That episode was perfect. Absolutely brilliant from start to finish.
Just about everything they could work in there, they did. Laiha gets to play a huge part in saving the day, Riku's love of Donshine comes up in a big way, him quoting Zero from Beyond's debut to further cement how much he's grown before he wipes the floor with one of, if not THE toughest Ultra villain, that awesome song from the soundtrack CD playing in almost exactly the context I was hoping they'd use it in the show while everyone cheers Geed on (and it's about time!), or even the last shot in the ED not actually being from the episode proper. It's SO good. I know I say that constantly about Geed but I can't stress enough how good it is. The closest thing I have to a gripe with it at this point is that it'll be REALLY hard to top a two-parter this stellar. Also if that "turning destiny around" thing was Tsuburaya's intent with Geed's name the whole time (which seems likely), that's... actually kind of genius. |
Binged ep 16 & 17 at once. Man Ultraman is on a roll since X. Makes me wonder what would happen for the 2018 series.

Episode 17 was surprisingly amazing!
"Surprisingly" because the show is already so good I didn't think I could still be amazed! The 'Ultras Shield' was really cool. |

Less Fusions and 'toy of the week' would be nice. But it seems like that's what Ultraman and Kamen Rider do now. I guess that's where the money is.
One of the reasons I like the Showa era stuff is because it's more about the stories and less about pushing toys in your face in each episode. (not that I don't like all of the eras, but it's refreshing watching Showa stuff and just getting the story and not the gimmicks.) |
Episode 17 was on fire, damn!
There's so much great stuff to talk about. First of all, I love the illusion Belial created, and Geed with red eyes looks rather great actually, still prefer the blue though. Giving Laiha the role of saving him and tying up her Little Star-plot in the same move is genius. And man, the scene with little Rikku and Donshine was amazing. When will they finally make an episode with a Donshine-focus ala "Beware the Gray Ghost" from Batman? It's beyond due now! Anyways, the action scene that followed was badass. Not only did they show off all of Geed's forms properly, but I was really happy when Belial recognized the Father of Ultra-side in Magnificent and said that he and Ken don't get along, fantastic! :lol The new BGM-track that played alongside was also great, I definitely need to get the soundtrack now. Lastly, I do like Royal Mega Master, the design is still not for me but it's a fun form to witness in action. The toy-focus isn't bothering me as much and the "Brothers Shield" is just epic. So yeah, great stuff once again, I can't wait to see where this show goes next, we all know Belial isn't done for just yet. |
Don’t really need to say any more about this episode as everyone else has covered it, but yeah it was pretty damn amazing wasn’t it!
The King Sword stuff definitely felt less toy-ad than the Geed Claw did, along with the Orb Calibur and X’s Exceed dagger thing I don’t remember the name of for that matter. Good to see TsuPro hit a sweet spot there. |
