On a side note, I read that many people really want for Crunchyroll to cover Ultraman series. I want to know what is Crunchyroll is. Aren't we have Kissasian already and some subs too like Over-Time? I also have once tried to access Crunchyroll but they want me to pay some money to get a full feature of the web or app. I don't really want to spend several bucks just for Crunchyroll while you can still access several of Ultraman series or anything through the net.

We're hoping for Crunchyroll to come through because a) Toku shows getting official English releases is cool and b) there's a chance that if Crunchyroll doesn't do Geed that no one will sub it at all.
|
Yeah, I'm hoping that Crunchyroll offers it as well.
I won't be able to watch it through that service because of licensing issues and shit, but if Crunchyroll streams Geed I can at least get the subs easily. |

Its almost here. Now that I think about it though, is Ultraman even available on Crunchyroll in Asian countries? |

It's official, crunchyroll is getting Zeed http://tokusatsunetwork.com/2017/07/...g-crunchyroll/

Not surprised, really. The question is, how long after it airs will it appear?
|
Well if they do it like X and Orb, the "simulcast" should be up after an hour or so after it originally aired in Japan for the paying members. For everybody else it'll be available a week later. Now that I think about it, didn't they release the first episode of Orb for everybody then went back to the week later with the second episode?
|
And now the official announcement from crunchyroll themselves http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-new...geed-simulcast

That was a really great premiere. I wasn't particularly hyped for Geed beyond the knowledge that, after X and Orb, Tsuburaya can basically do no wrong, so I was actually quite surprised how quickly it won me over once I started watching it. I feel excited to follow this show in a way I wasn't at first with Orb.
Riku in particular ended up being extremely likable in a mere 22 minutes. You can't go wrong with a hero who literally names himself after the concept of taking action. Also he has great taste in tokusatsu, which I can respect. :p |
Saw the Episode 0 on Crunchyroll, and the Raw for Episode 1 in the youtube link TF RyuShin posted.
Overall I thought the Episode 1 was pretty good. Riku and his alien friend seem like decent people. The fight completely wiped away my initial worry of Geed Primitive just being Orb Thunder Breaster v2. Still not really comfortable with how overtly toyetic the Geed Rizer is, although I might warm up to it as the series goes on... |
Brilliant premiere. I pretty much share the sentiment that Tsuburaya can't do anything wrong at the moment, and this just continued that mindset. If I HAD to nitpick something it would be the use of a fusion gimmick again straight after Orb, but I'd really be stretching myself to consider that a real issue.
Very curious about that little prologue bit. I always love how good Ultra is with handling continuity. I've only seen Q, the original, X and Orb but I don't ever feel like I'm missing anything with the returning faces. Riku is a very likeable protagonist and the action sequences are as beautiful to watch always (love a good nighttime fight). Really looking forward to more. Also I'm finally going to get around to changing that thread title :p |

GUYS! GUESS WHO VOICES BELIAL!
http://i.imgur.com/hplNVAI.png So just saw episode 1 and boy I do have to agree this was a nice set-up for things to come. I am already psyched for episode 2. On a side note, is it just me or does the name Geed seem like a portmanteau of Gene and Seed? It fits the whole lineage and DNA concept I think. |

Thing is it did not occur to me when I thought the official spelling was Xeed or Xead, but now that it has been finalized as Geed it just clicked. I feel good about this show. Also like how his eyes are like blue flames. Now give us Salaryman Papa Zero Tsuburaya! :lolol |

Not to mention シード and ジード are basically the same word. It seems so obvious now! Although if we've had Ultraman X and Ultraman Geed, I eagerly await like, Ultraman 00 or something being next. :lol |
There's definitely some word play going on as well with the word 凝乎と/jitto.

Does anyone one really know the meaning of Riku's catchphrase? It's one of the few things that really scratches my head in confusion. Oh yeah, I forgot my reactions myself. It's a solid first episode but needs sub to understand most of the dialogues, especially Rem's dialogues. Comparing Riku to Gai, I would still prefer Gai but I will wait and see how they will make Riku as charming as the past Ultra heroes. On a side note, am I the really one who hates the fight in this episode? Granted, the wet and watery battle is cool but Riku's first fight was so disastrous. Really, it's even more disastrous than Chihiro's earlier battles. He only win because of using the finisher in the last second!? What the fuck is that!?

Glad to hear the positive reviews. I really look forward to seeing this after the one-week delay.

Just watched the first episode, it was amazing.
First of all, before we get into the show itself, I'm a huge fan of Belial, I like this dude a lot. Simply because he's an evil Ultraman with a kick-ass design. So when I heard that we would get a Belial-focused show with his son as the protagonist I was already on board 100%. And I admit, I was a bit afraid my high hopes would dampen the experience, especially after the last two Ultraman shows were as good as they are and the slight fear that they could lose their touch now, but after watching the first episode of Geed... this is another great show in the making. I really like the protagonist Riku, he's the sort of clumsy and friendly hero Tokusatsu features a lot but I think the actor makes it a lot more believable than some of the other characters with these traits. And to be honest, as soon as Riku switched on a Toku episode for lunch I was like "Yeah this dude is alright, he knows what's up" :lol Can't say much about Pega yet, but I like him so far and I'm sure he will get a focus episode sooner than later. And then the monster waltzes in and they finally made the logical step-up from the Ultraman fusions and have the monster merge too, with Belial DNA as a core it seems. And it looks awesome, fantastic suit. And of course, the model work is on point as always, but we get into that later. So Riku stumbles upon the base, gets his stuff, transforms and man... the Geed suit is gorgeous. Those blue eyes with the silver, black and red body, so good. And the action is amazing. They really did their best to impress us from the very start. Battles at night are always great, but how they played with the environment and this lake, that was very cool. And then you really start to appreciate all of the model work, the miniatures are fantastic. So yeah, the action already has me drooling and from what I've seen of Solid Burning, it will only continue to blow me away. Character-wise I like them all so far, I've seen a bit more of the side characters through the promotional stuff and I think I will like them just fine. Even the ditzy agent lady. And the catchphrase of Riku is cute, I mean how he chose the name Geed. Plus, he totally borrowed the "Here we go!" - phrase from his own Toku hero, Donshine, I love it. I honestly can't wait for the "Beware the Gray Ghost"-kinda episode were Riku meets Donshine's actor. That has to happen, right? So yeah, I could go on like this for a long time, but to make it short: Episode 1 was amazing, I hope they can keep this up but I'm not a tiny bit worried about that to be honest, Ultraman is at its best for the past few years now, and it will only continue to get better! |

He has the GEnes of a Ultraman and is the seED of Belial. This is too good to be coincidence. Tsuburaya must have thought this up intentionally. |
That premiere was amazing, they have really stepped up their game since X. (Well X is where I started watching it as it aired.) I have loved UltraMan so much since Ginga forward. This just continues the tradition. Riku is just a great main character, I loved his drive to be a hero, and that he didn't like Sitting around and doing Nothing. This definitely has lots of continuity and I love that about the UltraMan series, that in the main series they aren't afraid to connect the past ones and use that history. I mean Kamen Rider and Sentai do it in the movies, but it would great to acknowledge them in the series like how Rider and Sentai did in the Showa Era. Anyways, the secret base was awesome, the fighting was amazing, and I think Geed is my favorite Aesthetic look of an UltraMan (I think tied with forms of X, Victory, Ginga, and Orb.) Very likeable cast and just amazing premise, I can't wait for more.
|
Sentai isn't supposed to have continuity though as every Sentai series is set in its own universe. They only did it with Gokaiger due to the annniversary and for some reason Sun Vulcan and Denjiman are loosely related.
Anyway, I watched the first episode as well and it was decent. It was a first episode, but it didn't feel as rushed as other series have done with their premiers. Not sure I understand the opening prologue though, but whatever, I'm sure it will be more explored. Does anyone know if this is going to be 25 episodes like Orb or be the standard 50+? |
Quote:
And I wouldn't really call 50+ episodes a standard for Ultraman anymore, the last show which ran that long aired like 10 years ago. We had shorter shows ever since. |

Yeah, I was just talking about Toku in general. Frankly, I'm okay with Ultraman series being only 25ish episodes. If that means they can take a 50 episode budget and put it into 25 strong episodes, I'll be okay with that.

I think Ultra Seven did it best though because he didn't have a time limit, he didn't always fight a monster, and battles weren't always at th eend of a episode.

Some past Ultras did balance between the fillers and the real plot to the story in the span of 50-ish episodes. The most obvious case is Gaia, they still had some fillers but most of them are rather bleak and some of them are really heartwarming. The fillers are really enjoyable to watch. It's the opposite of Dyna where 85% of the series was composed of fillers. You can cut a span of 10 or 15 episodes and you still haven't lost anything.
I think Geed will still play safe by having 25-ish episodes. I don't mind for having more episodes as long as they could provide a better stories. Heck, I would even think that they might give a full year running Ultra series anytime soon. Remember Orb back then, even in the span of 25 episodes, there were still fillers, just like the mysterious cafe case which happened 4 episode before the series ended. However, it's obvious that Orb still could handle it's plot very well. |
