Nah, all this stuff will be done with by the end of the year. At least, the corresponding toys will. (Not sure if actual spoiler? It's all catalog stuff really but who knows). |
Well well, I gotta say, very interesting first impressions. Pretty solid first Episode. I couldn't help but LOL all throughout this Episode at just how much this show has ABSOLUTELY NO CHILL with the videogame motif it has. Heck, even the sponsor break shows off Mighty Action X being played by Ex-Aid Lv. 1!!!
Making this show centered around doctors really gives it an interesting, unique vibe. Seriously, there are barely any toku shows that delve into something like this, and I like it!!! I know alot of people are saying they're getting Gaim vibes from this, and so am I, but I'm feeling like this will more than likely become a story of its own. Now, if there's ONE thing I have to complain about the Episode.....it was the first fight w/ Lv. 1 vs the CG Dinkleberry Bugstar. I always figured Lv. 1 would mostly have CG fights, but THIS....Ehhh....I will say though, this clears an issue I had with Ex-Aid's cameo in Ghost. Now we know where the random boxes come from, and it makes TOTAL SENSE now: it's part of the Mighty Action X game, and when activating the Gashat, it's pretty much playing that game. Now, the Lv. 2 action was where it was at! I loved his hammer action, and honestly, I wish that was the main way he used the Gashacon Breaker, since Brave is gonna be the sword user later on. And I really like how after Ex-Aid wins, the Gamer Driver declares that he "cleared the game." I'm really curious as to how him beating all 10 of those other games works, since some will be used by other Riders. The main protagonist Emu seems standard-ish, but I like that he's a klutz at everything but gaming. Hopefully he shows to have some character development later on. Two things that caught my eye in this Episode, though, that could mean potential things for the way the show might go: 1. The Gamer Driver developer claims that a tragedy occurred 5 years ago.....which matches the announcement date of Mighty Action X....HMM..... 2. Speaking of the development of Mighty Action X, did anyone other than me notice the logo for the people that developed it? "GENM Corporation?" HMMMMMM......Kamen Rider Genm is most definitely working with these guys. Either it's the Graphite Bugstar, or Kuroto Dan, the company's president. This show shows a lot of promise, and I can't wait to see how it shapes up. |
I'm going to watch it again tomorrow and do a video review on it, but here are my initial impresions:
So this is what Scott Pilgrim would be like as a Kamen Rider. Every scene that dealt with the human stuff sucked. The slapstick was unfunny and this guy is way too young to be a doctor. The monster being a pile of shit was exactly how I would describe this episode. Horrible CGI. They really just need to stick with suits and real stunt work until they can actually afford proper CGI. On the other hand, the stuff when he transformed was kind of cool as it did make me think of No More Heroes and a bit of MegaMan. The girl is super annoying and the other doctor dude has really creepy eyes. |

Edit: Oh nevermind, I guess he is supposed to be. I hadn't watched it fully subtitled yet; was just going off the pre-show info we had heard. Ignore me. |
Emu is an intern which makes a LOT more sense if age is an issue
My first impressions: I'm hooked. We already know a lot about Emu's personality. If his clumsiness is the 'lolrandomhumour' like Onari's excessive screaming was, then I'm glad because I'm also clumsy so it's pretty nice to see the main character is a goof. He's also good with kids and it's actually very sweet how he told that kid that Mighty is simply fighting the final boss in his body, which again shows he knows how to connect with kids. The debut fight? Outstanding, the only thing I didn't like was how Level 1 has official stats that are higher than Level 2, Masked reference aside. I like the shitty CGI blob monster, because FUCKING YELLOW DEVIL DOESN'T DESERVE A DECENT DESIGN. The best of all: The Buttobasoul coins looked to me like they would be shoved in our faces like Shift Cars and Eyecons, but no, only 1 and it didn't get that much spotlight. Phenomenal first episode |

But yea, a pretty solid first episode! Hopefully the series will keep up with the effects this time unlike past seasons. Who knows, maybe the fact that they're using "KAPOW!" effects instead of spark powder will save some money. Also, I don't really mind the CGI Level 1 Bugster, since I kinda expected the Level 1 ones to be relatively simple (so that they can save money on that). |
Saw it, loved it. Pray to god the budget holds up. The idea that the driver generates the levels is genius and when he blew in the cartridge before the finisher..... I loved it (even more so that it was done by the actor on his own and the production team just went with it). I always find it nice to have a Kamen rider who kicks butt right from the start instead of doing a OOO's, the fact that since the main rider IS a video game character that our hero is familiar with really helps me settle in with the whole concept. Can't wait for next week!

No video, no subtitles, just a black screen with Japanese audio. Excite subs are a complete disappointment. Please inform me when someone more capable comes along.

So I guess just their HDs in particular don't work.

He's 24 years old and works as a Paediatric Intern at a University Hospital. He's exactly the right age. Quote:

Yea, Emu is the right age. I see intern's at my hospital around his age all the time.
Also, if you are having issues with Excite's torrent, have you tried the VCL player? That's what I had to use, as well as for OT's stuff. |
Okay I freaking loved this first episode. Emu continued being the awesome character that he was from Ghost. His clumsiness and awesome gamer skills made him really relatable to me, he's my next Kamen Rider Spirit Animal. God, I am so freaking EX-CITED for this show after this episode. I love the video game aspect of this and had a feeling Emu was Genius Gamer M because I figured M pronounced in Japanese would be Emu lol. I loved Emu's personality and how he wants to change fate and protect people. It reminded me of how Drive began a bit and that was a good thing. I enjoyed Emu helping Souta and how he ended becoming Ex-Aid. Ex-Aid is a total badass and I just love how he moves like a video game character. I loved all the crazy special effects too. Also the appearances of the other Riders at the end was a nice touch. I can't wait to see Genm come in because I am intrigued with his story. Oh also loved the small Kamen Rider X reference when he says Dai Henshin, which X used to say to transform in the second half of his series. The Bugsters are an intriguing villain and I like how they come from infected humans too. Very amazing start and I can't wait to see how this goes.

Either way, it doesn't matter because he is an utter moron. I guess the only positive is he already has more personality than Ghost. Quote:

Castellan Zilla works in a hospital and has said that's the case. I also work in a hospital and know that's the case. You on the other hand don't, and so don't have a clue what you're talking about. |
I used to have student dentists work on my teeth as a kid - it was cheaper and a "real" dentist would be on site should an emergency occur. Never did.

Oh well, it doesn't matter. I'm going to be watching the episode a second time away, so I'll keep an eye on them saying that then. I was more focused and shocked on how unfunny and bad the first half of the episode was. |

He isn't unsupervised though. The one scene where he's doing legitimate practising there's a nurse and an older doctor in the room with him.

Oh man, I enjoyed this. The humor worked for me. Even if it's the same slapstick we've been receiving since Den-O, at least the characters are actually in funny situations and not just making dumb, goofy faces like Onari.
I like the main character well enough. The action was insane. I loved it. The giant CGI monster...yeah I could have done without. So far, so good, but I'm still cautious since I liked the first episode of Ghost too. |
Am I the only one who see's the video game setting as a better justification for the terrible CG monsters than Kamen Rider has ever had?
I mean, come on, they're digital monstrosities manifested in reality. It kind of makes sense on some level that their initial forms would be a poor simulation of realism. In that regard, the blatant use of computer effects didn't bother me so much. |
You know, I was thinking. Since Emu is a Pediatrician, will that mean the "Victim of the Week" will have a likely chance of being a kid?

OMG! This thread got more people than Drive, Ghost and even Zyuohger! OMG! Ex-Aid might be Gaim of 2016-2017!
I guess we don't have to deal with the whole Asuna Karino/Poppi thing because Asuna confirmed in this episode that SHE IS ACTUALLY VIDEO GAME CHARACTER NAMED POPPI!!!! I guess Writer thought this revelation is too obviously to be a story arc. Anyway, So It been 5 years since a tragedy? I wonder why? I wonder if Doctor from Emu's flashback playing a major role in later episodes because they hiding his face! Why they hid his face? A major role? I think Ex-Aid will be darker than Ghost. Ghost wasn't a dark show because they got over-the-top character like Onari and they don't have EVIL Rider! Maybe they probably stop using Level 1 Suit in later episodes because that monster was CGI and Toei don't want to spend their money on CGI. I am hopefully that they don't use that 2-Part Episode arc for this one because it doesn't work for a multiple rider show! They don't need to stretch the whole episode into 2 part! No 2-Part episodes for me! I like the opening because it's NOT another big battle or a villain introduction. It just a very simple opening Edgar Wright would be pleased with this one! JewWario would love to watch this but he's passed away :( |

Seriously, I wanna just enjoy the ride with everyone but the atmosphere of Ghost->Ex-Aid is freakishly similar to that of Wizard->Gaim and part of me is super paranoid about it. This didn't exactly end well for me last time. I guess worst case scenario the lack of Urobuchi means at least I won't have to deal with Madoka fans insisting it's the most transcendent, original show ever, right? Am I coming off too bitter? |

Switchblade should be pleased with this one because NO ONARI!! I think they kindly tone down the comic relief character.
The director/Brave's father and Poppi are kindly comic relief but NOT MUCH AS ONARI |

Maybe it will be abysmal to an extreme that only you could love. And it could be yours, all yours. You and your one and only, sweet, sweet, misunderstood Ex-Aid... no one knows you like your Fishypoo...:p |
