Tokullectibles is carrying the Genesis Riders set. Slightly cheaper than a middle man, way cheaper than BBTS, and not as OCD inducing as trying to catch it on Mandarake.
If Bluefin were to carry this Genesis Riders set (sadly doesn't look like they are), it would be at most $4 less than Tokullectibles' price. The Golden Kuuga set and Genesis Rider set are of a similar price in Japan. The Golden Kuuga set on Bluefin was $76 after shipping, the Genesis Riders set on Tokullectibles is $80 after shipping. Do note that Tokullectibles takes payment is up front, just like Bluefin. Either you can pay it in full up front or half now, and half later. The latter charges shipping, paying it all up front gets you free shipping. https://tokullectibles.com/products/...esis-rider-set |
It's also worth noting that the owner of Tokullectibles is just a cool guy. He is a fan of toku himself and just wants the stuff to be more accessible to US fans. He works with Bluefin directly and supporting his store is a direct message to Bandai that we want their stuff!

Yes, and this is the first time since the Time Mazine set that Tokullectibles has carried a SO-DO PB set. The Time Mazine set didn't sell well at all. So I'd like this to go well for them so we'll have another option on future sets.

Just spent 20ish mins doing a quick paint up on my Shodo Hyper Kabuto. I'll probably paint the wings the next time I airbrush something but for now I'm pretty happy with it. Took advantage of the Shodo's aren't always painted cleanly to justify the mess. :p
Edit: Does anyone know why my attachments always get rotated sideways? How do I fix that? |

I would honestly just wait and grab this set on the aftermarket. As much as I love SO-DO and appreciate the effort that Bluefin put in to be able to sell this to us, you could buy all 3 of those characters in Figuarts form right now, secondhand, and it would only be slightly more expensive. All 3 of them are less than 30 USD, each. The whole appeal of SO-DO, for me, is each figure basically costs less than 10 USD. As high quality as they are, I find that 3 candy toy figures for 80 USD is kind of nuts. Aside from a very select few boxes, I've never had issues getting my hands on Premium Bandai exclusive SO-DO boxes on the aftermarket. I'm gonna wait and see what happens. If I miss out, I'm not a huge fan of the 3 Energy Riders anyways lol Quote:

I'm leaning towards getting them through Tokullectibles, since the free shipping makes the $80 more reasonable. (I'd probably end up paying $15-$20 shipping for these anywhere else.) Also, hey, supporting a store that is looking to see if there's P-Bandai SO-DO demand? That feels like a good place to spend my money. Still, I haven't pulled the trigger yet. Definitely going to think on it. Thanks for feedback, everybody! |
Also, Tokullectibles ships out of NJ so if you're on the east coast you'll get things quicker. I'm in NY and it only takes 2 days from when its shipped.
I've only started ordering from them this year due to all the troubles with international shipping, but I've been more than happy with the results. |

Was browsing through Nin Nin Game to get a better idea of their prices and realised that their listing of the Energy Riders set is just under 60 dollars before shipping. So that's probably a decent options.

Do you guys have thoughts on SHODO-X Kabuto(the newer one) and Hyper Kabuto? I'm strongly debating getting them, but I'm hesitating because the shoulders look...really weird. Are they connected by a hinge or anything? Is it just a chunk of soft plastic, like how Figuarts sometimes does with skirts and capes? It seems like most SHODO-X figures have the shoulders attach to the torso, like the actual suits in the shows, so how does it work exactly?
I touch and play with my figures a lot, so this is important to me. While we're at it, how do SHODO-X figures feel overall? I know they use soft plastic a lot more often, which is an almost alien concept to me since I've only collected SO-DO, so far. |
SHODO figures defitely feel a little 'gummier', for lack of a better term, but for cheap little candy toy figures, they're fine. Shoulders are pretty much attached to the shoulders on a thin strip of plastic, the articulation on them isn't great, but again, it's like £2 a figure (not including shipping ofc), they're fine.

Yeah, they're even cheaper than SO-DO, so I don't mind a few compromises, but that is the one concern I have. |
Nah, not really. Like, the attachment is thin, but it's strong enough that I've never felt like the shoulder pad's just going to get ripped off by me handling it.
|
Thanks for your input. I'm sold. Kabuto was my first series, but I have no Kabuto merch to display. This seems like a great option along with Hyper Kabuto.
Also, it was just revealed that we're getting the Invading Horse Shoe Crab Raider AND the Battle Raider in Saber Book 2! I'm really disappointed that I'll be waiting another month for SO-DO Buster, but that's awesome. |
Also, SO-DO Update time! We hav the Hard Boys! Aka the Crab Raiders, Thouser's goons, etc.
https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...1106151117.jpg They come with a generic gun. It goes bang bang. https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...1106151134.jpg Thouser getting his arse kicked. https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...1106152241.jpg There's also a slightly modified set - it comes with Humagear Headphones and a belt filler to form a Battle Raider (aka those drones from the 01/Zi-O movie!) https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...1106151238.jpg All this comes out 30th November, along with the rest of Saber 2! Also, a bunch of nice photos of the last couple from Gaim! Sour Grapes boy: https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...1105214308.jpg https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...1105214815.jpg And his older brother, the melon man. https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...1105215051.jpg https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...1105215131.jpg There's also a couple of Arms Changes here. Sadly, you don't get alternate eye stickers by the looks of it, but it's nice to see them showing it off. https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...1105215821.jpg https://cdn-ak.f.st-hatena.com/image...1105215835.jpg And that's that! No Saber news (*cough Slash cough*) till next week! |
Ryugen Melon Arms is deeply cursed.
But yeah, they did clarify specifically that they'd include alternate stickers for forms that appeared on the show. I was hoping though that they'd have alternate stickers for these specific ones, since they DID actually appear in the HBV. |
Man, the Battle Raiders look good here!
Would be nice to get bigger figures of them. |

So the reveals this week are: Both variants of the Invading Horseshoe Crab trooper are in Book 2. Book 2 is a wave of 12, meaning (hopefully) everything is one per case. EDIT: Weird, it didn't load the last page worth of posts until I posted. |

Some predictions for Saber Book 3, assuming it's a 12-box set because I can't see anything to the contrary:-
- Buster - Kenzan - Blades Pegasus Lion Peter - Saber Dragon Eagle Journey - Orthoros Vulcan - Ark Scorpion I'm at the very very least confident that they want to hurry to both finish up Zero-One's stuff (so those two figures and then we're done), as well as get Buster and Kenzan out asap because come on. Saber's Arthur arm I think will just be included with the obligatory bike/mech exclusive set. I could also see a single box that has Buster and Kenzan's alternate arms. I'm fairly certain Book 4 will have Espada's 3 book form, Slash and Calibur Ja-Oh. |

Saber's releases have been really slow and I would absolutely kill for SO-DO Buster and Kenzan right now. IMO, best case scenario is Buster, Kenzan, Ark Scorpion, Orthoros Vulcan, and Abaddon. There's no way we're getting a wave without form changes or Saber, though, sadly. |

Zi-O stuff was REALLY late, yeah, but Zi-O overall was REALLY substantial. We had 5 releases just from the movie. Zero-One is super close to wrapping up(we got Eden and Hell Rising Hopper really early, after all), at least until V-cinemas.
|
I wonder will the arm swaps for Buster and Kenzan come with thw main figure now that it's bwen revealed that theu don't come with the specific armour.

SHODO SUPER is skipping the team for now and making the villain Silva first.
https://p-bandai.jp/item/item-1000151516 http://www.tokunation.com/attachment...1&d=1604966604 Bio Hunter Silva is a stand alone PB exclusive (Much like N-Daguva-Zeba and the special W). Also, the next Super Minipla was teased, Silva's mecha Balzion, which is exactly what many expected after they teased Silva a bit ago. |
He comes with a very comprehensive set of accessories, too!

Can you use regular mod podge to seal stickers on Sodo and Figure-rise?

Thanks! I'll try it on a minor stickered part to see how it goes first, and if it doesn't I'll but the nail polish. I already see crinkles at the top of the Saber belt stickers from form changing and I don't want the same thing to happen to them as Vulcan's belt.
|
Clear nail polish is the way to do it. The rapid/quick drying ones work extremely well. Mod podge doesn't even compare, and it's more expensive, to boot. Clear nail polish also really makes the stickers and details pop. Looks gorgeous.
I should really post pictures of my success sometime. You can't even tell that there are stickers anymore and the best part is they don't feel like stickers either. The fact this works so well is the only reason I collect SO-DO, to be honest. The problem with mod podge(aside from being more expensive) is that it doesn't really seal the edges of stickers very well. There's always going to be the risk of you scraping a fingernail or something against the edge of a sticker, wearing it down over time. Clear nail polish creates a complete barrier around the sticker, annihilating any chance of that ever happening. |

SHODO-X Kabuto, Hyper Kabuto, Kick Hopper, and Punch Hopper came in today. Holy fuck, they actually feel and look incredible. They do indeed feel a little weird compared to SO-DO, but I think I can get used to it. My expectations were very low since each figure was only around 5 bucks. It's also really nice that for once, I don't have to apply stickers and then smuther nail polish all over them lol I usually spend quite a bit of time doing that whenever my SO-DO stuff comes in.
Kabuto was my gateway into this franchise, so my mind is absolutely blown right now. I...absolutely have to get more. I would honestly be willing to drop SO-DO if SHODO figures were more readily available. I really hope these figures actually are durable and last. The shoulder pads are going to take me some time to get used to, but I do find it really cool that they're show-accurate. Since I may be getting into the older SHODO releases, should I be wary of anything? Did any of the older releases have quality control issues at all, or anything of the sort? |

Honestly, though, I really enjoy the stickering aspects of SO-DO? It's nice to have these tiny mans at the end of the process, but I actually enjoy the process as well? |
I imagine they'll complete Kabuto's lineup, too -- you don't just release a worm and not put out the remaining four riders!

Oh, and I forgot to mention before, but I absolutely LOVE the pull-down hips on SHODO. This is the one thing SO-DO figures are severely lacking. I really hate that Zero-Two can't move his legs much at all. |
I think if SHODO-X had the compound eyes, they would be the only figures I ever collect. They are very impressive on a technical level and I prefer the softer plastic over SODO plastic.
What are they at now? 11/20 of the Heisei riders? |
