I'm kidding. It's definitely in my top five favorite series. That list retains as: W OOO Ex-Aid Build Gaim Den-O, Blade, Drive, Fourze, and Wizard wrap out my top ten. Since I haven't watched Kiva yet (just starting), I'll hold judgement, but man, what a series to just binge again. |

I liked Build a lot even though the logic at the final stretch seemed weird ("to save the Earth, we gotta DESTROY it, bro!") and rushed though, atp rushed ends runs seem to be par for the course.
i LOVE that there are TWO Banjos in the new reality - that's straight up bizarre and I'm here for it. I'll miss GREASE the most!!! Looking forward to Zi-O - it's gonna have to work hard to overcome it's Decade-ish plot. |
You know what I just realized that might actually be the biggest problem with this whole finale? No "thanks for watching over the past year" thing at the end. I know it was just a formality anyway, but wow, Toei, way to take your audience for granted. :lol

On the bright side, I can now confirm beyond a shadow of a doubt that I love Build dearly, because it's been a couple days now and I'm not even upset about it anymore. I don't know if it's just because I was bracing myself for Gaim-level betrayal or what, but... yeah. Build. Darn good show. |
Current emotions.
https://i.imgur.com/Odh1Jzg.png Ok to stop being melodramatic for a second, I really enjoyed this finale and thought it was a good way to end off Build. There is however an argument to be had about the ending and the implications it makes, about whether Sento actually did gave the other characters better lives or if he actually just erased the ones we know and replaced them with version from a different dimensions. Whatever the case maybe, I still rather enjoyed the bittersweet tone it had and it does make it memorable. Build is a show that I'm probably going to remember for a while. It's the first rider show in a while that I was able to consistently watch from beginning to end. The past year has also been a rather significant point in my life. Whether I will remember the show fondly or grow to dislike it, who knows. But it's certainly one that I won't forget. |
Well, well....It's been a fun ride, Build. This Finale.....I really feel pretty awkward about it. It's really a very odd way of ending a Series, but....in some ways, I kinda feel like that's the point.
First off, the fight was pretty darn cool! Really like the real pettiness on Evolt during this fight, realizing that he's screwed in this...pocket dimension? anyway, so he figures might as well take down Sento with him. And Sento was fighting his hardest in this fight, and the way both were depowering during the fight was really cool. Although what bugged me in this was....Why didn't Evolt depower into his Kamen Rider form? His Monster Form is supposed to be him at his strongest, right? Sooooo....having regular RabbitTank beat him was kinda weird. RabbitDragon being used for this fight was very fitting though, but it's funny how this kinda highlights how oddly disappointing Genius Form was, for this Trial Form to be able to be at the same level it was. Second, if there's one complaint I have of this Episode....SIGH, FRICKIN VERNAGE...USELESS AF!!! And yes, I understand, sure, her actress got sick....Doesn't excuse the character in the story not playing enough of a role she should've. ESPECIALLY during this Finale. Third....this new world....It's very jarring. And I don't mean this in a bad way. This is what I meant when I said that it feels awkward. It's also pretty odd that instead of just outright beating a villain & resolving the problem within the setting like every other Kamen Rider Series, they instead just....BANISH & REWRITE IT...It's pretty weird to think about. But the way this new world is where everyone is back to normal, the Skywall doesn't exist anymore....but Sento & Ryuga are there as oddities within this new world....It's very headscratching. I guess the biggest question is....What now??? I assume this will be addressed when we get to Zi-O. Overall as a Series, Kamen Rider Build was GREAT, and is definitely one of the best of the Heisei Era. People rag on the Neo-Heisei Era, but I would argue it has most of the best shows of the franchise, and Build is one of them. Now, this show WOULD'VE EASILY been THE best, had it not been for the ridiculously weak Lost Bottle Arc.....but it still holds as a Top-Tier Series. I'm REALLY frustrated on if Build has earned itself as the best Kamen Rider Series to date or not, because this would've been an easy "YES!" had it not been for this last Arc. But still, this show was a banger, and I'm gonna miss it. |
From what I've read, Vernage does play a role in the movie

I just finished it. I'm used to being at least a little disappointed by Rider series finales. The very best series finales have usually only registered as "pretty good, for what is was" to me. Even ones that ended reasonably well didn't quite feel like they'd tied up their story to my satisfaction. (Gaim managed it if you pretend the series ended with the final Urobuchi-written episode.)
Build managed to pull it off. That was great! They remembered to lead with the strongest element from the series, which was the friendship between Banjou and Sento. They left the door open for Misora to someday be able to reconnect with the two of them. I might have hated the "all the death and madness never happened" plot resolution if they hadn't remembered to make our heroes pay for it. They'll go unsung, and they have no place in the new world they've created. Happy-ending-asterisk is just about the perfect tone. I can also now exhale: Kamen Rider Build managed to finish as one of the best modern Kamen Rider series, and it never got bad. I think the harshest criticism I have of it is that you could have cut five or six episodes toward the last third, and that was mostly due to the plot hovering far too long on "Evolt has essentially won, but we can't get to a final confrontation and need to stall for a while." Not quite filler, but moseying toward the finish line right when the pace should've gotten frenetic. The narration at the end - the way it gave us awesome new context for the fourth-wall-breaking opening narration - was flat-out brilliant. Poor Zi-O. That series is going to have the Gaim problem: how is it ever going to live up to the series before it? Build has been a fantastic ride, even despite that the toys are seemingly more prevalent and obnoxious than ever before. |
Okay, so there was a song that played when Sento went into Nascita, and it sounded very familiar. If anything, the feeling of familiarity is probably how much the singer sounds like Frank Sinatra. Does anyone know the name of that song? It's driving me crazy.
