I thought Big Bang Theory was nice for a quick chuckle.
Mainly because I've been in so many fandoms a lot of the jokes I can pick up on quickly.

Anyway, I don't like Zach's new character. He seems like he'd be a super interesting character in a 20 episode series, but for a movie that probably won't break 2 hours, it seems kind of pointless. Most likely, he'll come off as douchey.

Its the logical way to go. You need to establish the core team and the idea of what the Power Rangers are in the first movie before you can go and introduce a Ranger that goes against everything the Team should stand for.

And I really hope that when he appears in one of the movies they write him better than the actual show. Have him be a nice guy to the rangers and just be evil when transformed or when hes together with Rita. It always bothered me that he was always an ass to the rangers and they never picked up on him suddenly acting that way.

That's what worries me. I fear the producers will be like "Well we want the cast to be teenagers and the generation of teens love the stuff on MTV. So let's copy on what we will see is popular on MTV these days".

If they go that route, then go with the new Scream series. Even some horror fans are a little surprised by it. I'm not saying that such a formula will float everyone's boat, but it might be just tolerable enough.

There isn't too much to worry about. If the movie fails, it won't touch the TV series, which so far, remains the core of the franchise.

I'm going to guess maybe Kimberly's issue they have in the description is maybe like her TV show counterpart, her parents divorce maybe.

I can't imagine rape would be allowed in a Power Ranger movie. But maybe she stops going to school because her family is breaking up and she shuts herself away for months maybe and out of anger and frustration and then is made to finally go back.

Just my thoughts.

I'm surprised Jason has no mention of martial arts. That was more of the thing Jason was known for was being a martial artist in his time off from school.

Reading that character summary was like, woah, that is way too real, man.

I would imagine SDCC 2016 will have a panel and a possible trailer for the movie. SDCC 2016 will likely when Lionsgate will hype up the movie. Power Morphicon 2016 will likely have a lot of hype going for the movie as well.

I think its very likely there will be a trailer at SDCC. As a comparison, the Deadpool movie comes out in February 2016 and they got their trailer in August 2015. So six months before the release date. If Power Rangers follow a similar time frame then the trailer will come out in July.

I'm guessing Lionsgate will reveal the suits of the Rangers and villians through posters in February or March.

SDCC 2016 is going to be huge with Justice League, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Star Wars: Episode VIII, Wonder Woman, Spider-Man, Thor 3 and Power Rangers. I hope Power Rangers will get a good amount of buzz at SDCC 2016.

General consensus among the Internet - if Pacific Rim can't make it, can Power Rangers movie?

Maybe. Pacific Rim had no nostalgia factor backing it up. Look at Transformers and TMNT, if the nostalgia factor can give those movies sequels, I have a good feeling Power Rangers can at least get one sequel. Will they be good and successful? I fear not.

Power Rangers is a way bigger brand name compare to Pacific Rim. Pacific Rim was a original film that was inspire by classic 70's mecha anime while PR has a lot of nostalgia value to it like Uchibabro77 said. Not to mention the PR movie will likely do well in Asian countries like China and South Korea (PR is a popular brand name over there as well). So at least it will likely do well in overseas even if the movie flops in the US.

Yeah, comparing PR to... PR is a very superficial one. The Rangers can at least appeal to that nostalgia audience, and they're also superheroes which are a big thing, too.

Oh trust me I know Lionsgate is licking their lips at the potential income from an international release. But Power Rangers is a tough nostalgia sell because it's really never gone away ... the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers are the nostalgia ticket, but whether or not they cash it in appropriately or just by making something "that resembles the original sort of kind of in a way" is another.

Neither has Transformers or Ninja Turtles, or Star Wars since the prequels.

Power Rangers is a little different in that it's two genres in one. The big mecha/kaiju part, perhaps, is a tougher sell (though Godzilla shows it is possible). But it can also make use of its superhero component, which should take up the bulk of the movie anyway. The superhero genre is still going strong, and if Power Rangers can set itself up as "superhero but a little different" as compared to say, the Marvel Universe, they may be able to attract a modest market.

Well, ol' Zilla also has brand recognition that a new IP like Pacific Rim doesn't, what with him being named "Honorary Cultural Ambassador of Japan" and all.

The biggest issue with the upcoming PR movie to me is the January release. Movies release in January are never blockbusters expect for Cloverfield and a few others. If you make a movie with a big brand name that will have a big budget and you want it out in January. That's why I was hoping for a April or August release for the movie.

I just figured they aimed for a January release to avoid a lot of strong competition.
I don't know what's coming in 2017, but I guess they want to play things super safe.
Not the smartest move, but...Eh.
