It's a shame the runtime went down for this episode, hopefully it doesn't go any lower.
Episode 3 was alright, but I feel the whole scene at the conference ended pretty...not? Like, it didn't have a lot of payoff. Big speech from Haruka and the mom's just like "yeah yeah ok just go with the exterminators now k" and he just...does, because reasons? I dunno, it felt a little forced. Other than that, good. |
Another good episode, although the most interesting part continues in the next one... ugh. But hey, Dr. Maki is back!
Also, I'm asking myself the question if this is a reboot/reimagining or an actual sequel to Amazon. Because so far there hasn't been any indicator to that, we don't know where the Amazon cells come from. They could literally have Daisuke strapped in the basement of their company and extract the cells from him or something like that. Although we never had any mention of anything from the old show and every monster here is an Amazon so… seems more like a reboot. Quote:
But it certainly isn’t that noticeable to me, I can ignore Haruka being stupid like I can ignore every other Rider being stupid. I do hate it when they never explain anything until much later though, so the next time Haruka and his Mom meet they better not do the same thing again. |
episode 3 was sort of interesting. Found out Jin used to work used to work for the company that let the Amazons escape, but I'm sure more than a few watching already guessed that. Still no idea how he got the belts. Since the bike they eventually revealed was in his colors I wonder if he was originally supposed to work with them and the exterminators and went "Fuck it, I'm not being used" and left. Speaking of being used not sure if that was the plan "mom" had for Haruka all along or if she's really fast at thinking on her feet. But it does look like she has a rival now. And I'm still hoping somebody punches the "snobby" guy in the face before the series is over. Although when exactly did the exterminator captain realize there was a bug on top of the van?

I am increasingly convinced that Haruka is the major weak spot in this show. I get that we're supposed to be really invested in his struggles with his identity, but the actor they cast is so totally void of charisma that I just cannot bring myself to care about him. Even the big confrontation scene with his mother was still him just standing there and whining. It wasn't even entertaining whining. Considering this is supposed to be one of the main protagonists, the show is really dropping the ball here.
That said, the rest continues to impress me. Jin continues to be far more interesting and entertaining than Haruka and the extermination team continues to have the best storyline. I'm actually really disappointed that this episode was so short since it ended at such a great cliffhanger and I don't want to have to wait to see what comes next. Last major observations: I really liked the incidental music that played when the bike was revealed. Also, the mom's corporate rival is Doctor Maki. Always great to see that actor again. |
Today's episode was pretty nice, actually having the ant colony fight take up basically the whole episode. Was surprised they showed two new finishers today, though they feel more like something Kamen Rider X would have, than someone based off of Amazon's powers. Wonder if that last surviving newbie will join the Extermination team.

Bah Gawd! I never see a monster kill a human like this before!
So many swear word! Like F words and all those words! No wonder why this one is a web show and not a television show! Original Amazon don't have so many swear word like these! I should give Kamen Rider Amazons a R-RATED! So Dr. Maki is now working for Nozama Company? I wonder if Kamen Rider Amazons take place in alternate universe where Kamen Riders Don't Exist like Shocker don't existed in their world and this and that! The Music seem too sad all the time! Where's a happy music?! I want Super Sentai's Super Hero Year Project NOW!!! |
There's no real "actual" swearing in Amazons, mostly because Japanese doesn't really do swears like some Western languages do. It's not inaccurate, exactly, but it's still mostly the translators embellishing.

I'd be down with a Liveman new show, if only because what I hear about it's plot sounds interesting (evil professor who grades his subordinates until they get a low enough score and are to be executed), and I'm always a sucker for a team with two separate Megazords/Gattais that then combine into a bigger one. |

I don't think we will get a big Sentai anniversary theme for a while since Gokaiger is still rather recent. Maybe for the 45th or 50th anniversary.

caught up, and all I can say is WIN on this series...

Wow. So much Haruka hate in here. I personally love the character, way more than Jin.
Being subdued and obedient is part of his character, it's actually been addressed. I think as time goes on he'll start to question the woman he calls mother. But for now, she's the only one (with maybe the exception of Jin) who knows what's going on with him. I see him playing the obeying puppy until he learns the truth and then shit will inevitably go down. |
I prefer Haruka over Jin also. Something about Jin just makes me not like him. I like Haruka's kind personality.
|
Until Haruka slices you in half lol...now I do love Omega's fighting stance. I cannot wait for the Figuarts.
|
So this was pointed out somewhere else but I forgot about it, but there's definitely something very interesting going on with the episode titles so far. Check it.
AMAZONZ BEAST INSIDE COLONY OF ANTS DIE OR KILL EYES IN THE DARK FOR WHAT I FIGHT GAME OF THE BUTCHERS (the last 2 are on wikia but i can't find a source, so shrug, leaving them just in case) It sure looks like we're getting an alphabet up in here. Buuut we only have 13 episodes, and 26 letters...could a second season be in the cards? The possibility seems to be there. We shall see I guess. |

Also because it's a pretty good show so far and getting 13 episodes extra sounds pretty good. |
Two episodes in, and I still don't believe in Amazon, yet. They could've condensed the first two down to one episode without losing anything. I don't care about any of the characters, and after two episodes, that's a problem. The show seems like very much a style exercise. There's a lot of darkness for the sake of darkness. I'm confounded by the monster designs; they just don't seem to match the tone the show is going for.
I can enjoy dark television, but the writing has to make me care. I really want this show to get better. So far, I like the idea of the show significantly more than its execution. |
Episode 4 was a relative gore fest, bur as i understand it the original Amazon had it's bloody moments too so it's keeping in touch with it's roots i suppose. I am not that surprised Nozama apparently had Jin's number, although I was thinking that ending with Jin would happen a little later though. But with 13 eps I guess it makes sense. Although I do have to admit part of why I'm enjoying the show so far is the differences in the "domesticated" Amazons like Hakura and Momaru and the "wild" ones like Jin. I mean Momaru almost seems dog loyal in this one. and in the previous episode when Hakura was demanding answers the moment "mom" gives him something that looks like the proverbial bone he's off doing what she wants him to do. Then you have jin who;s got the whole "F it I'm going what I want because I can" attitude going one.

Okay, so first things first: I am totally over Haruka's sister. She was a complete waste of space in this episode.
Second, everything else was freaking fantastic. This episode had great tension with the slow climb up the building and the unending waves of Ant Amazons (Antmazons?). The action direction was also fantastic - you really felt the claustrophobia inside the halls and the battle on the rooftop was great. Haruka is finally starting to click for me and I'm actually interested to see how he develops from here. He's starting to be more active and less whiny, which makes him a more engaging character and simultaneously frightening as all hell in battle. We're finally get some of that brutal violence that I expected from a show based on Amazon and I'm actually curious to see how Haruka processes it. |
Episode 4 is subbed. Discuss everyone!
|
I think Haruka bonding with Mamoru and wanting to act more like him (the domesticated Amazon) was cute, and having two whole finishers used (though I'm surprised the whip finisher is still Violent Punish) was nice, though I get the feeling the electric rounds aren't doing as much as they used to.
|
Holy crap this episode was awesome. I loved how the action felt claustrophobic and how brutal haruka was. I do wish there was more red Amazon though because he's my favorite
|
Omega used a "violent break" special twice - he pulled out a spear and gored like three ants, then a grappling hook used to pull down the queen. Both times he pulled the right handle out of the driver on his waist
How's the handle getting "reloaded"? Is this like "subspace" and Optimus Prime's trailer? |
Amazon cells. That's gonna be the catch all reason for everything in this show.
PS that scene was Garo levels badass, so physics stopped mattering at that point. |
Pretty cool episode. The part with the exterminators fighting their way up the apartment complex was very well done, I got a Resident Evil kinda vibe from it when you fight your way through the mansion full of zombies, I liked that a lot.
Omega was badass at the end, I forgot he had the ability to create weapons even though we saw the spear in a promo and the toy comes with an attachment which simulates this, but I like how he rips it out of the driver and it looks really nasty, in a good way. It's kind of a shame that while Alpha had a lot of badassery going on he never used a finisher yet. Judging from the toy belt he has an old-school Amazon chop/slash, looking forward to seeing that one. And while I really tried not to get attached to Mamoru too much, I know he will go berserk sooner than later and Haruka will have to deal with him, I failed miserably at that once he stayed back to protect Nozomi. The episode where Mamoru and Haruka fight will come and it will hit me right in the feels. Crap. Anyways, I’m looking forward to the next episode! Quote:

Keep in mind, it could be Haruka who puts Mamoru down. Or it could be Jin. If it's Jin, which honestly I rather see, it would create more conflict between Alpha and Omega. Keeping with Haruka's wishing to be human as possible, he could very well rather find some way to help Mamoru instead of just ending his life. Whereas Jin...would have no qualms about it.
I do find it interesting that Jin seems to have this protectiveness over Haruka. It could be as simple as he feels sorry for the other, it could be something more. Who knows. With such small amount of episodes planned, it's difficult to say where they can take all these loose ends and possible scenarios. I could see Haruka and Mamoru battling it out just because it would be the easiest in terms of story telling within a short series. |
Yeah it could be Jin, but I think they build up Haruka’s attachment to Mamoru on purpose just so that they can farm the drama later when Haruka needs to kill Mamoru. Feels like something a Rider show would do to me.
|
There would still be drama if Jin did it. And more conflict between the two main characters. In terms of storytelling, Jin ending Mamoru is the better angle.

Ok, some REALLY awesome spots here...I like the "Game Over Man" reference, very Aliens vibe from this episode. The Violent Punish...ok that reminded me of Kamen Rider X, but in a muuuuuch more brutal way. And I have to agree with the Garo level of badassery here.

So, episodes 2 and 3 thoughts:

Mamoru wears an armlet and the eyes are blue, so he still gets medicine and it still keeps his Amazon cells in check. Of course not all Amazon go crazy when they don’t take medicine, Jin can control his Amazon side and he isn’t wearing an armlet. |

Man, each episode is just shorter than the last. It's been kind of marginal for the last three episodes, but it's still lower. Really hope the trend stops.
Good episode though. Haruka is finding his way, some intriguing shenanigans with the Amazons of the week...not a lot of Jin this ep tho. |
I liked this episode, even if it still insists on trying to make Haruka's sister a thing. Haruka is continuing to develop as a character and the plot in general is moving along nicely. I really loved the plot with the bus. That is such a classic Showa Rider set-up: bus full of passengers goes into a tunnel, comes out the other side empty. I forget which early Rider show did that (I'm sure it was either X or Stronger - possibly both, actually), but I know I've seen it before.

I liked the episode, but I kinda fear that I know what this is building up to: Haruka has to transform in front of his sister who then gets afraid of him and the awkwardness of him trying to tell her that he isn't a monster even though he kinda is follows suit. That's a plot I have seen a dozen times in Rider already. But maybe they can make this more interesting. Or just make Haruka's sister a bit more understanding than the usual female secondary characters. I'm interested to see how this goes, and also how the subplot with Jin moves forward. The teaser for the next episode casually dropped that he became an Amazon by choice... interesting. |
Episode 5 has been subbed. Discuss away.
|
I've notice Haruka's Amazon form transformation says evolution but Jin's doesn't. Do you think we could get Alpha evolution later on in the show?
