Oh yeah! Another reason to why the negativity is deserved! People are SICK of edgy looking reboots, meaning the movie came out during a time where people'd be the most cynical about it

Not Twilight meets Transformers meets Iron Man. |

Again, it reminds me of all the fears of the modern TMNT movie being "dark&gritty" from initial trailers when the end result if anything wasn't dark enough. Quote:

TMNT was also rewritten at the last minute due to extreme backlash after the initial script leaked. |

I don't hate the movie, but, like Frozen, I think it's way over-rated. Especially considering what other contenders at least BH6 had. Still irks me that it beat out both the Book of Life and HtTYD2. Seriously... Frozen at least only had, what, the Croods and Despicable Me 2 to contend with... mind, I still prefer those two, but that's not the point. |

...in general. If, however, you receive an unending stream of negativity on all sides, you quickly realize there's some depression behind it. It's one thing to not like a movie or an item or a whatever, I get that. I get the whole not wanting to support it, etc. It crosses a line when it's just absolute crazy hate over a movie about a kids show that has toys. A lot of people come to message boards and Facebook groups to find a community and share their thoughts and share in the good times and the bad, but it seems negativity far outweighs the positivity in situations such as this one and I cannot figure out why. It's a movie, with some toys, is it really worth getting so upset about? Is it really worth it that much to you or anyone who shares the negative opinion that they have to constantly try to voice it over and over and then get others to join in with it? You said you don't watch Power Rangers, so the movie really shouldn't matter to you at all, regardless of whether or not you find it visually pleasing or not. I just don't understand the need to make a negative comment on something that doesn't affect you. There are plenty of times and situations when I could say something because I see or hear something I don't like, but I don't feel a need to. If that were the case, I'd probably be on every thread, every group, finding some way to utterly tear apart everything about a subject. I just don't feel a need to voice a negative opinion on something just because I can, and if it doesn't affect me, personally, I certainly don't see a need to do so. Those who are positive about a situation like to enjoy the brief high they got out of what they just experienced. They don't always need a voice coming along and telling them how awful everything is. After a certain point, people do get sick of it. Quote:

I can interact with people just fine, especially in person where we can discuss issues like normal people without a screen in front of our faces and a keyboard to be a warrior on. I don't know what you're like when you're offline, so I won't even assume, thanks for the same courtesy. Appreciate it so much. (Sarcasm, in case you were wondering.) Plenty of us are sick of shitty movies, myself included. That being said, this is a trailer, you have no idea that the film actually IS shitty. Is it possible? Sure. Is it possible that it isn't? Sure. You've automatically locked yourself into thinking it's a piece of shit as movies go and you don't truly know. (And no, you cannot say that you do know for a fact that it's actually shitty. That's an absolute impossibility.) Examples of not so great movies.... The Incredible Hulk... Trailer looked good, but I found it fell flat and I'm not the only one. It made money and a good portion of critics liked it, but the final film and the trailer weren't exactly simpatico in my book. (Edward Norton was a terrible fit, Mark Ruffalo is fantastic in replacing him.) The Avengers: Age Of Ultron... Trailers looked great, loved the whole Ultron singing Pinocchio's tune sent chills up people's spines, it looked like it was going to be awesome. The end result was overblown, too long and even Joss Whedon wasn't 100% happy with final film and was quite vocal about how it all came together in the end. (The Avengers was awesome, shame the sequel couldn't carry the weight.) Batman V Superman... Batman? Awesome. Superman? Awesome. Beating the crap out of each other just like they did in the comics, but in live action? Awesome. Turned out to be a snoozefest and the extended cut, while better, just extends the snoozier parts and it retains it's chorefest quality. (Just an absolute mess. Fortunately, Batfleck is worth the price of admission.) My point? Just because a trailer gives you an idea or an expectation now, doesn't mean the film will be that way. You automatically assume this film will be shit, you really don't know for sure. Part of that mindset? Negativity breeds negativity. You see others do it, you feel justified and it spreads like a virus. Is it really that hard to even try and see something positive about this film? I don't think so. Quote:
"I don't like the film, but I'm glad they're expanding the universe out so the audience can hopefully expand and bring in new fans." Negative side of the argument, but sees potential in the situation. "I love what I see, but I get that it's not quite the MMPR everyone grew up with. Might be worth watching just to see if there's something you can like about it." Positive, but not shoving it down people's throats. I understand that there's usually the zealots out there being the most vocal and they usually get other side to react in a manner that's less than respectable. (Both sides do this, not just the negative side.) That said, negativity definitely outweighs positivity. One of the Facebook groups has a post with a screen capture of TFW's forums and in the image it was a couple of posts that basically amounted to "What was awesome about Transformers/3rd Party in 2016" and "What was awful about Transformers/3rd Party in 2016" and the negative thread completely obliterated the positive thread in terms of numbers. Both in views and posts. I mean, by FAR. I'm sorry, but I have to disagree that both sides equally just as bad, negative loses a purpose past a certain point, you can only complain about something so much and nothing really gets done in the end. The film is pretty much in the can, complaining about it now will do nothing. Just say you won't support it and move on without having to constantly remind people you think it sucks or you hate it, etc. To be fair, the positive loses it's purpose if they're going overboard using the exact same tactics as the negative side is. It's also not helpful if the film does turn out to be a dud and just ignoring it and saying "LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU!" because that does nothing to fix the future or help with the present. Still, the numbers don't lie, we all need more positivity. Quote:
So, I'll respond to your post the best way I can. The first trailer, I liked a lot, but it did feel like a rush job in terms of editing and I can understand some of why people didn't connect to it as much as the filmmakers had hoped. This trailer, I thought the addressing the black Ranger issue was pretty funny. A stand up comedian would've addressed it as well and probably quite offensively. This film has certain restrictions and at least wanted to acknowledge that the filmmakers know what we've been saying and how wrong 1993's set up was. Some of it was quippy, that's true, and without the rest of the scene it's in we just don't know if the line will work or not. The "lotta gold" line didn't stick the landing with me, either. I thought it was cringeworthy. I'm not sure there can be a middle ground, however. Seeing how both sides are approaching this issue, I'd imagine there would be more than a few who would receive a middle ground trailer as such: "Oh, you can tell they're trying to pander to us. They cut out the shit lines, toned down some of the superdark stuff and gave us a trailer that's just kind of meh. It doesn't go out of it's way to offend, but it doesn't do anything to sell me on it either. This movie just sucks and there will be no trailer good enough to sell it." And you know I'm right. You've seen the TF movie forums over at TFW. I might be paraphrasing and it's not word for word, but that's the basic gist that comes out with each and every movie. It's getting to the point where it seems like it's changed from "Can't please everybody all of the time" to "Can't really please anyone. I just wish they'd stop destroying my childhood." (I'll never, ever understand that whole thing. I grew up with Batman: The Animated Series and Superman: The Animated Series. Both of which were excellent. (Especially BTAS) and BVS: Dawn Of Justice didn't ruin my childhood or my experiences with those two shows.) |
Forgive me for saying it, but... tl;dr, man. That is one monster of a post, and even though I didn't read the whole thing, I can't imagine the entire rant was necessary.

Thanks for adding so much to the discussion. *claps* |
All the skepticism aside, the movie did renew my interest a bit. In the end, I just hope the movie will do good and made people appreciate Power Rangers more instead of viewing it like a joke.
Fingers crossed though. |

So far, it looks like a cast of Sam Witwickys, Mikaela Baneses, and those frat boys from Transformers 2. And in my opinion, those are not likable characters in the least. The comedy matches this - it reminds me very much of the Transformers films. "Pee in that cup!" Ha ha ha, it's funny because it's awkward I guess. "I'm black!" Ha ha ha, it's funny because black is a race, so it's awkward for the black guy. As a side note, I find awkwardness/humiliation to be the most grating possible form of comedy - although that doesn't really apply to these jokes since they're kind of just nothing. More like, not funny at all, but people laugh because of the comedic timing. That's just me, though. That's the main thing that bugs me, really. The screenwriting is indicating that it will be flat, boring, obnoxious, and cliche in the exact same way as Transformers or miscellaneous other sci-fi films. I could comment on designs or whatever but I don't really care about those, even if I may dislike some part of them. |
Trailer looks good. Kudos for having them show more action than the first, which builds up my hopes. Will probably go see it, will gauge opinion then, because trailers (especially recent ones) have been, in hindsight, often terrible.

People are perfectly entitled to be as positive or negative as they choose to be as long as they aren't attacking people for thinking differently. Which actually wasn't going on in this thread until the people who didn't like the trailer started getting called out. So yeah, I think I'm pretty right in my assessment that BOTH camps are equally ridiculous. If you don't like someone's opinion, you have the ability to discuss it rationally without telling people you don't want to "be told about it". If it's that much of a problem for you you have a perfectly good ignore function at your disposal. Now all of you. This line of discussion ends here. Start getting along and having rational discussions or infractions are going to start being handed out. |
Would it help if I listed my positives?
-I liked that Jason said "It's Morphin' time" in a non-cheesy way, and not just because reference. It actually felt lke a semi-natural line and with his other brief shots in the trailer he doesn't seem to be as totally stone-faced depressed like I thought he was going to be. Jason was always my favourite so while I doubt he'll be much like the MMPR character, at least he's not what I was afraid he'd be. -I liked that the Rangers fought in broad daylight without desaturated colours. The suits aren't my thing but at least everyone's colour is vivid. They didn't Zack Snyder it. -I liked that we see Jason's suit all filthy as he crawls through the mud. I feel like super hero movies don't like to get the costumes messy, whether they're real or not. -I liked how one of the money shots and big crescendo of the trailer is Jason saving a person. The Rangers are heroes, after all, and I hope they become publically acknowledged as such. The Rangers never worked as Spider-man-style social outcasts. Plus it hopefully means the final battle won't be just fighting and mindless destruction. -I like how the Zords seemingly fight whilst combining, as you see the Pteradactyl on the T Rex's back while it's shooting. -I think I like that you see their faces in the helmets. Granted it's odd and kinda stupid to do that in the Zord cockpits during battle, but I always like when we see the actual actors in the suits. -I like the Command Center. It looks like a command center of some kind, and I like how the Rangers seemignly go on a little journey to find it. Though I guess the rocky part is, like, outside? Weird that the VR game thing used that as a setting. -Ummm... I like the song they used. Just because I liked Saints Row The Third, not really because it fits the tone at all. In fact, it doesn't, but anything that reminds me of The Third is good. -I like that they're fighting in a small town without many huge buildings. Feels a bit different than the typical Hollywood battle in a big grey American city with buildings crashing and falling and whatnot. -Uh... hmmm. I like that... huh. Mmmm. What else? I like that the Zords get to fight before combining, though that is kinda typical of PR to do that at least once. Now some uber quick, non-dwelling bullet points of what I don't like just in the interest of fairness: -I don't like the actors playing the Rangers that much. -I don't like how small the Zords are. They feel a lot like Transformers now. -I don't like that Bryan Cranston is pretending he's not an actor. -I don't like Goldar. I think it looks actually worse than what the toy alluded to. -I don't like the jokes and self-references. This feels like a very altered perception of PR from a fan/Saban's point of view. Power Rangers was never all that quipy and self-referencial. It's camp and cheese came from the senarios being taken seriously, this feels disingenuous. -I don't like Rita. Should've just been a new character or an underling of Rita. -The Megazord looks even worse in motion. Despite simplifying itself to a "bodysuit" design, it still looks messy and overdetailed. -The tone being so different from the last trailer makes me feel like this movie's going to be edging on bipolar. -How do you glow black? There, see? Written like that it seems much more even-Stevens, yes? |

You said it wasn't a negative, but that doesn't change the fact that you still randomly compared this movie to Star Wars in an attempt at deflecting criticism from this movie. And my comment had nothing to do with whether it was formulaic at all, because I don't care, but the simple fact that you used a tired excuse in the first place. |
Hey now, everyone.
It's movie adaptation of a series where dudes and ladies wear brightly colored spandex based off of prehistoric dinosaurs under the guidance of a floating head in a tube and his quirky robot companion. Let's not take this discussion too seriously ;) |
This trailer is a vast improvement over the first one. The tone is completely different. I have no idea how good it'll be, but it at least looks like it will be entertaining.
Look at the bright side. Even if you don't like the movie. We could have another Transformers situation, were the movie brings in money that helps get stuff you do like. |

What I get out of this thread is that if this movie isn't a Fantastic 4 style bomb it'll still be very polarizing in the fandom.

- Goldar still looks like a colossal statue sponsored by Kraft Cheese, basically it looks like it will be a gargantuan brainless cheddar cheese putty that tries to mimic the Megazord - The Megazord component-wise, meaning If they want it to make the face look like Ryukendo go for it but I still would have liked it to combine technically like Daizyujin/Megazord at least - The non-Red Rangers' helmets still are not distinguishable right off the bat - Bill Hader deserves better than to voice that techno-organic Junji Ito-esque looking thing Other than that, I liked how they are presented so far. They have convinced me that much as to consider it a casual matinee during the weekends if I decide to get off my butt. The fact that Zordon is now a gigantic etch n' sketch mural of Malcolm's dad? Ehh, I can live with that. I won't make a fuss about that anymore. |

Only things I didn't like were the Goldar and Megazord designs (Still think they look lazy/boring) and the song choice...it's such a played-out song to choose for a movie trailer.
Other than that I liked the tone a lot better than the first trailer. Less "trying to be gritty" and more "dumb action movie". Which is what I want, basically. I'm not expecting this to be good at all. I just want to go in, have some fun and a few laughs and that's it. |

More posts like this and it might save the mods a few aneurysms. :lol (you guys have my sincerest sympathies) |
Seeing the trailer for the nth time again and the way the megazord punches is just funny for some reason. Am I alone on this? Who's with me fellas?
|
I'm surprised people who don't like the trailer haven't commented on how AWFUL Jason's actor did for the battle cry at the end
