I haven't seen this at the time of this posting, but I have to ask: What is the point to all of this? I've read the "front page" article here and on another side and I don't get the intention. Is this social commentary over Hollywood and the constant "darkness" and "seriousness" or is it that Power Rangers is darker than it suggests with having a bunch of kids fight an alien threat? That said, if I have time, I'll look. Either way, the ACTUAL reboot movie should not take an ultra-dark tone at all. Power Rangers is an animal unto itself and should not be viewed in the same "real world" aspect as other franchises. If one wants to make it more "adult", look at R-Rated films only as a source of inspiration. The reboot should be no more than a kid-friendly "Pulp Fiction". The violence doesn't need to follow the flash and flair of Micheal Bay and HIS Transformers movies, nor should it have all of the harsh language or adult situations of Tarantino; keep such matters to a minimum at best. As for fan films, other people wanting to do their own interpretation (S.P.D. Green's old idea?) should have a chance to express if nothing else. Whether the brand owner agrees or not is another matter.

*applauds* Awesome response man. |
I wouldnt mind if this somehow got a Bluray release... i have a shelf full of bad action movies that i want this to join.
|
No, this is Starship Troopers with special edition Power Ranger costumes.
|
After 3 minutes, I had to turn it off. This is utter garbage. Whoever thought this was a good idea should go to hell. I'm all for an adult Power Rangers, but dark and gritty has never equaled adult.
If nothing else, it should serve as an example. An example of what NOT to do. Quote:

The Know did a story on it now. I knew when Den posted about him saying it's like him drawing a picture on a napkin.. and somehow it's even bigger BS seeing it written down.

Yet you just know that if somebody were to release a grimdark and gritty "parody" of Lazer Team tomorrow, they'd be pissed as fuck. |

The popular Youtube critic Jeremy Jahns seems to love the fan film.

I actually really like the gurs work but his views on this thing are just not something I can agree with at all.
|
...Please tell me people aren't simply praising this because it's "dark".

The explanation was clear and helpful, sure. |

Nintendo's LP claims are bullocks anyways, but Roosterteeth doesn't play any Nintendo games anyway. Quote:
Seems like there are various camps in this issue. People who like it and people who don't like, subdivisions who thought it was funny or not, a subdivisions of that where you were a hardcore fan or not. Just a whole mess. And for once, I am actually siding with JDF's opinion a little bit . |

I finally got around to watching this today and on a surface level I thought the story part wasn't really that bad. It was a pretty interesting revenge story involving Rita. However, the way things played out and the direction that director went was where I didn't agree. I definitely think JDF said it best, and I completely agree with what he said.
My only other thought was that Zack is the man for getting both Scorpina and Divatox at the same time. At the time I didn't realize what was happening in that scene, but the end credits definitely helped enlighten everything. |
Production values were amazing. It was really well-done. However, tonally, it felt way off. If you took the PR suits out of it, it would feel more like Expendables or something, not Power Rangers. I also didn't find it very entertaining, and I really hated the opening shot (with the rangers shooting the guns into the sky.)
I still want a Power Rangers movie that's similar to Pacific Rim. |

And now it's back for good with Saban's consent, both regular and nsfw versions:

There are two versions?

I have to say, I really, really don't like that director's attitude.

The production values were amazing, BUT a lot of the fun in tokusatsu is the campiness and the fun, and when you take that away...well...it doesn't work. Just look at Kamen Rider Shin.

Anyways just watched it and lost 15 minutes of my life and brain cells died. I should go watch Kamen Rider G again for a better use of my 15 minutes or almost anything better. It was too dark I could barely see anything, and they barely knew the characters. It was just so bad that I can't even put it into words how much I hate, disliked, and want Rider Kick it into oblivion.

Well, Kahn did an AMA on reddit. There are some interesting things about the production but bear in mind that he is still being infuriating about the negative responses and almost everyone asking questions agrees with him, so you might not want to look if you already found him annoying. He does outright state at one point that he doesn't actually like Power Rangers, which I think sums up this video perfectly.
|
okay so, he admits he doesn't even like Power Rangers, and yet people still defend him and let him say shit like "this is what the power rangers fans deserve!"
this guy is a chode. |
Can we please stop calling this thing a damn Fan Film now?

Austin St. John added his two cents to the movie. Professionally.
