New trailers up. We get to see the new suits, there's a divide between the Solds (some who want to protect humanity and some the humagears), Fuwa and Yaiba talk a bit in the AIMs van, Aruto has a request for Fuwa, and Fuwa "dying".

Ah, I suspected they'd be back but nice to hear it in the trailer, can't wait to hear the rest of Frontier.
Edit: The poster looks so cool! http://pbs.twimg.com/media/E4iXRYsXI...pg&name=medium |

That poster reminded me that, yes, Vulcan did have a signature pose besides his dual-grip finisher pose.

And I got the strange feeling Valkyrie is once again getting shafted...
I feel so bad for that character... |
Both Vulcan and Valkyrie look amazing, even better in motion. I've yet to see RealXTime and the Metsuboujinrai V-Cinema, but dang, does this look good. I doubt Fuwa will kick the bucket, but if he does, then I'm going to be sad.

So having seen it, I really enjoyed how it showcased Yua and Fuwa's mindsets as riders. What does it mean to have freedom? What does it mean to uphold justice? What does justice even mean? etc. It was very interesting.
And the ending really got me. I didn't see it coming, but from the final scene to the end of the credits, it had me really clenched up with emotions. I'm sure people are definitely not gonna like it. If I had one issue, it'd be that the fights didn't feel very engaging or look very interesting (Aside from two moments where I was like "Oh jeez"), but I ended up liking it for everything going on outside the suits personally. |
Yeah, this is for sure a fantastic outing for Yaiba -- there's a serious insight into her ideals of justice and it's great how it both clashes and parallels with Fuwa; and further how these also inform the wider themes of Humagear freedom. I wish the fates of certain characters were different but there's just very good stuff going on here

I guess I'll give my thoughts as well. I think Daimonji could be even more of a narcissist than Gai, since he attempts to validate himself to Yua by citing majority opinion, instead of actually making any effort to justify his own. His conversations with her all sound so self-entitled and condescending, treating her like a tool and expecting her to be completely subservient. He's a terrible person with no redeeming qualities and I don't like him at all!
The messages in these V-Cinemas are good, but I think they're a little blunt in their execution. Like Isamu literally declaring he hates "justice", which is in character, but not really the kind of line a role model should have, as it can easily be misunderstood. There was probably a more subtle way to convey something like that, like the spirit of justice is more important than the letter and people have their own ideas of what justice means to them. Yua was right that majority isn't absolute truth, but that was ridiculously easy to prove since there's no ambiguity about Daimonji being a complete a**hole. I like the symbolism here though, which is something that Zero One does with consistent profoundness. When you die honorably in battle, who guides you to Valhalla? A Valkyrie of course! It's very appropriate that Yua shows up just in time to send off Isamu in his last moments, which is depicted with him fading in to light in the credits. Kamen Rider Vulcan wasn't an idealistic hero fighting for love and peace, but he was always authentic and encouraged people to live freely. His death was sad, but it was also very heroic and I think that's exactly what he wanted. I'm proud of him. Lightning Hornet is still Valkyrie's best final form! |
