Episode 42 of Zyuranger. Honestly, going into this I didn't really expect a lot. Everyone knows what happens here, the show spends about twenty episodes building to it, and the episode title is even straight up "Burai Dies." Still, I do have to say it was very effectively moving, even though I never got that into Burai as a character. But the end, though, with Geki, Mei, and Boi crying on the beach and then Geki playing the Zyuosoeken while Burai rides off into the afterlife... man, that was actually really powerful.

And then the fucking ending theme comes on and totally ruins the mood. :lol

That's actually one of my favorite episodes. Lots of WTF moments :lol

Says the guy who love Kamen Rider Blade :p

It's only 10 episodes for Blade, barely over 3 hours worth of episodes. :p

So I watched episodes 18-29 of ZyuRanger today. I forgot that I was in the midst of a 4 part arc when I stopped watching, as I would have stopped at 27. Nevertheless, except for the DoraPixie episode, it has been very pleasurable to watch these all again, but subbed this time. In fact, I am thinking about doing a MMPR S1 vs ZyuRanger panel at my anime convention in Sept and showing the DoraFrog/Terror Toad episodes. I never realized that Grifferzor never talked before because he couldn't. I always thought it was just that he had nothing to say until Lami came around. So that was a nice surprised with the subs. I mean, it isn't anything truly important, but it was interesting (as was the first thing he says to Lami about going home to do laundry).

Watched the first seven episodes of Kakuranger today. Really fantastic show. I am so happy that it's finally getting subbed.

It is hell of 90's though. :lol Which is a good thing. :)

Might start Jetman tonight, since I need my Black Condor fix.

I don't know if I want to watch Kaku as it's released or just wait until the end of the year...

I've begun torrenting the first 7 of it. I need something that's deliciously 90's that I haven't seen yet, so this is perfect. I doubt I'd have the patience to watch it all at the end of the year though. I find with older Toku it's much easier for me to watch it in segments anyway or I'll get bored.

Just watch it as it's released. You can always treat it like a weekly...or a monthly. :p

Oh yes I have. Sun Vulcan is the most boring and overrated sentai out there. The entire internet praises it and then when you actually watch it the consensus on boards like this is that it's terrible :lol Which it is. Incredibly slow, boring, and awful.

How far did you get before you fell asleep and gave up? :lol

I fell asleep once every 3-4 episodes! But I never gave up, I actually finished it. And I will likely NEVER watch any of it again.

Where did you get the first 7 episodes from? The only ones I know that are subbing it is Hikari Senshi and they only have up to episode 4 out.
Really? I can marathon the series from the 90s more than any others. Of course, it also helps that half of those in the 90s were only 18 minutes long as opposed to the 22 minutes of those from the last 15 years. That added 4 minutes has really broken a show for me at times. I can pretty much get through most series in 3 days if I am not working those days or have any distractions like people bothering me or something.

Oh how I missed having the time to just marathon Gundam Wing in 2 days...

GUIS has teamed up with Hikari Senshi to sub the series. They said they'll be releasing it at the same pace as Zyuranger last year.

Endured fare more than I. I think I made it 4 episodes, falling asleep at least 3 times trying to watch episode 2 :lol

I never recommend watching all of Sun Vulcan to anyone. So many hours I'll never get back :(

Watched the first episode of Flashman that just got released today. Very 80's Sentai. Not the best first episode ever, mainly because the Flashmen themselves didn't get much characterization. The villains seem interesting though.

I really like what I have seen with Flashman (the first 20 episodes), but it does have some really dumb episodes. Still, while that is cool that someone is now subbing it, I wish these people that started subbing Sentai series would actually commit to finishing it in a descent amount of time. I'm not trying to bash fansubbers, as they work hard and are doing it on their free time, but when you are waiting like 5+ years just for a series to be completed, it gets annoying. It makes me wonder what the point of them even doing it was to begin with.

Well it is still the same group doing it. Hikari Senshi is still doing this, it's just in collaboration with GUIS to help speed up the process. No complaints here though. I'm happy to watch a show I've never seen before, and 7 episodes at a time is perfect for me.

Yeah. Sometimes it seems some groups bite off more than they can chew, trying to sub 4 or 5 series at once, slowing their release schedule to an abysmal rate.

See, when I watch a series, I want to watch it all within a week (unless it is One Piece, as that is impossible). For example, I watched the first 17 episodes of ZyuRanger this past Thursday, I watched 18-29 yesterday, and because I have Monday and Tuesday off, I'm going to finish it then (preferably on Monday).

After that, I might attempt to continue where I left off in Gobuster before I move on to either my Gokaiger Blu-Rays or the Jetman fansubs.

Okie Dokie lokie. Decided to just watch Kaku as it's released rather than wait for a full series batch.

So, episode 1 thoughts. It was interesting. While I enjoyed it, I must say, I don't get the framing device of the man at the table. It's rather odd. I was thinking he'd be an episode opener and closer, then he popped up in the middle. Didn't see that coming.

I love the very comic book esque feel the action scenes have, with the sound effects popping on screen.
Also, I died laughing during the "Brush your teeth!" line. I have no clue why, but I found it hysterical :lol

That said, I thought I hated the foot soldiers. Then the ending MV happened.

So yeah, Kakuranger. I was right. I knew I'd like it. The pilot could be better, but considering I hate pilots (Geki's included), it's off to a decent start.

As I understand they drop him by the midway point of the series. Not entirely sure when.

That's nice. What's mildly amusing now could easily slip into the realm of obtrusive and annoying.

I also caught the first episode of Kakuranger last night. It was pretty good after all. Nothing crazy memorable to me yet but I did enjoy it.

The narrator is actually a child story teller from my understanding, and they wanted to do something a bit different with KakuRanger. Essentially, Zyu, Dai, and Kaku were all experiments Toei was trying something new with since their head writer had just retired with Fiveman, so they each did something different. Plus, they started the show out on a lighter foot due to how serious DaiRanger had been.

KakuRanger is broken into essentially two acts. The first act is a more comedic approach, light hearted, with the story teller giving the stories about the Yokai and narrating the show. The second act occurs around episode 24 when the **** hits the fan and the narrator is knocked out of the show and the series takes a more serious approach for the remainder of its episodes. Sure, it still has its goofball moments, especially when it deals with Blue and Yellow, but the themes are on a darker side of the spectrum.

KakuRanger is my second favorite Sentai series of all time, and I do look forward to watching it subbed when it is fully completed.

Ah. Alright then. I'm rather curious now as to how dark it'll get.
Can't wait for more of the series to be subbed.

Also, I've seen the Xmas episode (45, I think). The framing device is gone by then at the very least. I don't like that guy either, so just knowing it goes away is helpful.

PS I need to rewatch the first 4 episodes as they've changed the translation rules for the current subs.

Honestly, I love the narrator. He's just so damn insane that I can't help but like him. :lol

Plus, he fits in with the overall cheesiness that the show has at the moment. Be certain to shave daily. And always brush your teeth.:D

Started torrenting GUIS' first batch of Kakuranger, because I'm burnt out on the shows I have been watching, and Rescue Fire's low seed count is breaking me.

Once you get past the initial shock of that old man, I think you'd enjoy it.

Like seriously. Just watched episode 2. Things going fine, then BAM. He shows up.
Anyway, Youkai are weird. Like that lady with the elongated neck...

Yeah. I just saw the first episode. Seems like a good show. And I actually like the old man.

I don't hate him, perse. He's just intrusive, breaking the flow of an episode to give background on a youkai or whatever (Granted, I personally have no idea what these youkai are, but still :p)

Yeah, like explaining what a Kappa was. And only because the Yokai on screen looked a like kappa when he wasn't pretending to be a little girl or psychotic middle-aged man with green lipstick :lol

While I knew what a Kappa was, I had no idea what the hell the long necked/octopus lady was in episode 2. So he kinda helped there.

BTW, I loved Kappa's human form :lol

When I heard him talk about what a Kappa was, the one thing that popped into my mind was the alien baby thing from Carranger.

It seems no matter how weird I think something is, there's always something weirder out there that makes me stare in awe.

So you know how I always rag on that one episode of Goseiger where Eri shirks her Ranger duties to bake a little boy a birthday cake? Well I just watched episode 46 of Zyuranger, in which the team are being hounded by civilians after some imposters start attacking people. And how do they handle it? By hiding out in an old lady's house and baking her a birthday cake. (really wish we had tfw's banging your head against a wall emoticon right now)
