Toei will register the trademark for the next series in September, and that information will be made public sometime between late September and late October.

At this point, the most anyone who's leaking rumors has been exposed to is early concept sketches and second-hand hearsay from people close to Toei/Bandai.

Most Recent Example: just before KR Ghost's title was announced, the rumor was that it would be "street" fashion based. Obviously Ghost is not fashion based -- but, there was a kernel of truth in those rumors... Ghost's forms are definitely "street-fashion" inspired.

Most Recent Sentai Example: just before Ninninger was announced, Orends:Range reported rumors that it would be bird-based. That turned out to be completely false.

Second Most Recent Sentai Example: at this time in 2013, Dukemon put forth the rumor that 2014's series would be called Senkan Sentai Gounova (Battleship Sentai Gounova). The actual series was Ressha Sentai ToQger.

So... Yeah... We'll get more info about the title in the next couple weeks, but rumors -- while sometimes containing a kernel of truth -- are more often gunshots in the dark.

I would like to see this happen.

You're about the Sentai show runners wanting to drum up viewership again, but can they do that?

I'm thinking either new blood HAS to be brought in or take a break after the 40th because at this point if the new shows are Ninninger in quality then BoJ is just wasting money.

The 40th could be a return of the first shows' formula or they might end up trying to do another Carranger type of show. Whatever they decide to do it has to be better than Ninninger because that show ended up as a colossal misfire.

Except they are not if shows still keep being huge hits with kids and them buying the toys. Sure, what the quality of the shows are is a different thing but at this point the toyline is the thing that keeps brining in the most money. So as long as the numbers are right they dont have to reconsider anything.

Nah, not really. Carranger is pretty unique and I thing we won't have a show like that anytime soon.
There is no need for another Carranger anyway. The franchise is slowly recovering from what happened with Go-Busters and I think for now, Toei will stick with that style. They might go with something more experimental after the anniversary, I guess.

Sorry, I really don't agree. I see Ninnin especially aspiring to capture the same sense of humor and energy as Carranger. Lynxara has pointed out a few times that Kento Shimoyama is a protege of Yoshio Urasawa's. The similarities in approach and sensibility are, IMO, very clear. The Ninnin episode where they all turn into toys plays to me as a watered down Carranger story.

And the first few episodes of ToQ were going after the same self-referential humor and 4th-wall-breaking as Car. Early in it's broadcast, I remember a lot of people on the boards and Twitter talking about how ToQ was the second coming of Carranger, and now that I've seen enough Carranger to have an opinion, I can definitely see what they were talking about. Obviously that show evolved into something pretty different, but they started out from similar places, as far as its lighthearted tone and comedic approach goes.

I think that Carranger does this type of over-the-top, self-referential humor way better... but I definitely think Toei has been trying to make the Carranger format work for them for the last two years.

I can see where you might come from but cannot fully agree with the notion that ToQ and Ninnin are attempts at doing a second Carranger. Its true that Sentai likes to reuse elements of Carranger but thats something they are doing since Megaranger. Mega was an attempt at doing Carranger straight.

What makes Carranger so unique is how deadpan and dry the humor in that show can be and is much more than just being self aware or making fun of some tropes. And thats something I dont see in either ToQ or Ninnin at all.

I just want a full time female Red or an all 6th member cast. And I may be kidding on just the latter.

Another space venture would be nice. But it's really hard to top GoKaiger's homages.

I think we're more or less on the same page, I just think I'm looking at it from a more zoomed-out perspective. What I guess I'm ultimately commenting on is the profound influence Carranger has had on the franchise and how Toei has been struggling to capture what made Car work, in some way or another, for the last 19 years.

I'm of the mind that Carranger is the first of the "modern" sentai, and every show that's followed has incorporated fundamental elements of it. So when I say ToQ and Ninnin are attempts to replicate the Carranger format, I mean that they're like the 9th or 10th attempts to do it -- not second.

I see Carranger's fingerprints on every single Sentai that's come after it, not just the comedy-focused ones. It's stuff like the character-focus at the expense of overarching plot. These are the kind of similarities I'm talking about, that both ToQ and Ninnin, in particular, share with Car.

Totally agree, and that's why I said Carranger does it better -- that show understands deadpan delivery and the humor is more sophisticated (maybe owing to the fact that it was still being broadcast in prime time, as opposed to the Sunday morning kids block Sentai migrated to during Megaranger). But successful or not, I think there's effort being made to make these shows tonally a lot like Carranger. Which makes a lot of sense to me... As Sentai's ratings have fallen, why not try what worked the last time they plunged like this?

You guys want see a comedy sentai over and over again.

To me, a Carranger-type show has...

Heavy emphasis on slapstick comedy.
A strong character-focus.
Little overarching plot.
A sense of self-awareness regarding its ridiculousness.
Utter sincerity and no cynicism.
Nonthreatening villains.
Little adherence to logic.
A strong emotional core.

Actually SL, I'm the kind of person that loves a balanced mix between comedy/humor and serious action.

Ah....well in that case, I'm definitely NOT a carranger-like sentai kind of guy. My villains have to be threatening. If not obviously, then the creepy kind that you can tell something is up.

Mind you, I'm only 25 episodes into Carranger. The villains are definitely played for comedy so far, but that could always change.

What I still think is the biggest strength of Carranger in regards to anything really is that the show never takes itself seriously and at the same time everyone in the show takes everything completely seriously.

The Bowzock are not evil they are just some idiots that wanna impress a women. But the characters in the show still see them as a real threat just like any other Sentai do. The show never stops and have the characters spell out that the villains are complete morons.

The key that many parodies seem to miss, not just Sentai, but in general.
To be a parody doesn't always need jobbing in front of a camera...

You're right about that. It did have those Diesel ressha parts in between his arms and torso. It would be interesting to see what next year's sentai will have.

Doubutsu Sentai Jyuuouger. And it'll be an animal theme.
