Maybe I should go watch Yugioh GX again the Japanese dub. Its the Yugioh series I am the most fond of and grew up with. And it was the sexond to last Yugioh series where it'd go the modern Rider route and try to put selling merchsndise at the forefront. "HEY GUYS LOOK AT MY 5TH FORM OF UTOPIA FIGHTING NUMBER 107!!!" That's cool for you Yuma. But I think I should probably get some more action series or more anime series in generslly under my belt first.

Coupling the fact that over the space of the last four months, I've finished like ten toku series, caught up on others, dropped countless others and I'm on a massive mech hype, I decided to take a break from toku so I still have stuff left to watch and concentrate on anime again, something I kinda fell out of love with as I grew older, I decided that I'm gonna be rewatching Tekkaman Blade now the Figmas are out and I'm gonna be having my first viewing of G-Gundam.
So Tekka 01. The animation hasn't aged all that well... which is a shame because for the most part the action was great and at least when they are standing still, the designs are really awesome. But it's like as soon as they actually had to move every detail from the art design was taken out. The plot hasn't faired much better with time either, so much of Tekka has been done to death since this show aired, so it's hard to appreciate the plot, even if it came so much earlier. Also D-Boy is the worst name for a protagonist ever. |
I recently watched Mawaru Penguindrum.
All of the central characters were great, the plot was interesting, although a bit confusing at points. The individual episodes were usually pretty great, although I felt it did get a few slow episodes around the middle. I also thought it did a really good job bringing everything together for the ending, it's just an overall spectacular series. I sadly don't think I got extremely popular, I rarely even see people talking about it. I guess this might come from the fact it aired around the time as multiple extremely popular series, such as Steins;Gate and Madoka Magica, although as much as I enjoyed those two, I thought Penguindrum was a much better show than both of them. It is definitely one of my favorite anime series. |

Subsequently, I also started to watch Ronin Warriors, because that's the only version of Samurai Troopers I own. It's showing it's age as well, but that henshin sequence is downright beautiful. Just finishes episode three while getting ready for work, the team just got dispersed. |
I'd never even heard of Mawaru Penguindrum until now, so I checked out the MAL page and man it sounds awesome, gonna have to check this out.

Also, has anyone else seen and loved and worshipped Patlabor 1 and 2 as I have? 2 is a little weaker, but Patlabor 1 is a masterwork of Japanese Anime Cinema. |

Agreed, these were machines first and foremost, and were treated as such by the production staff. And the storytelling and animation, the pacing was appropriate and I just got swept up into the story. Even to this day. Dangit, I know what I'm watching tonight. |

G-Gundam 2. Visually this show is stunning given its age, both in how well animated it is but also in the vision of the future it depicts in its world, it is all wrapped up in some great sound design and music.
Maxter was really cool, I love how it wasn't in your face about it, but made it very American nontheless, for a show this ridiculous I'm impressed it hasn't divulged in insulting parody but that might come later, the US are usually easy targets though. Also you gotta love the Shining Gundam smashing out of the statue of liberty with Kasshu's ridiculous finger click and GUNDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM The action in this show is fantastic as well, I know it isn't for everyone but I much prefer these 'Super Robo' style shows than the kind of mech shows that treat the mechs as very delicate, very complicated pieces of tech. I'm a big kid honestly. It's just a shame Maxter went down so quickly, the Gundam Fights aren't always gonna be tacked on at the end of the episodes are they? Also absolutely nothing about the Gundam fight makes sense, if they just wanted DBZ with Gundam then that would be fine, I don't understand why they keep pretending to have a plot then put no effort into it. |
You have to remember, it's still Gundam. Considering all the changes G Gundam did compared to every other Gundam series beyond SD (To the point that G is considered the black sheep of the Gundam franchise), they needed some kind of needlessly large plot (Not necessarily complex, just large), less they risk Gundam fans rioting in the streets :p

Been watching the World God Only Knows in preperation for the third season. Someone tell DaiRiderRX that I discovered a better pink haired idol then Luka... KANON! :D

So Macross... Some Zentradi have defected, and things are getting really interesting. |

So I watched the first episode of Penguindrum, it brought back a LOT of bad memories which are still pretty raw, so as such I couldn't work out if the 2deep4u approach and general melodramatic tone made the show easier to watch or more insulting. That, coupled with the weird incestuous overtones had me about ready to turn off the show. But I gotta admit, I'm a sucker for a mystery, especially when it's centred around super cute penguins. So I'll give it a few more eps.

As for me. I just finished episode 7 of the World God Only Knows... Man I I love Kanon's arc. It's spectacular! My one nitpick with the show is only with the dub, and that's the fact that they didn't re-dub the songs sung by the characters into English so it's a bit distracting when English speaking characters suddenly start singing in Japanese. But that's how far I have to stretch just to nitpick. Still a great dub of a great show, and Kanon's arc is probably the best of the whole series. Why didn't they just end the series with this one? Now I have to sit through... Shiori. :( Here's hoping for the best. Edit: Oh, there's a filler episode before Shiori's arc. :lol |

Well crap...the surface of earth has been reduced to rubble...I was REALLY hoping that Macross wouldn't go there. At least (I think) it recovers.

That guy will do anything with a paycheck attached as long as he has some free time. Probably didn't have to pay him a ton since it likely only took a couple of days to run through the lines. Big actors like voice work because for most of them it's quick to do and fills in some down time between projects. |
Tekka 02, man this show is epic. Just a shame that the animation is so dated, so it's never quite as epic as it might seem. Still the action is hella thrilling and there are really great quiet moments as well, like the trip through the Orbital Ring which is now just a graveyard.
Sadly, I'm really not feeling the show outside of the visuals/action. The story is so far uninspiring, and so the character moments fall flat, plus I hate the archetype Nolan fits into and the fact he never deviates from that stock character makes him unbearable at times. |

After refreshing my memory, Samuel L. Jackson helped get the anime made. He got ahold of the test trailer and found US companies people to make it by being the face of the project. Of course he was going to be in it (he's also the ninja dude). It also aired in the US on Spike TV first. The first Japanese airing was even shown in English with Japanese subtitles. |
G-Gundam 03.
Man the depiction of Neo China is so ridiculous and I'm not sure if I'm meant to be offended but it's also really awesome. Plus the Dragon Gundam is probably the coolest Gundam yet (I remember nothing from the first Gundam and although Maxter had a cool fighting style it was still kinda bland). It's just a shame the kid is so annoying. I'm not sure I like this shows pace, the way Domon is just there, I mean I know we can assume he's just travelling from location to location but I start every episode wondering if I skipped an episode by accident. |
Tekkaman Blade 03 was pretty boring, to be fair. I know that Military dude isn't supposed to be liked, but watching him be a massive immature baby throwing tantrums for fifteen minutes was fucking ANNOYING. Also, I'm getting kinda bored of seeing D-Boy fighting waves of insects, please come back Dagger. Still, VOLTEKKA!!!

I think that is how most of it plays. Pretty much every Gundam design in the series is a stereotype in some way. It sort of makes sense that the various nation's want their Gundam to stand out and represent their culture. You will see more as the series goes. The only problem is that the Neo Japan Gundam just looks like a normal Gundam with the white/red/blue color sceme. It does have the standard head but the design doesn't scream Japan in the way Dragon Gundam does China for example. |
