had antics!
Gai's overeagerness is played off as Orion's thirst for vengeance and him being used to working alone. Yeah, the who e Q-Rex thing raises one billion questions, but overall I thought this episode was fun. Also the fact that they actually thought of an explanation as to how the rangers found their way to the command center is pretty surprising. I hope the future episodes continue to up the quality....when they get here in five months. Quick, someone remind me....last time this happened didn't we get the first half early on netflix? And didn't we eventually see some episodes leaked due to them airing in other countries that aren't as stupidly uptight as Nick is about airing these? |

The rest, like the Q-Rex Megazord, are still nitpicks in my mind. There is one thing to ignore a glaring issue, ala the terrible editing, but another to question the logistics of the logistics in the first place and complain it doesn't add up. Yes we should expect more, but after Megaforce literally had no script, it was just sentai footage with people shouting over it, I'd take anything that even vaguely resembles a story and set of characters. If you don't want too, FINE, but don't act like there is no story at all as that is a flat out lie in this two parters case. |
Man, the team really need to learn to lower their voices when talking about their ranger activities :lol
The clothes changing bit was awkwardly cliche and the Q-Rex stuff poorly explained (the new look I'm fine with, more the fact they didn't explain why the Green MMPR and White DT keys were relevant), but this has been a solid 2-parter. Orion has a great backstory, a good personality and may actually be able to take this show somewhere. Here's hoping he is to SMF what Antonio was to Samurai. Of course - Antonio alone couldn't save Samurai and Orion inevitably can't save this on his own, but it's hopefully a step in the right direction. Guess we'll find out when? September? :rolleyes |
It seems like the only other person who can act in thi show besides Orion is Jake. I feel he actually can act pretty well.

Only Opinions...
Only opinion follows here.
The "Q-Rex" thing was just them being cute with naming for the whole anniversary thing, but also because Time Force is involved in summoning. The matter is sad and it's painfully obvious most people agree. I have given ideas on how to make it better, but a few more have popped in. Only opinion follows here: - The Q-Rex should have been the "Rescue Rex" - GojyuDrill: Rescue Rex Flyer GojyuRex: Rescue Rex Fury Gojyujin: Rescue Rex Fighter - Part One and Two follow how GokaiSilver was introduced. Switch them. - Have an episode devoted mostly to Orion and how he got his powers. - Basco appears as a displaced king from the future who fought Time Force. - He is also an old apprentice to Broodwing from S.P.D. - A couple of unused of Goseiger and Gokaiger monsters could appear. - Surprise appearance by an Orange-Head Krybot with a Trizirium Crystal. - Outside of MMPR Green, Robo Knight, and Titanium: All-Sixth Rangers. - Orion gains powers and leaves home planet. Part Two is him on Earth. - Rescue Rex is secretly commissioned by Titanium and built by Basco. - It uses the inner core of Serpenterra and is based-off Dinosaurs to match. Only opinion is presented here. |
