inb4 Ex-Aid's final episode/True Ending is Second Build |
The designs aren't too bad, but the gimmick seems a little excessive. How is that even going to look in the show?

https://68.media.tumblr.com/10164b88...8h0o2_1280.png I gotta say, the design is really frickin good. Something interesting I've noticed is that the bottle gimmick has the name of the combination on it. For example the Rabbit bottle says Rabbit Tank so I thought they couldn't be mixed and matched because they must only be compatible with what ever the combination on the bottle is but according to these images they can be mixed and matched like Gaia Memories. |
I gotta say, the suit looks really awesome! I will honestly be shocked if Riku Sanjo doesn't write this one, it has his vibes. I tend to at enjoy his shows at the very least, but I also would like to see a new writer.
|
So Build is basically a mix of W's aesthetic with OOO's combo change gimmick?
|
Loving the look, especially the asymmetrical driver. The suit looks like a mix of Drive and W.

Now THAT looks like a proper goddamn Kamen Rider. I always felt that both Ghost and Ex-Aid had pretty weak suit designs, but this is freaking beautiful.
I'm getting huge W vibes from this. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that both show have the same design artist. |

I'm filing this as a "genius inventor created the gamer driver and fights bugsters, but they call him father" tier rumor until there's something actually concrete here. |

Isn't W's design artist working on the W sequel manga? |

varying degrees of awful (especially the second wave of Eyecons - Himiko, Goemon, etc.). I don't think anyone stopped and asked themselves "how will this look on top of the red Boost suit?" |
Man he looks dope! Although the belt continues to be ugly after Gamer Driver. But seriously, I love how it's similar to Double but not a fixed design. Plus it's weird to see the antennas directly connected to the eyes. And the head gem returns after Drive took it off.

So, two things I've seen no one mention.
1.) Do the form names not sound like the Boss Characters in a Megaman X game? Rabbit Tank, Hawk Gattling? Our hero plans to take down X! 2.) Does. This. Dude. Ride. A. Bike?! Ex-aid went and made a Rider a bike, and even after killing him the main Rider refused to regularly use his corpse to ride around. We just been getting the Power Rangers/Super Sentai run on site shots, and the Rider part of being a Rider keeps dying down. I'm not even a Rider purist who requires A through Z to be shown before I consider something a "real season", but why is Toei putting all their money into 50 different forms they'll abandon mid-season, and not spending half a second on designing a bike? I doesn't even half to be used to attack like Blade's or Kuuga's, just make it something the Rider actually drives around on. |
I'm into it. Really looking forward to what the gimmick figures do. This design in general is just more to my taste than Ex-Aid was. Though I liked Brave enough to get an SHF. I'm curious to see the driver in action too. I'm just hearing Genesis driver sounds when I look at it.

I like the design a lot, so I'm worried the series will be horrible. (Recent Rider series suggest my enjoyment of the show will be inversely proportional to my enjoyment of the design.) I'm gobsmacked that they were able to manage a rabbit design that doesn't look ridiculous to me.
It looks like I was wrong about not having the ability to mix-and-match, which makes the lids on the FullBottles even more puzzling. The toy illustration shows that the swapping gimmick could kinda work, but it cheats a little since the little chibi forms are missing certain details, like the red slash in the middle of the right chest. I suspect the retail toy line may take a similar shortcut. My annual "Please, please, I hope it doesn't suck" mantra aside, I'm excited for a Rider design I can really get behind, plus getting a W/OOO of my own. (Those series aired before I discovered toku.) |
Build looks cool, but I wanted something more original. When I first saw this image, I thought it was something related to W. Personally I don't care about the new Rider shows after Gaim. Maybe one day I will give it a watch.

Also, is it just me, or does it look like Build is about to do a bottle flip? :lol |
Ok, phew. The other forms put to rest the concern I had after seeing the base form, that being that each form would just be a recolor with different eyes, the other forms actually have weapons and different limbs and stuff. But that also leaves me even more confused as to why the hell the tank form has no tank weaponry. Seriously, what?
Clothes/Close/Claws (hoo boy) is interesting, but I'll need to see more before I can judge. And it looks like Nightrogue and Bloodstark are probably Mashin Chaser-esque rider-likes after all, which is interesting. Also, I swear these scanners/leakers get a kick out of being a tease and slowly dribbling things in before they finally just put all the scans up. It's the smallest amount of power I've ever seen go to someone's head. |

So what they do is introduce the bike early, sell the one toy they want to sell, and then abandon the bike and save themselves the costs of filming with it. And of course, all the forms need more time so the scenes with the bike need to be toned down. Some shows tried to apply the alternate form-mentality to the bikes (Double with the different attachments to the HardBoilder) but it didn't stick so I assume it didn't work out. It's probably too expensive to feature CGI-heavy vehicles or multiple real machines for an extensive time as well. Strangely enough, Drive came close to have the Rider machine matter again but it was a car. And I think it's a formula worth replicating: Give the bike an AI, have it manifest with a hologram so it can act as a character and have the machine change alongside the Rider's forms. But as long as the current formula works out I'm afraid the trend of bikes vanishing after the end of the first quarter will continue. Also, I heard that filming with heavily customized bikes gets more and more difficult as they have issues with being able to legally drive them but I don't know if that's true or not - I don't even know how this kind of stuff works in Europe, let alone Japan :lol |
Something I just noticed about NightRogue and Close/Clothes: their designs are mostly symmetrical, although NightRogue does a minor color swap on its piping. Pretty stark contrast to Build's asymmetry.
I'm thinking that when we get the inevitable Legend Rider versions of Build, they may do something interesting by having a few different forms that aren't just one Rider, but two blended. So, like, Gaim/Drive or (more interestingly) Ghost/Kiva. I can also see a major exception for W; I don't think the W manga's timing is coincidental, and wouldn't be surprised to see a W guest appearance. Maybe something like W Tank/Cyclone and Build Joker/Rabbit. |

Para-DX called. He wants the gimmick he stole from Double back.
But in all seriousness this stuff all looks... very acceptable? It's just wacky enough to not be flatly awesome like a Kabuto or a Wizard, but on the other hand it's way too cool to be a bold statement like a Fourze or an Ex-Aid. It's a weird feeling. I like what I'm seeing a fair bit but I'm also kind of unexcited? Of course, it generally takes me until seeing a trailer for the show to truly come around to any new Rider, so I guess it's nothing to worry about. |
Does anyone else think that Hawk Gatling's left eye looks like a fidget spinner?

The overall problem with the concept is probably again that you can only sell the toy once. Another thing I haven't mentioned is that oversaturating the toyline with multiple bikes probably wouldn't work very well. |
I think he looks really cool. A million times better than Ex-aid. The way the compound eyes switch out is cool. The suit is simple yet effective and the belt is neat.
May actually check this one out. |

If they make the bike an actual character or just important enough and have his upgrades be as significant as the Rider's they might get kids to buy that stuff. |
I'm Kinda lukewarm about it. It's not bad, but it's just kinda... standard? I dunno I'll probably like it once I see it in action but right now it's just kinda meh.

But it is just the front perspective of a gatling gun from the looks of it. Quote:

W and OOO with bottled souls.
Sign me up. We'll see how hardboiled his trunks are. |
I dig the suit designs, I definitely see the W influence. I'm not too crazy about the driver though, I definitely need to see it in action and hear the sounds on that. The gimmick figure like should be fun, lots of mix and match combinations. Overall, I'm hoping this will be a good show.
