I'd easily put it in my top 3 favrioutes. |
Started rewatching Fourze and I´m currently six episodes in. Its still a lot of fun to watch. The action scenes are full of energy, I love the soundtrack and the charatcers are so much fun to watch.
I feel thrown back again to the time when Fourze first aired and I was in my last year of High School. Having that last big party with all of your friends before you go to college or start working. Good times. |
Watching more and more of Den-O and I can't get enough of this show, it's great.
|
Yeah the show is fun. I really need to rewatch that. The 100 or so movies that came out after it really kinda soured my opinion on that one :lol
|
I really gotta rewatch Den-O, too. All I know is that I was under massive depression when I saw the last 10 or so episodes, so I wanna revisit them and see them when I'm not so under the weather~
|
Den-O's so fun. I only wish they had stopped doing movies once Ryotaro's actor wouldn't come back.

Actually, I preferred it when Koutaro/New Den-O was the Star of the movies. I was never a big fan of Ryotaro and his actor.
Kid-Ryotaro was okay, I guess. |
I was thinking about actually watching Dragon Knight from start to finish. I saw a couple episodes when it aired on CW, but I've never seen the whole thing. Is it worth it? I've heard mixed opinions.
|
I only saw the first 20 episodes of it but I liked what I saw.
|
I saw some, but never finished it.
I only saw it as decent. I could never get into it. |
Is there any series that doesn't generate mixed opinions? I can't think of one. I'd say go for it if it interests you.
|
Well, opinions on Double and OOO tend to be pretty solid across the board of "Good." Fourze and Den-O are also relatively popular, and only tend to get decried for their more "Fun" spin, rather than being serious. Gaim is also pretty solid, too.
I think those 5 tend to be the KR series that are almost universally praised. |
I actually haven’t seen Dragon Knight save for a few clips I stumbled across on YouTube and elsewhere. I’ve read that it received mixed reception at the time of its release, and the critique the series receives today seems to be mostly negative. But it’s apparently a better show than Masked Rider. A few people I’ve spoken to on other forums, however, have praised it and said that this is what got them into Kamen Rider in the first place.
Anyway! I’ve just watched Kamen Rider The First. |

That was the probably the second worse piece of Kamen Rider media I've ever seen :lol
Just slightly better than Decade |

Well I think The First is an “alright” film, actually. I mean, it isn’t anything spectacular or anything “to write home about”, but it’s okay. And I like Decade! :p |
I hate Decade~

So, I finished Agito. It was...okay. Not great, just very okay. Fair warning, spoilers to follow.
It starts out well enough, and the first ten or so episodes are fine. I really do like how in the first few episodes they establish some intrigue and an overarching plot, (unlike other shows that forget they need one until the last ten episodes). However, after those first few episodes the show just get bad in my opinion. They spend roughly twenty filler episodes just fighting the Unknown with no advancements in the plot. We get a forced love triangle that is the focus for, like, ten episodes that has no lasting consequences. And you know what the worst part is? Almost every single mystery introduced early on is entirely forgotten. What was that giant puzzle? Why was there a DNA code in it? How did Ryou become Gills? What accident was he in? (it's heavily emphasized for something that isn't ever mentioned again aside from one throwaway line towards the end) No one even seems to care when the lady from the lab goes missing. What the hell is the tapestry in the opening? Why does it have Kuuga on it? (If that even is Kuuga, it looks more like a red Agito Ground Form). None of these are ever explained. (How the hell did Ryou become Gills?) Also, I absolutely hate how Shouichi regains his memory around the halfway point only to lose it again in the next episode. So stupid. Also, characters just suddenly disappear randomly. The guy in Black a.k.a the big bad disappears for half the series. He just stops showing up. The entire police cast disappears for at least five straight episodes at one point. I'm pretty sure Gills is absent at least twice (once because he spends two whole episodes face down in a river). The show just seems to forget about certain important characters. Speaking of characters, I actually liked a fair bit of them.Mostly the G3 team, Another Agito, and Gills. The characters are one of the show's redeeming qualities. Except Shouichi, who seems entirely aloof to the whole thing except for all of two or three episodes. Finally the show gets good around episode 30, and from ~30 to 46 it's actually pretty decent. (Partly because of Another Agito. I wish we would have gotten more of him.) But why doesn't Agito use Burning and Shining form more? He only uses the latter about three times. Why wouldn't he use his most powerful forms, especially when he's getting his ass kicked? That battle in 46 is well done, and could have been the final battle if they put a bit more into it. And then the show becomes shit. After the time skip it just loses all momentum. They unnecessarily add romance subplots for Gills and Agito. Those last 4/5 episodes all feel like they should have occurred around the beginning of the series. And the reason for the time skip is so dumb. The unknown stop appearing for a month because the big bad got punched once in the face. A single punch from an un-transformed Shouichi put the big bad out of commission for an entire month. Am I missing something here? Please tell me. But that last episode. Did not have a very good impact for a last episode. There isn't even a final battle. The show literally does not have a final battle against the big bad they've been (kinda) building up for half the show. Shouichi just fucking rider kicks him as while he's floating away. The only things they actually fight are just a couple of strong Unknown. The real villain is beaten in the lamest way possible. And Shouichi doesn't even defeat him. The bad guy just decides to give up later on. The ending was alright. I liked seeing Kouno and Hikawa work together, and Omuro getting some respect. Ryou getting the puppy was definitely a highlight. Why couldn't the writers just let him be happy. ;_; Overall the show goes like this for me: Good > Comparatively bad > Pretty Good > Bad > Meh Also, what's up with the Special? Parts of it are canon while other parts aren't. It's weird. Overall: 5.1/10 |

The Next, however, is bad. It feels like someone wrote a horror movie and at the last minute remembered they had to have some Kamen Riders in there. Left me wanting a better modern adaptation of V3. |

and to explain Shouichi's memory loss the episode after he gets his memory back, we see he forgets as soon as he's being drenched in rain, and later on, we see he had a traumatic experience in the rain, so we can see that Shouichi probably had PTSD of that event. also, the reason Gills can become Gills is because Ryo's dad had a seed of Agito, and that is passed down through the family. that's how it happened. and i guess it is meant to establish that Ryou first became Gills at around the time he was hospitalized, as if his own seed awakened to heal him. and the tapestry doesn't technically have Kuuga, it's one of Agito's forms, you can also see G3 in that same image too. |

G3 is the blue one on the same image as the red Agito.
and you're not the only one who wants them to finally connect Agito and Kuuga. |
So I started watching through Dragon Knight again after I never finished it all those years ago. I watched the first five episodes and its alright.
The acting is rather stiff and in some areas really bad. The wirting is sometimes a bit stale especially when it comes to comedy. The comedy in the show is just very awkward and not very funny. Most of the comedy comes from the supporting cast and I hate all of them so far. All the characters working at the bookstore and that friend of the main female are so goddamn annoying. I hate every second of screentime they get. What I really like about the show is the Kamen Rider stuff though. I like the characters and the action looks great. Especially the stuff they had to film themselfs. The whole story of Ventara is also pretty decent so far. My favorite thing about this show is still Xaviax though. The Actor who plays him is just so full of charisma and its a delight to see how serious he takes the material and is always playing his part straight. Love that guy. So yeah I have mixed views on the beginning but lets see where this ride takes me. |
LEEETS RIDE!!! KAMEN RIDER!! FIGHT THE FIGHT!!!!!
Ok joking aside :lol , I must admit my favorite part of the show was when they had to filmed original footage for Onyx, and plus seeing the Ryuga suit as a good rider was kinda nice. |
The opening is not the shows strong point :lol
Yeah I´m really curious to see how they did that. But thats still a long way to go :lol One thing I also dont really like about the show is that sometimes it tries a bit too hard to come off as cool and stylish and feels really forced at times. |
I really really like Dragon Knight. In terms of original footage and changed story I think it's one of the best American-adapted tokusatsu shows out there, even if the story and acting is lacking in some areas.
|
Its definitely the most creative. I always liked it how they take scenes out of the last ten episodes of Ryuki and put them into the first ten of Dragon Knight. Or how they expand the role of certain Riders that had only minor appearances in Ryuki and its movies.

After a brief hiatus, Kuuga 36.
So Sawatori takes a more active approach, going directly to the ruins to research things more closely. Additionally, scientist lady (Who seems to never want to interact with her son) wants to research how the Grongi's weapons operate, since they seem to transform in some manner similar to Kuuga's alternate forms. In the meanwhile, the bat grongi seems to start his own game up and gains a power boost, making him more of a threat. However, rather than go kill, he targets another Grongi first. It's the (I have no idea what animal this is) Grongi, who has recently been going around murdering taxi drivers by melting them into acid. Brutal. There isn't much to say beyond just recapping it... |
Watching ep 40 of Gaim, did I miss this one? I have no recolection of it despite being pretty intense. The mental torment Kouta's enduring is played very well with exactly the seriousness it should.
|
14 Episodes into Dragon Knight and I now remember why I liked it so much. It still has some flaws like the supoporting cast not being that interesting and some of the acting is still extremely rough. The Story and the Riders are pretty sweet though.

Though, I guess any version of Knight just has to be a badass :lol |
I like that it takes the material pretty serious and tries not to go into the same direction Power Rangers does in terms of style and atmosphere. It does its own thing with it and I like how creative they are with the source footage.

Kuuga 37.
So the three way fighting ends and everyone escapes unharmed. The acid grongi continues her rampage (Meeting a road bump in the taxi system slowing to prevent her from operating, though she does have a backup plan) while the bat goes on to fight the rose. Godai and Ichigou move in and find not only those two, but the kabuto Grongi as well. Kuuga moves to fight those two while Ichijou finds the rose Grongi, ending with him pointing the rifle right at her. Neat episode. The scientist and her son subplot is shit and they should not bring it up anymore. It initially seems like an interesting subplot, with her having to figure out how to balance spending time with her son vs doing her job to help the police. However, it's painfully clear that she just doesn't balance at all. She spends all her time at the station. Jean cares more about her son than she does, and it's getting old. Every time this plot is brought up, it plays like this Scientist: "Everything is going well!" Jean/Yusuke: "How's your son?" Scientist: *Smile fades and she looks away* Phone: "Emergency!" *End scene* Every single time. It's not going to have any worthwhile payoff because we've only ever seen her son once, too. Seriously. For as often as they bring it up, it goes nowhere, since the scientist never acknowledges she has a fucking family until someone points out that she's being a bitch by not even calling her son to tell him she's gonna be pulling an all nighter at the lab for the 300th time in a row... |
