Not too much to say about this one, but don't take that to mean it isn't just as good as all the other episodes:

- Yuka is adorable.

- Following on from that last point, I like it when a show takes the time to flesh out the ensemble right away like this. The sooner you can develop the characters, the better in my opinion. Haruki can take a backseat for a bit if he needs to.

- Although Z does get some pretty cool action here, as ever. I especially liked Beta Smash running straight out of Sevenger when he transformed, and Alpha Edge's little airbrake thing as though he were wearing jet boots or something. That's not really how Ultramen look when they fly, but that's exactly what makes it neat. It's a very *active* visual for a very hot-blooded show.

- I don't know about you guys, but I'm starting to think this Iroquois Pliskin guy might actually be Solid Snake. I mean I guess it's not that weird for an old actor to play a new character but idk they just seem kinda similar

This was a fun episode, I do like how we brought back Neronga as a reference in order to power up Windom. Celebro continues to be intriguing with his belching Willy Wonka machine that can make medals. Man he sure is lucky he got a Kaiju crew member to take host of huh? Given I'm sure he has access to all kinds of kaiju substances for medals.

Also next week... the Juggling begins.

Either it was just a fun nod, or maybe they're pulling a Beast Morphers here.

Hell it would be awesome if Z ended up being a show that brings together the previous New Generation series. Riku as a recurring character, possible Juggler returns, and maybe, just maybe, Z is related to X in some way.

I mean look at Haruki's dimensional background. It's very similar to Daichi in X.

So, the auxiliary, toyline-only-unless-someone-likes-the-resultant-form-enough medals are out. And it turns out the Z Riser’s reaction when the components for a past Ultra fusion are read at once is the same as that of the Orb Ring and the Geed Riser.

So this guy from the third episode of ultraman Z is not only wearing socks and sandals but also socks and sandals on a construction site which is incredibly unsafe. You gotta have the proper footwear for construction, or else you'll get hurt!

Caught up on this show! I'm really love how important each member of the team is feeling, no one gets left out from helping reach the solution.

Also I'm loving Windom a lot more then I thought I would, I think it's the way it moves, which you can't really see from it just posing.

So I realized that Z's crest is less than Slugger-type crests and more like Ace's. Which is fascinating because Ace is the first original-looking Ultraman that doesn't resemble Ultraman and Seven, and pretty much one of his kind.

And considering that Z's crest has yet to be a slugger and may not possibly be, I think he it was possible that he's based on Ace.

Talking of Z designs... what exactly are the Seven and Leo inspirations on Alpha Edge? All I see is Zero 2

Supposedly Alpha Edge is less based on design elements of the 3 Ultras, and more because they all used the same "Space Martial Arts". Specifically, Z Alpha-Edge learns it from Zero, Zero learned it from Leo, and Leo learned it from Seven. Apparently that's also why Haruki chants "Space Martial Arts, the Inherited Fighting Technique!" before using the form, because the fighting style is being passed down to him and Z by its previous practitioners.

That's basically the premise of Ultraman Leo. After getting so injured by a Kaiju that he's unable to transform for the foreseeable future, he takes Ultraman Leo, a prince from a planet destroyed by a Kaiju, as an apprentice.

And then proceeds to torment the shit out of him.

Basically. An a somewhat related note, did we ever find out why Ultraseven didn't tell Zero that he was his father.

Wow, I must've picked the last possible minute to watch Episode 3.

(Yes, I know I'm behind, I'm just bad at this, okay?)

Captain Hebikura is most definitely the Juggler from the Orb series/universe. The Kaiju fusion he used in this episode was Zeppandon, a monster he made back in Orb using Zetton, Pandon, and Maga Orochi's tail, he even addresses it by say "It's been a while."

The Z-Lance Arrow debuted in this episode was apparently a weapon used by an Ultraman on earth thousands of years ago, which is why Z knows how to use it immediately (and why it's a remold of the Orb-Lance Slugger).

I hope Haruki learns from Riku that his captain is actually Juggler. The three need to work together!

Takanori Tsujimoto's direction in this one majorly impressed me. There's an almost endless list of individual things to point to, but overall, I think there was a constant sense of the camera getting real up close and personal with everything that made the episode feel crazy dynamic, on top of using some time-tested tricks like the "stuff shaking in a room" reaction shot to a monster falling over. (I'd really love to see a compilation of every time that's happened in the New Generation shows, by the way.) The episode also pulls that same kind of neat exaggerated perspective with the Z Lance Arrow at the end that was used in Taiga with the Tri Blade. I don't remember if that was only a Tsujimoto thing, but I did look up enough to know that was definitely in his episodes of that show. Cool to see it back!

As for the story this time, it's a lot of fun, but I have to wonder how well it would play to someone who hasn't seen Orb. I mean, they were hinting at Hebikura's shadier side from the premiere, so as usual, the plot makes sense completely on its own, but I get the feeling it'll be on an entirely different wavelength than the obviously intended "oh s***, Juggler's back!" reaction fans are going to be having.

Oh shit, Juggler's back!

God, this entire episode was just intense and popping every which way. It was cool to see Peguila in action and getting to do stuff (aka not getting jobbed by Ribut immediately to show him off). And it was just a genuinely intense fight and probably our best showing of Sevenger thus far with the little robot giving it everything he's got.

The aerial battle was also really cool from a camera and shot perspective, and I had to admit I was a bit surprised by the fact that we killed Peguila so early in. But then well, Juggler be Juggler and damn what a nostalgic but new feeling transformation they gave him that took cues from his one from the Orb Movie.

Which makes me excited to see Riku's transformation next week! Because man, what better way to debut Geed's new form than to bring back the enemy of Geed's Movie.

Loved the latest episode.

The use of all the little details, like the snowplow, the bikes, and especially the car flipping shot, were all some great highlights. This entire episode felt really cinematic in a way. Like it was an older kaiju film.

The fights felt intense, and I actually really like how the new weapon works. The fact the robots were mostly used in the fights and used really creatively too was a nice twist to keep things fresh.

I know nothing about Juggler but man he seems really interesting here. I wonder why he's here again? The final shot of him just looking to the camera really interests me, and wonder if he's aware of something.

Just all around a great episode (and I need to work on my wording of critiques ands stuff)

A small part of me worries that having Hebikura here be the first one to use a monster fusion in the show, with a dark palette swap of the Riser no less, will take away from when our show's actual villain does it for the first time. It is still really cool to see though.

The whole episode had so much fun just showing off, didn't it!? I particularly love that extended shot that was from the inside of a fake car, with junk flying everywhere and even reflecting in the rearview mirror!

On the opposite side of effects that still made me happy is the little cardboard vehicle in the opening few seconds of the episode, trucking along in the snow. That looked like something out of a puppet show but it was very cute...

Man, this episode was good. So much stuff happened but it didn't feel rushed at all. This show is just really fun to watch.

Juggler stealing Gai's transformation sequence is the most Juggler thing imaginable. I wonder how him being around is going to affect the show. What's he going to do? Will Geed recognise him next week?

Oh my god this episode. So good.

First, let's get the action out of the way. Holy cannoli! So many amazing camera angles, miniature work and effects! This is Ultraman at its absolute best, amazing work!

The plot served the story well, we get a classic "monster appears do to mankind's fault", with the added set piece of an ancient weapon left by another Ultraman. That I like for two reasons: First, of course, the classic Godzilla-trope, second: The weapon not just being summoned because we "unlocked it", but it also ties into lore of Ultraman visiting Earth through different periods, in some cases even settling / being born here (Victory).

The weapon is really neat by the way, I like it! Not too gimmicky but obviously toy-like, still cool though.

Then, the plot - first of all I really enjoyed the dynamic between Haruki and Yoko. Haruki obviously admires her and wants to be a professional like her, which enables him to grow beyond his limits. The limit being - only relying on the Ultra Z Riser. I really liked how Juggler snatched it away early on, which not only explains how he gets one but also forces Haruki to take action himself.

Lastly, Juggler. Man we simply don’t deserve this guy. It's so good to have him back. He was one of my favorite things about Orb, he was fantastic in the Geed movie, and now he’s a permanent part of Z as well! And it's so great to have his human persona integrated into the core cast, he's not just a mysterious dude who comes and goes, he's their captain!

I really wonder how he came to be in that position. But next week - oh lord, Geed is back. I mean, we knew about this, but... Z is awesome; we get Juggler, and now Geed? This show is spoiling is so hard and I love it.

PS. I was noticing how the co-existing between humans and monsters pretty much flew out of the window this season but – "professional monster exterminators"? Damn Haruki, Daichi is going to have a word with you someday!

As someone who has no idea what a Juggler is, I have no idea what is going on here. Like, the rest of the plot is great! It's well-filmed, it's dramatic, and the character stuff if pretty good. Not sure why they even built Windom since it's jobbing hard every episode, but hey, he's cool.

The problem is, we then spend half the episode on a character I feel like I'm supposed to recognise? And it makes me feel like I can't understand the plot without having seen, like, three other seasons. It's the same with the other villain - he pulls out a monster medal, and I feel like I'm just supposed to understand what it is, despite the fact I've never seen it before! And it's not as if they explain what Mr Juggler is, he's just kinda there and I'm supposed to lose my mind. (you know, despite the fact the only speculation I've seen on this board is 'The Chief is Juggler'). If he was a new alien, it would almost make more sense, because then I'd be speculating who he is, rather than thinking I'm already supposed to know? If that makes sense?

I knew this guy was trouble since the moment in episode 1 where he took one look at Genegarg and immediately went "that one is obviously the bad guy!". Yeah I know Haruki was right but still a really mean thing to just assume!

This is only Windom's second episode and first lost!

As for Juggler, I think your feelings might have to do with all the reactions around going 'oh my gosh, its juggler!!!'. Looking at the show in a vacuum, you're meant to be intrigued and surprised by the fact that our captain is some kind of alien and also wants to cause trouble for Z and Haruki. There's plenty of answers to be had about him in the rest of the show that won't require knowledge of previous lore, I'm confident.

I mean, probably, yes, but there's also how the show handles it. Juggler just shows up, does some magic, then leaves. Without past context, that's an odd debut for a villain, especially when our other villain has done very little in comparison! Like, if it had been the end of an episode, or a big dramatic moment for Juggler's first appearance, then sure, that's a twist even for a noob like me who's seen Nexus and like 10 episodes of R/B. But as is, he just comes out of nowhere 10 minutes in, and I'm meant to see that as a massive shock. Yes, if you take it completely out of context, it's weird there's a new alien here who just seems to want to cause shit, but that's it? It feels like, to enjoy the show as the creators intend, I can't just start here, I need to have been watching Ultra for years.

And, tbf, that's one of the big stumbling blocks against getting into it. From the constant use of past Ultras as collectibles, to Zero and Geed making cameos which I'm probably supposed to recognise, everything being a new expression of something old, I just feel like I'm watching something but not understanding anything. Don't get me wrong, this is me getting hung up on something minor, but the minor things add up and make me feel like I can't watch Ultraman without starting at the beginning or I won't properly *get* it. Idk, I don't really have a point.

I wonder if Gai will come back just to see his old "friend"
