Well the combiner picture definitely looks better, but over all, I don't think I exactly hate this? I dunno I'm going to have to wait to see it in the film before I have a solid opinion.
|
If this was the new Ryukendo
But as the new Dino Megazord? ...I just... yeah this is... *cups mouth with hand and tries to not cry* YOU MANIACS!!! Individually I do like the design but this just feels too much of a deviation for a first movie. If this was a revived megazord for the third movie maybe okay but to do this from the get-go I think it is a bad decision. |
Okay so.
This fits with the look and feel that the movie is going for. Take Pacific Rim, mix in some Transformers, and throw in a dash of MMPR, and this is what you get. That being said, and with that thinking in mind, I like it. The head is something I really, really like to be honest. Don't know if I'll be purchasing it on first sight - may take a kickass movie to push me over the edge - but it's definitely something I'll keep an eye out for. The combining one, that is :) |
What piece of crap it looks like half of a transformer and maginzer robot lump together and you get this shit.
Sadly I have no hype for this movie after seeing the zords combine. https://i.reddituploads.com/bcfb46e9...h=1536&w=1536& |

Sorry not sorry |
That combining Megazord actually looks pretty alright? I like it.
This interactive Megazord though, nah thanks. |

If people end up loving it and it does well, good for them and good for the producers of this movie for correctly reading what they felt the general public wanted to see. I am not trying to dissuade or encourage anyone to feel or like what they do. If I don't like it, I don't like it...but I really do not care if what others feel. It's not my place to tell them they are wrong for liking what they like. If I end up not enjoying it and it does well enough to get a second movie however. I'll likely not bother with it. Just like I did after the second transformers movie completely turned me off from wantkng to bother with those movies. |
Like with practically every reveal surrounding this movie, I think there's a lot of overreaction. It isn't what I expected and it certainly doesn't look much like what we expect a Megazord to look like, but... It's not terrible? If we disregard our preconception of what a Megazord is supposed to look like and sort of accept this as a redefinition of the concept, then I think it's an okay robot design; I don't see the big deal. Kind of looks vaguely Ultraman-y to me.
My guess is that, in the movie, the Dinozords transform into core pieces of the body and then they are kind of "sewn" together with the chainmail portions developing between them via magical alien goop-tech. Just like how the Ranger suit materializes around Tommy in the trailer. I kind of like that idea in a way, and I guess my biggest problem with the concept is that there is legitimately ZERO consideration for making a good transforming toy out of it. Oh well. Just like with the individual T-Rex zord, I think it'll look WAY better in the actual movie. |

We can't look at this thing through the lens of 1993 because we will be let down. Looking at this as its own thing I can appreciate what it is. Now I'm not saying anyone has to like it, but saying you don't because it's not like the '93 version is kinda crazy. We knew this wasn't going to be anywhere near MMPR. |

I don't like it personally, but it defiantly looks the part and will fit right in to what they are going for form what we have seen of the cgi zords. |
You call that a Megazord? That can't be.

At the end of the day, this thing is ugly. I'm going to make fun of it with Gimp.

...wait a minute but doesn't that mean... |
After seeing the picture of the combined toy, I definitely prefer that one to the interactive figure. I'm trying to keep optimistic about this movie, but they're not making it easy.
|
The interactive toy actually looks pretty cool, imo. Definitely looks like it's a lot more like what we'll see in the movie itself. Also makes me glad I wasn't on the team that had to try and figure out how to make a morphing set of zords turn into it.
It's definitely not what I was expecting, but I dig the design. Looks like Pacific Rim might have had some influence on it. Also very much looks like something I could see in an anime. I'll still definitely be passing on the big, morphing Megazord, but I might consider getting the interactive version. Though I wonder what the mention of the five rangers means. Does it also come with minifigures of them? |

Hey, when did these giant robots become angels?
Like, does no-one else see that this thing is blatantly trying to be a giant angel? It's got the wings 'n armor 'n wotnot. And I legitimately do not see how this is going to transform, by the way. It's got nothing in the way of kibble. You don't even have the animal heads sticking off somewhere. But I do know that it is another totem-pole-robo. It has a pink head, read shoulders, yellow belly (now that's blatant!), black waist/thighs, and blue shins and feet. Stack it up, knock it down. I think it's a cool design, but I'm not feeling the giant robot in this. You expect something kind of blocky with your giant robots. Something where the shins are like a third of the total height and can suck the thighs into them without problem, there is a serious case of the shoulder pads, and the head is itsy-bitsy. This guy is like they rammed Ultraman and Neon Genesis Evangelion together. It don't feel much robot, more like a guy in a mesh suit or a flat-out angel. .... Why an angel?! |

I love the design, I really do, but I think they deviated a little too much. |
I think it looks awful. Maybe if I see it in action, it may be cooler. At the moment, it looks like if Roland Emmerich design this Megazord if you ask me. I would not know that would be a Power Rangers Megazord if no one told me.

Yep, that's definitely the biggest failing of this. It completely fails the squint test, being unrecognizable as what it's apparently supposed to be. Which is even more damning because the suits actually pass that test, not with flying colors or anything, but you can still recognize what they're meant to be.
If you weren't trying to pass this off as THE megazord, maybe we'd be less critical of it. It's not an awful design, although the idea that it's a mecha is kind of... It looks more like a suit of armor than a giant robot, am I the only one seeing that? Like... this looks more like an Ultraman than a robot of any form. |

I actually think it's alright. I feel it'll be much better in the film, but overall not bad. The wings are a nice touch.
|
WTF is that thing supposed to be? How does it even combine? Not to mention the wings look awful. It looks like a Tekkaman fucked a unicorn.
|
Honestly, showing us the lackluster toy versions of the robot FIRST was probably a poor decision. Really sours our impression of the design and just makes the people who don't like the thing like it even less. I think first seeing the Megazord in all of its concept art or CG rendered "glory" would have made seeing the toys (which lack a great amount of paint and detail) easier to swallow.
|
It doesn't even resemble the Megazord at all. At least Bayformers' Optimus Prime has Optimus Prime elements.

The other side of the coin is that this was the ONLY logical solution since the supposed photos of the Deluxe version have been circulating against their wishes and to offset that reality, they gave us the next best option! |
I knew it. I knew it was just gonna be a giant power ranger

Meh. I don't care for it very much. At a guess, it's probably because the closer to human it is, the easier it is to render... but that's me making a wild guess, so I don't know
|
This megazord looks like something out of a Michael Bay movie.

Can't link to the pictures here, though. First post explains why. |

For some reason, my biggest gripe about the design is feet. Seriously they don't even look like feet, they look like blue and black goo, or those broken rubble tiles you use for standing up a figure in a diorama.

Looking at the image closer I've noticed that this has five hinged panels (both upper arms, both thighs, and the stomach). I'm guessing these are chambers to hold minifigures of the Rangers.
