Charade - I saw a trailer for this back in March when I went to see North by North West on the big screen so I picked it up on BD and finally watched it. It was utterly fantastic. The acting was incredible. The one liners were hysterical. The movie had excellent pacing and an intriguing story. I swear that these guys were all villains Blofeld rejected from Spectre. :lol The only part I can really fault the movie for was it was kind of predictable, but aside from that, I easily give it a 9/10. I've only seen two movies with Cary Grant now, but that man rocks. So does the girl he was with in this thing.
Dragon Ball Curse of the Blood Rubbies - A decent movie that tries to condense Goku first meeting a lot of his friends in a short time frame with a new villain behind it. It was not bad for being the very first Dragon Ball movie, as it was funny, but it seemed like some of the shots were just copied from the animation in the episodes. I'll give it a 6/10. Dragon Ball The Sleeping Princess in Devil's Castle - Not sure why, but this one was kind of boring. The villains just weren't that interesting and the movie did not really go anywhere. Overall, I'm going to say it gets a 5/10 stars because it wasn't horrible, but it should have been much better. |
Countdown to the 25 Days of Christmas marathon:
The Wizard of Oz (1939): http://cdn8.openculture.com/wp-conte...-original1.jpg In this timeless classic, a young girl gets sucked into a tornado and is taken to the land of Oz. There she meets a scarecrow, a tin man, and a cowardly lion. Together, they set off on a journey to find the Emerald City and to find the Wizard of Oz so the girl can get back home.... They also kill a bitch of a witch. Despite this movie being made at the end of the 1930's, this movie still holds up well today. This is one of those movies where you can't reboot it and it still be the same. Heck, this movie doesn't even need a sequel or a prequel to make it better. *gives Disney the death glare* The soundtrack for The Wizard of Oz is one of the most well known and beloved soundtracks of all time. Most people have heard of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow", "If I only had a Brain", and "We're Off To See the Wizard." This is one of those movies where you have to see it just once to love it..... WITHOUT the use of prequels or sequels. *gives Disney another death stare* I give this movie 10 cowardly lions out of 10. After note: Wait a second..... a girl... a scarecrow.... a tin man.... a lion.... flying monkeys http://www.morphinlegacy.com/wp-cont...6_17-34-08.jpg God damn it, Toei!!!! |
Just saw Big Hero 6, and wow did I love it, even more than I thought I would. What a cute, cool, and colorful movie. Really, watch it if you're at all a fan of toku (which you might be).

Two movies this week!
Mockingjay, awesome movie, better than first two. Interstellar, quite a zany, surreal movie. Very thought-provoking and a wonderful out-of-this-world experience. Quote:

Child's Play 2 - The movie was not bad for a sequel. It had some really dumbass moments, and a few things that did not make sense, but otherwise, it could have been a lot worse. I'm going to give it a 6/10 since it was not better than the first one.
|
I saw the back half of Clerks from my dad watching t.v. It's a good movie from what I saw. I thought the schnanigans with the main character's ex towards the end was very unrealistic.

Seriously, everyone going to see this movie: STAY FOR THE POST CREDITS STINGER! It is glorious! |
Well, I watched Guardians of the Galaxy today. It is fraking awesome. The characters are lovable, the movie isn't too long, and the ending s unexpected. Well, I didn't expect it. Plus, Howard the Duck. No-one expected that. This is the movie that made me tear up at a living tree. I give it 10/10. Now to wait until Age of Ultron :D
|
I watched Robocop again earlier today, still need to see the remake even if it does seem... undesirable.
|
My mother wanted to watch The Hundred-Foot Journey for a while and we finally located it, while not made in Bollywood it does have the influence and it shows in it's constant mood changes.
It's also rather predictable, but not bad per se, it was a fun afternoon. |
Child's Play 3 - Well that was just down right stupid. It wasn't scary. It had no suspense. The death scenes were bland. And the story was just dumb. I give it a 3/10 stars. It can only go up after this one, right?
Bride of Chucky - It is nice that they finally realized how dumb this concept was and decided to ditch the horror/slasher genre and decided to just make a comedy. This movie was absolutely hilarious with such great one liners and insults. I give it a 4/10 because everything else was just flat out stupid as ****, but the execution was a laugh riot. |
I watched Batman Returns this afternoon, it was pretty good.
|
I saw the Lego movie with my friends and everything about this movie is awesome. I've seen metahumor before, but to see this amount and to this level to me is unheard of. I love how cool everything looks and all the random tangents some of the jokes go onto. There's an amazing twist in the movie and it fucking blew my mind.
The best thing of all is that it didn't feel like a toy commerical. I feel like the writers struck enough of a balance between having to put new stuff in there to sell and reusing old LEGOs, in order to further add to the diversity and message of the movie. |

25 Days of Christmas:
Day 1: Shrek (2001) http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/...0/shrek460.jpg Ok. The first person to make a joke about this gets kicked in the miracle sack. So, if you don't know, Shrek is a movie about an ogre who gets hired by a midget to find a sexy princess. He is accompanied by a talking ass, and his sole purpose for this mission is to get his swamp back, which has been the dump site for thousands of fairy tale creatures. I like this movie. I guess you could say that it is.... ... http://static.fjcdn.com/comments/You...b8e76cb658.jpg *gets shot* I give this 9 Onions out of 10. |
25 Days of Christmas:
Day 2: Garfield (2004) Well.... That was dumb. The movie could have been better, and the only thing I liked about it was Garfield's character. They managed to get THAT right. Everything else was just 'meh'. I give this 4 CGI Cats out of 10. |
25 Days of Christmas:
Day 3: Power Rangers: Clash of the Red Rangers: The Movie http://morphinlegacy.com/wp-content/...1/11/clash.jpg Yes.... I know that this is commonly seen as two episodes in one. But due to the fact that it is a TV Movie...... Backstory time: This movie is a combination of the Japanese movies Samurai Sentai Shinkenger vs. Go-Onger: Ginmaku Bang and Samurai Sentai Shinkenger The Movie: The Fateful War, as well as the Shinkenger episode Act 36: The Curry Samurai. Well..... Yay for RPM Red returning.... Yay for the Sharkzord appearing.... that was about it.... I feel like this could have been a whole lot better. They could have brought in the other RPM Rangers for this episode (Eka Darville used an alias for the ADR work) and made it a proper team up. But for what it is, it's..... watchable. Quote:
I give this 5 Sharkzords out of 10. Also, what the hell ever happened to Sharkjaw? |
The Hobbit 1 EE - 7/10. Great movie but did not need to be 3 hours long.
|
After many long moths, I finally got around to watching the best Marvel movie yet. Guardians of the Galaxy was absolutely amazing, the only thing wrong with it was the fact that I wasn't watching it on a full-sized theatre screen. It is probably one of the olny movies I would go and see if it got a theatrical re-release. 10/10.
|
The Hobbit 2 EE - Great movie even if a good portion of it is not supposed to be there. On the other hand, Legolas never ceases to be Mr Perfect with his character shields set to the max. UGH!! The new scenes are fantastic, especially the one with the Bear dude and crossing a swamp that puts one of the Dwarfs to sleep. Overall, I give it a 7/10.

The Muppet Christmas Carol is on Netflix.
I should NOT have watched this while sick. Gets me right in the cold, dead heart. Its one of my favorite samples of Dickens' story with memorable songs and true emotional moments. However there are several bits that are Creepy As Hell! The lead-up to Marley & Marley gave me nightmares when I was a kid. And the Ghost Of Christmas Yet To Come stayed in my thoughts even longer... |
Scrooged - A good movie that I enjoy a bit more with each viewing and it is an interesting take on Dickens' story. I give it a 7/10 stars.

The Hobbit This Did Not Need to be 3 Movies - The third installment of the Hobbit movies is one that brings a lot of great moments to the table, but it also adds a lot of negatives to the fray. This movie did not need to exist at all as there was so much left to be desired when it came to Smaug. His plot was just done in the first 10 minutes of the movie, which made it utterly pointless to even have his story continue here. They should have just ended it in the last movie. Also, most of the subplots that were made up for the movies have absolutely no pay off whatsoever, also making them nothing more but time padding. As always, Legolas has his character shields up to full capacity as he is still perfect in every way, making him the most frustrating character here, especially when he does not even belong in this story. The battle drags on for way too long and seems poorly edited at times. On the other hand, the music, sound effects, and cinematography were as fantastic as always. The dwarves remain bland and uninteresting as there is nothing to distinguish one from another, making them for some very boring characters with once again, little payoff. In fact, Saruman, Galadriel, and Elrond easily steal the show away from every other character and they are only on screen for maybe five minutes. Bilbo is great as always, but the only reason you want to see this character's adventure is to see how he gets to the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Overall, the movie gets a 6/10 stars. There are two amazing movies to be found in what is currently three okay to good movies. It is a shame Jackson and WB let the dragon's sickness get to them and turned it into three over blown, underwhelming movies.

Just saw Big Trouble in Little China. That was one of the weirdest, funniest things I've ever seen.
|
We did a Zemeckis double feature today with both The Polar Express and A Christmas Carol. I love both of them, but PE could use about 10 minutes of its run time shaved off. Nevertheless, I give PE a 7/10 and ACC a 9/10.
Batman Returns - The Alamo Drafthouse was showing this tonight in 35mm so we went to it. I've never hated this movie, as it is a good Tim Burton movie that features Batman, but as a Batman movie, it sucks. It just takes way too many liberties with the characters for my liking be it Penguin being more Killer Croc than Penguin, Bruce Wayne sitting around at home until the Bat Signal goes off, Bruce stupidly ripping off his cowl, etc. The movie actually would have been so much stronger had it just been Max in charge of the Circus Gang and Catwoman being the main rogue instead of her and Penguin. Lastly, the music in this movie is absolutely amazing. Overall, I give it a 7/10 stars. |
Penguins (2014)
It took two Platinum Superstar gift cards to see this but it was worth it. The penguins were loveable rouges that for the most part worked as a team. The bulk of their drama has them deal with two problems they inadvertly caused: A wrathful octopus that wishes to deform all penguins due to his abuse by human hands and for the most part his story was interesting. While he hated the penguins he never wanted to kill them and he has a oddly humorous relation with his henchmen. He isn't the greatest foe for the Pengiuns (that honor goes to Dr. Blowhole) but he held the plot together for the most part. The second was North Wind. Introduced as a well meaning rival team that saves animals they ultimately proved themselves as flawed heroes; although they are heroic and their overall goal is noble they have a rather bad habit of stroking their own egos and it's this shared character flaw that brings the film to its climax as Private really proves his worth as a valued member of the team. Speaking of Private his fears of just being seen as a pretty face as the other members speak down at him made me feel bad for him. While he is the youngest he's far from incompetent and his drive to better himself is something I feel is a good lesson for kids and adults alike. In a way the Penguins are a better animal team than the 2012 TMNT ( to the turtles' credit they're not as bad as Team Redakai) I feel I got my money's worth with this flick. If you wish to see it be forewarned you may have to deal with loud children. |

So I watched The Santa Clause, it's my favorite Christmas movie of all time. And for the first time ever tonight, a though popped in my head. Scott inherits the duties of Santa once he puts on the suit. And we learn in 2 he has to be married to keep being Santa (which doesn't make sense because he goes 10 years without one, but I digress). What happened to the Mrs. Clause of the Santa before Scott? Did she up and vanish too?

Christmas Carol George Scott Version - It has some really great atmosphere and I love their version of Future, but I am not a fan of Marley, Tiny Tim, and Ghost of Xmas Present here. Tiny Tim's handicap is played up way too much and they try to get this really sweet looking kid to amp it up to make the audience feel sorry for him, and it just doesn't work for me. Also, as much as I love David Warner, he is probably my least favorite actor for Bob. The Ghost of Xmas Present is just way too mean spirited, so the times when he is supposed to reuse Scrooge's words against him don't have the same effect to me. Finally, I just find the way they did Marley's Ghost to be lazy as if they did not have the budget to keep him opaque for the entire visit. Oh yeah, and I just don't feel convinced by Scott's sudden change of heart as I do with others like Sim and Carrey. It seems more like he is, "OKay, I'll change because that is what I am supposed to do," rather than it feeling natural. Nevertheless, as I said, the movie does have wonderful atmosphere, music, and it has really great costumes and make up, so I gie it a 7/10 stars.

y'know, after watching the last Hobbit movie, I have this massive itch to go back to Lord of the Rings again. like, this is one of my most favorite fantasy franchises and Return of the King is a masterpiece if you ask me.

Saw Home Alone

Got roped into seeing the recent "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles."
This film is atrocious. The story makes no sense even by 80s toy commercial standards, the acting is ten kinds of horrible, the characters have virtually no development, the fight scenes are badly shot with lazy effects, and several chucks of the story appear to have been ripped off from "The Amazing Spider-Man"- which was ALSO horseshit. |
Were you expecting anything different from a movie that featured Megan Fox in it and those ugly ass giants called Ninja Turtles?
The Third Man - Despite being about maybe 15 minutes too long, this movie was very good. I loved the mystery going on either though it was predictable. THe music and characters were good, but it was the cinematography and that amazing chase scene in the sewer that really drove this movie for me. That was nothing short of spectacular. I give it a 7/10 stars. Sleepaway Camp - This movie was just flat out dumb. Now maybe it was because Watchmojo talked about the twist in several of their videos so the impact was lost, but I was more bored than anything else. It seemed like it was just trying to be Friday the 13th, but only half as good as that. Not only that, but the lack of any actual climax also took me out of it. I give ita 5/10 stars. Big Eyes - Tim Burton has been one of those directors that has stuck around for longer than he should. He had a great run in the late 80s and 90s, but once we hit the 2000s, his movies were more misses than hits. The biggest issue is that his movies are all the same. Well Big Eyes has come out and thankfully it is something far different from what Burton has given us in recent years, but it is still far from spectacular. The movie does a really good job in its pacing, and its story is pretty good, but it still leaves a lot to be desired. The biggest issue with the movie is in Christolph Waltz. He is a fantastic actor, but here he just feels out of place. It seems like he wanted to play the character eccentric like his characters of the past, but because he had to play it like a real person, he was denied to be himself. As such, his talents are not only wasted, but they bring the movie done quite a bit. Amy Adams does do a great job as Margaret though and she does show the passion for the person she is portraying. The ending does seem a little abrupt though, but whatever. It is far from being anything horrible from Burton, but it isn't a movie that can restore my faith in the once grandiose director. Overall, I give it a 6/10 stars. If you are a Burton fan, this movie is a good one time watch. If you want to see a movie based on a real person that I don't think has ever been touched upon before, it is also a good movie to check out. If you don't care about either of those, don't even waste your time with it. Out of the Past - While this is not my favorite Film Noir I have watched this year, it wasn't bad. It was quite good and I felt like there were a few vibes to Double Indemnity in it. I will admit, I did lose a little bit of what was going on towards the end there, but nothing too terrible. Overall, I give it a 7/10. |

You mean magic blood? I was okay with the designs and the action but in retrospect the ending....*scratches head ... yeah. |
Quote:
*Superpowered blood as major plot point *Serious daddy issues brought on by asinine secret-keeping *Main character has answers hidden away that they forgot about until movie story began *Villain's plan involves exposing large portions of the city to airborne toxin *Entire final battle takes place atop skyscraper antenna that contains said toxin which heroes must stop with barely any time remaining. |
