Honeslty, I was a tad dissapointed at first to see that Ryuusouger is going to be yet ANOTHER Dino sentai....espcially because with dragon in the very name of the sentai you would expect...oh I dunno...DRAGONS to be the theme.
But heres the thing...I like what Im seeing quite a bit. The mecha look fantastic, the weapon and changer ( Im estatic that its a wrist changer) look great, and the suits are spectacular looking. Yes Im taking a bit more of a positive attitude towards this than most of you, but consider that so far, all we have for this series is an intial toy listing. We don't know the plot, characters, villians, etc. So some advice for all of you: Perhaps wait till we've actually seen something of the actual show before going on about this being a ripoff/copycat/ end of sentai as we know it. Who knows....it might actually be pretty damn good :) |

You know... it's odd. I feel, nothing.
Not excitement, not anger at it just being dinosaurs, not confusion... just, nothing. It's a weird feeling to be honest because while I am not the biggest Sentai buff, I usually get interested in some way. And that worries me ever so slightly that I am feeling nothing at this new Sentai. Like normally I form a first impression but I have none. Okay this was my little ramble, have a good day. |
I just want it to be good, ya know?

It’s not a Triceratops! It’s an Ojoceratops! It’s not a Pteranodon! It’s a Geosternbergia! It’s not an Ankylosaurus! It’s a Euoplocephalus! It’s not a Pachycephalosaurus! It’s a Sphaerotholus! It’s not a Velociraptor! It’s a you get the point. I know it’s technically more accurate, but does it really matter? Hell, it was a brachiosaurus in Kyoruger but a Titanosaur or whatever in PRDS. At the end of the day, it was a big silver sauropod. |

Aoi Kurenai has repeatedly sourced his information, it isn’t scaremongering. Everything he says about Sentai dwindling is true, and between all of this being so “safe” and the actual leaker being on the money about everything else there’s absolutely no reason not to take all of this at face value right now. If the series does well and Sentai continues on then great, but to suggest that the brand is in a strong place right now is frankly ridiculous. |
OMG! Toei humor strikes again:
"Dino might? Nah, this is DINO KNIGHT!" xD And boom goes the dynamite. |
|
Toei is waste their time reusing old themes.
|
Gotta say I dig the helmet design. Making knight-like visors out of the animal teeth is kinda cool.
But what it ultimately does is just making me want to watch Kamen Rider Ruyki again. |
I mean...... they could've at least made two females in the team again. Uggghhh I think I'll drop this one if the Red is another Daigo/Takaharu. Can't blame everyone else for being pessimistic too.

The 2 most popular Sentai series in recent history are Gokaiger and Kyoryuger. With this supposed Captain Marvelous thing and Ryuusouger (It's Kyoryuger. Again!) you can sense an... air of desperation I guess? Definitely playing it super safe.
Outside of that stuff, I really like all of these designs. KishiRyuOh has a Go-Buster Ace kind of thing going on that appeals to me a lot. The combined armour modes are way more interesting than the replacement arm style we've been getting recently. Good stuff! |

My guess is that this series will end up being okay, and doing okay.

I would have instantly love the designs had Kyoryuger did not exist. I mean it does look really good, but the whole thing just seems tiring.
And the thing is even if the show wins us over with early episodes it's not that safe, because I love Kyoryuger until KyoryuViolet was introduced because up till then while it is Daigo-centric, when Yayoi debuts it completely becomes a show about Daigo. All in all I want to be optimistic, but I just don't want to be disappointed again. |
Am I only one that can see dragon head as changer

A brief story outline has also been released:
"Before... There were knights who fought their archenemy 'Druidon" using the powers of ancient dinosaurs. They were called Ryusouger. They rode their partner dinosaurs, the Kishiryu, and the days of their fierce fight using the Ryusouls that house their souls unraveled. -Present day after much time- In peaceful world, the tremendous power of the Kishiryu has been sleeping, sealed away, but Doruidon's return draws near and the time to awaken is close... Now the curtain of a never before seen Super Sentai is cut down!" the RyuSouls will grant various armor abilities based on which ones they use. |
Now I have to know, were they around before or after the Zyulanders? Sentai's lore has greately expanded with Zyuohger.

looking at it again...black's helmet sports a prominent rhinoceros-like horn, which makes me doubt if he is meant to be based of a Stegosaurus or any other stegosaurid for that matter.

that doesn't seem to have a horn on its head though

Despite all the points about this being a blatant rehash of old ideas, and myself being disappointed about prehistoric animals and not dragons, none of this looks bad. I like the changers and the suits. The Ryu Souls and their armor modes look cool. Tyramigo has a good design, but the rest of the mechas except for Tiger Lance are too blocky and undetailed, just like the Zyudenryu in Kyoryuger. Since they do have one mammal mecha thus far, I do hope there are more down the line. Even better would be one or two birds, fish or amphibians.
The plot reads like a Zyuranger rehash. (The dragon knights rumor must have been referring to this.) If that's the case I hope they do a better job with it than Zyuranger did, but given the state of 2010s Sentai I'm not holding out much hope. More likely, and given Toei's absolute safe mode, it'll just be another saccharine "wacky anime hijinks" fest with gadgets that don't shut up, and villains with little personality and effectiveness* *As unimpressive as Zyuohger was, the Deathgaliens were at least a unique concept for villains, even though nothing interesting was done with them. |
I like the knights theme. It takes me back to the mystic force days. And for some reason I’m still digging the Dinos
|
I'm not digging the dinos, not that sooner.

the show seems interesting with what has been given so far
not feeling the toys though which is a bummer for me |
You know what, if this is Kyouryuger 2 i wouldn't be mad, cause I really enjoyed that season

Worst-case (and most likely) scenario, it'll take the premise of Zyuranger and combine it with all the awfulness of Kyoryuger. Because safey-safe is the rule at Toei, apparently.
|
I'd thought I'd gone overboard on thinking they were recycling Kyoryuger, and then I saw the scans that show them in Armed On modes. It's even the same arm!
It looks like the power-ups aren't hero-color-specific: they're coming from the widgets in image 3, which is why Black is using a blue-shield thing and Blue is using the teal something-or-other. Presumably, they're meant to be interchangeable. I'm fascinated by how clear the influences from previous Sentai are. It's actually easier to point out the original elements. The helmet's resemblance to medieval knights' visors stands out. The sword doesn't appear to be a gunblade, and it doesn't look like they have a default ranged sidearm, which feels kinda Shinkenger and contributes to the knight theme. (Although there's always the possibility of a trigger on those things. Toei and Bandai LOVE gunblades.) I have no idea what's in that belt buckle. Also, I wonder if I'm being premature on that no-gun thing: that may be what's going on in the attach-belt-buckle-to-sword picture. Now that I'm setting aside my disappointment about the dragon thing: I think I fundamentally like the suit designs. Anything that references the awesome Dekaranger suits is okay by me. I get that they're trying to ape Kyoryuger, but that doesn't actually bother me; I *loved* Kyoryuger. (Then again, part of what I loved about Kyoryuger was down to the casting. I might have hated Daigo if he hadn't been played by an actor with charisma and presence to spare.) The muted colors and the choice to make silver a prominent design element is super-cool. I may have loved the candy-color saturation of Kyoryuger, but those yellow weapons looked like toys-in-a-bad-way. These swords still look like toys - Sentai weapons almost always do - but they're not so ridiculous. Nothing we've seen speaks to anything about series quality. That will always come down to the producers and writers. Writing is part of why I suspect LvsP has been relatively-poorly-received by communities like this one: even a terrific premise means little if you can go 40 episodes with almost no plot development. It had a fundamental conceptual flaw. If you do a show about phantom thieves who never commit crimes being chased by police despite being clearly on the same side... Yeah. That's kinda hard to overcome. What made Kyoryuger work (for those of us who liked it) was that it managed to have a sense of continual, forward plot motion. I doesn't actually matter how safe the show's theme and designs seem if the show produces an engaging story. We probably won't have a sense of this until the show has been running for a month or two. Until then, all we can do is hope. |

On the other hand, though, Kyuranger (a show I do like) was constantly moving from one plot arc to the next with nary a breather, such that everything felt like a blur and nothing really had staying power. The best I would hope for is something like ToQger in terms of plot with at least some of the creativity of Kyuranger and LuPat that Toei might grudgingly allow. My fantasy is "Zyuranger done right" (which in some ways Gingaman was, but that had a far different premise). Are the Ryusougers revived ancient knights, or contemporary people given ancient power? |
