But if we're going to get integration with the tv series ala Shield and the Sentai/Rider movie tie in episodes, Nick has to allow 40 episode seasons again. TThere apart of the same company as Lionsgate, so if they want to make bank on the new people coming to the show, they can't confuse the fuck out of them with 20 episode seasons and 6 month breaks. |

I'm... Cautiously optimistic, is one way to describe how I feel. On one hand, a Marvel-esque PG-13 version of Power Rangers that can be actually maturely written, instead of just maybe saying "Damn" and being slightly more violent, sounds like a great idea.
On the other hand, what we're going to get is probably more among the lines of Man of Steel, or The Dark Knight. |
We should bear in mind that on a film budget, theyre not constrained by sentai at all, infact the suits and the megazords would likely be the first things to go if they want to make it appeal to the cinema crowd. I dont want spandex and a guy in a robot suit, I want to see some spectacular Kaiju fights like Pacific Rim or Godzilla.
Plus this isnt necessarily going to be MMPR, that could just be the term theyre using to describe the brand as a whole. Mighty Morphin is a 20 year old term, they would be unlikely to stick it on a film today. Like I said on my earlier post, it makes sense to use the high school teenagers concept then work out from there, but when youre on a 90 minute run time theres a lot to establish, so its unlikely it will relate to existing shows when they reboot every 1-2 years anyway. Done right, this could be an amazing step up for the brand, but I am extremely wary if they tie it to any existing continuity. |
and then... they reveal that the movie will be the adaptation of go-busters
(yes, I know that they say MMPR. I'm only having fun) |
|
You know, after watching pacific rim, i got the feeling that was power rangers on a big budget, thats what i want from a megazord fight. I am cautiously optimistic
Where does this leave the MMPR "fan" film? I havent seen any updates in several months.... |
Fans been wondering how a PR movie will work after the first Transformers movie came out. I'm betting we will likely get a dark MMPR movie similar how Kamen Rider: The First was.

Also if the rangers in this movie are similar to the ones in MMPR, I'm 98% sure the Black Ranger won't be black and the Yellow Ranger won't be Asian. |

I really hope they do some excellent world-building for this. Pacific Rim, for example, had a surprising amount of backstory. Power Rangers is capable of a very, very rich mythology.
|
You know what the re-imagining needs? Spandex references. "Well, at least it's not brightly-colored spandex, am I right?"
|
Michael Bay please! He is good at explosions and robots, two important things in Power Rangers.
I can't see them in spandex, but probably body armor or alien skin to make it more believable. I could see a trilogy happening. The first movie with the 5 Rangers. Second with the Green Ranger story arc, and third with the Lord Zedd story arc. They could go on forever after that like go to space or a new version of Power Rangers like Lightspeed Rescue. I'm hoping we get Figuarts of the Movie Rangers and Legacy versions of the Movie Zords. I guess it will be out in 2016. |
if Micheal Bay comes anywhere near this I'm done. I'm completely done.

It'd be better if this movie was for the Legendary War and not a reboot.
|
So this makes, what, at least five different official universes/ dimensions that exist in Power Rangers now?
The main universe (MMPR - Jungle Fury, Samurai- Dino Supercharge) The RPM dimension (Power Rangers RPM/ Power Rangers: Clash of the Red Rangers) The 1995 Movie universe (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie) The Comic Universe (the MMPR papercutz comics and MAYBE the old comics) And now the new universe (MMPR Reboot movie) |

Just don't make him the director. |
It would be awesome if they went in a more super sentai style.

I'd wager the movie might be CG animated and very kid friendly. If it is, that's gonna suck because then we we'll see some horrible proportions on what should be human beings.
Though if it is live-action, I hope the teen drama shit is cut out of it. Most likely it won't but it'd be nice. I didn't read the entire article, so I don't know if it's already said the movie will for sure be live-action. |

I think the hate for Bay is largely unfounded. Sure he plays loose and fast on the stuff he is adapting, but then neo-Saban can't even be bothered to properly reference and build on their own mythology.
And since we know Bay is competent in making big, fun, crowd pleasing spectacles I think he'd be a great match. Once we've got the crowd hooked, then the franchise can look for a director who is more interested in more story, character driven narratives who can still juggle action like Marc Webb maybe. |

Thats not what people are getting at. Its the Robot Testicle, jerking off gags, peeing on other characters and ripping the enemys face off Part people cringe at when they hear Michael Bay. |
I don't think it will be that hard to make a good Power Rangers movie. The last two movies were bad, but in truth, they were faithful to the their TV counterpart.
I think this movie will be a popcorn movie. |

Yeah :lol The thing with Bay is his Movies look cool but most of the time are offensive as shit. It normaly works since he does R rated movies but it doesnt translate to his PG-13 projects. And I dont know if its worth a pretty movie when we get Ghetto Zack trying to get into Kimberlys Pants (she will be played by megan fox.... Of course) all while trini and Billy play up there stereotypes to unseen proportions. |
If bay was given this we would see high school of modern day we wod have a jock Jason a. Dancing rapper zack full on geek nerd billy a love hot girl Kimberly a geeky Asian trini and rival jock tommy forced to work togather to fight evil
|
But you basically described the cast anyway? Jason was the school bully in MMPR, Billy was the insecure nerd...and one of the strongest on the team? (eh?). Kimberly was 'the girl', Tommy was just Jason in slightly more edgy 90s attire. About the only change you made was Zack and even he was just a racist black stereotype.
You guys act like Bay will ruin these great characters, but MMPRs team was shit anyway. |

Also: Although this is a convo for a different site on a different day, I don't quite understand the Bay hate. I guess it's easy to point the finger at him, but he didn't rape childhoods all by himself. I wish peeps understood this. It's the design team who's created the TF's, the writer/s who wrote a story you didn't like, the casting crew who picked actors you don't like and so on. Bay just directed their movements and occurrences they experience. Bay didn't direct AND write, create from the ground up visuals or cast the movies. |

He's put enough of his influence in Transformers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, we don't Power Rangers in his line of sight next. |
