I think modern Who has screwed up a lot of perceptions of the series, honestly.

As much as John Hurt as the Doctor is perfect, I also loved him as a choice because it isn't another sexy Doctor pile of shit. The Doctor was never meant to be sexy, not conventionally anyway. I hate all this new emphasis on the Doctor being young and attractive with girls fawning around him, it makes him feel less special and more of a douchebag.

The Doctor should feel like Gandalf not Legolas.

The Doctor isn't always old though. Even in the classic series, we see the Doctor get younger (until the 6th, which slightly reversed that trend). Peter Davison is still the second youngest actor to start playing the Doctor. Still I agree that they could tone down the sexy bits in Doctor Who. Have more companions like Donna who don't want anything romantic with that "space-man". This goes for the tone of the entire series as well.

Seeing an older Doctor was a big part of my excitement as well. While I loved Matt Smith's "old guy in a young body" take, it would be really nice to have an older actor play the Doctor again. This may be the only time we can legitimately see one, as I don't think any mainstream incarnations of the Doctor in the future are going to be old-looking.

Hasn't it already aired in the US? Therefore is no longer a spoiler?

I don't just mean old, but the Doctor is now this young, hip, sexy man in a box and it's just all wrong. The Doctor was never ugly or whatever but he wasn't ever conventionally sexy either. There was supposed to be this strange, mystery around him, this quirky alien feel, Eleven just looks like he should be stood in a Topman window.

Don't get me wrong, I love Matt Smith as an actor, and Eleven is a great character but I just don't like the modern approach to the character visually.

I like putting spoiler tags just in case, I'm pretty sure quite a few people are still finding the time to watch it.

For me, I think Eleven does a decent job at playing a weird, eccentric spaceman despite his youthful appearance. I suppose that they tried to do more with it the way he dresses like the first three Doctors, but unfortunately (fortunately for the fangirls), he still looks great in a coat and bowtie. :lol

I do feel that Eleven is the more alien of the three New Series Doctors, though.

I find it hard to see him as an alien when he's flirting with women, snogging women and got women hanging off him all over the place. It feels like one of those 'hip reiamagings' studios do when they completely misunderstand the source material.

But yeah Ten was just as bad, I think Nine got off best in this regard, that is why a lot of the modern audience completely skip him and that fucking fills me with hatred.

Ten was worse actually. He definitely did fall for women more often. Eleven didn't really flirt with anyone much outside of River and the TARDIS, he always felt more grandfatherly to all those girls fawning over him. Yes, all the women hang off him, but he doesn't really do it much himself, I feel.

Nine wasn't thaaaat chaste, remember the bits of dialogue he exchanged with Jack Harkness?

The whole interaction between Clara and Eleven was flirtation.

And that is true about Nine, but let's be honest, how can you not flirt with Jack Harkness?

i just finished the season finale of doctor who and all i have to say is........ WHAT. THE. HELL. JUST. HAPPENED.

Here's an activity for you guys. Imagine BBC hired you as head writer, and you're to decide the characterizations and stories for a series featuring a new Doctor. Describe:

1. The Doctor: His personality, his characterization, his appearance, his speech, etc. Describe what sets him apart from the other eleven.
2. His Companion(s): Describe at least one companion; personality, age, time period, etc.
3. The theme: Describe what the theme or overaching plot of your series will be. If you don't think there should be one, describe it too. For extra creativity points, describe some stories such as the opening or the finale.

Apart from that, be creative. Describe what monsters you will include, any returning characters, what adventures he will embark on, where he will go, etc. You could even come up with new monster ideas if you feel extra creative.
