Finally found the time to sit down and watch Oldboy for the first time. Absolutely loved it. Its a great revenge movie that had me at the edge of my seat all the way through.

Rear Window - Nothing like getting to see this on the big screen. This movie just flat out rocks. Easily a 9/10.

Watched the Roger Ebert documentary Life Itself and found it to be one of the most powerful movies I have seen. It was just a wild ride seeing how his life unfolded contrasted with footage of his last days before his death. I laughed, I cried and felt absolutely fascinated.

Cinderella.
As someone who's burnt out on the formula...I think that this is the best film version of the story (Yes I'm including all the ones set in modern times). It makes a lot of smart choices regarding the Prince specifically, like having him meet Cinderella earlier on in the movie, and how his relationship with her wasn't just "I danced with her, so she's the love of my life." their relationship develops more naturally, I also like how he had more to do, and how he got some backstory. I also appreciate how he knew who he was looking for, so you avoided the problem of "What? Is this guy blind?" I also like the movie's take on the Fairy Godmother, I loved how kooky she was. Another thing I appreciate is the extra backstory on Cinderella herself, and how we get to see her mother. At the same time it does pad out a story that you've likely seen a thousand times, so I could see how it might bother some people. Comparing it to the original Disney version, it seems like they took all the screentime the mice had, and gave it to Cinderella's backstory. I'm ok with this change, since the story should be about her, not the mice (although they do still play a role). Another thing that could be seen as a negative is this movie's use of Magic. It's the reason her Stepmother and stepsisters don't recognize her at the ball, and they explain that as the reason the slipper would only fit Cinderella, because magic. I was pretty ok with it, but again, I could understand how that would bother some. My main issues with the movie (aside from it being Cinderella, because I've seen every version out there, you know the ones starring *insert "it girl" of the time here*) are purely cosmetic. Some of the CG is questionable, and I don't quite get why the Stepmother was wearing a leopard print robe, since I don't think they had those back then. It's not something that I'll rewatch any time soon, but if you like Disney's takes on classic fairytales, I'd give this one a watch. |
Gone Baby Gone
I´m usually a big fan of Ben Affleck directed movies. I like The Town and absolutely loved Argo but Gone Baby Gone is by far the one that interested me the least. Its not a bad movie by any means but it also isnt one of the best Affleck has directed. The story was pretty interesting but became pretty predictable later on and I dont know if I like where they went with it. The biggest problem of the movie though is by far Casey Affleck. I dont mind the guy but he isnt the best actor out there and I dont think he was especially right for the part. He really struggles to show emotions or be intimidating. He mostly has one expression throughout the movie and it hurts the movie alot when your main actor cant believably convey in what state of mind he is. The supporting characters are what makes this movie work though. Ed Harris gives one hell of a performance, Morgan Freeman is great with the very few things he is given in the movie and even Titus Welliver who doesnt do alot in the film really knocks it out of the park when his big moment comes. I enjoyed the movie overall but its definitely not one of those I will watch again any time soon. The Breakfast Club Saw this movie today for the first time in my life and it is a really great movie. The cast is incredibly likeable and even at their young age everyone acts extremely well and makes their character believable. I am absolutely amazed how well John Hughes understood the heart and soul of teenagers and what they are going through. Even if my time in high school happenes over a decade after the release of this movie I still recognized so many of myself in the characters. The problems they have to go through and how hard it is to find your place in this world. There isnt really much I can say about this movie beyond that cause I think its best if everyone just watches this movie to enjoy it for themself. Casino Truly one of Scorseses best movies and while Taxi Driver will always be my absolute favorite of his Casino is a close second with Goodfellas. I felt absolutely captivated by this film. The story was absolutely thrilling and the three hour run time flew by like it was nothing. It was so interesting to see how this whole emprie just crumbled becuase of one mans pride who just didnt knew when to take a step back and admit defeat. Every performance in this movie was superb. Robert Deniro gives everything he got as the lead character. Joe pesci and Sharon Stone are equally as great and fun to watch. Their dynamic was the meat of this film and I never felt bored watching them. |
The Last Samurai. That was actually pretty good. Not historically accurate, mind you, but for the most part a very enjoyable movie. 8.5/10

Fast and Furious 7 - As a whole, the movie is a pretty solid entry in the franchise, as it is a great conclusion, but it is not without its negatives. The characters are pretty much invincible throughout the entire thing while the villains clearly know they are in a movie because everything is so scripted. There is a scene where the villain should not even know what is going to happen, and yet, he is not surprised when it happens, which did take me out of the movie for a moment. Also, this movie is more of a generic action flick rather than a car heist one, which is disappointing. Most of the action scenes were great though and there was some really good dialog. It is a fantastic ending to the series and Universal does NOT need to do anymore because this is the best ending you could ask for. Overall, it isn't as good as the last movie that came out, but I still give it a nice 7/10 stars.
|
The Incredible Hulk - This isn't anywhere near my favorites list for the Marvel movies, but it is a damn good movie nonetheless. Norton is fantastic as Banner and Liv Tyler is not bad as Betty. Definitely the best version in live action to date. I also love Hurt as General Ross and Roth is amazing as Abomination. The CGI does look a bit dated by today's standards, but it still looks decent enough to the point that it doesn't take away from the movie one bit. It is a shame Norton decided to be a little baby after this movie, but hey, at least it got us Mark Ruffalo instead. I give this one a nice 7/10 stars.

Iron Man 2 - This movie is a mixed bag. First off, it isn't as good as the first one, which is one of its downsides. Secondly, the entire Stark Expo thing is kind of dumb. Finally, Whiplash is such a lackluster villain and he was utterly pointless here. There was no need for him to be in here. On the positive side, Downey is amazing and I loved the scenes with Black Widow, especially when she kicks all of the guards' asses while Tony's body guard is excited to have beaten one dude. There are a lot of face palm inducing moment but movie is at least entertaining. I give it a 6/10 because its negatives do majorly hurt the film.
Thor - Utterly fantastic. Still one of the best Marvel movies to date as it not only features characters from Norse mythology (a subject that is severely lacking in movies) but it also gives us an interesting take on the Marvel version of it. The casting is nothing short of great and the plot is enjoyable even if simple. The chemistry between Chris and Natalie is top notch and one of the better romances to occur in these things. Overall, this movie gets an easy 8/10. |
yo, 2014 Godzilla.
still as awesome as ever. "ret them feiht." |
Captain America - A flawed, but fantastic origin movie for Captain America. I've never been a big fan of the character, but this movie made me really like him and the casting was top notch. Not only was Chris Evans a great Steve, but my god, Hugo Weaving was born to play Red Skull. He was just flat out amazing and I hope we do see him again in an upcoming movie. Overall, I give it a 7/10 stars.
Something Funny Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer - Okay, this really isn't a movie, but I never noticed this before in the extras. It was awesome. Hands down 10/10 stars. |
Avengers - This was my third time watching it and I have to say it was far more enjoyable than I remembered. I loved it. There are some many great lines in it and the action is fantastic. The characters are fun and it is by far one of the best super hero team up movies ever, if not the best. I give it an 8/10.
And with today I kick off the Marvel phase 2 movies, none of which I have watched since seeing them in the theater on their opening weekends. Iron Man 3 - I hated this movie when it first came out. I hate what they did to Mandarin, not because of the twist, but because the movie fizzled out into redundancy of the first two movies. I still hate that aspect of the movie. That makes three movies in a row where the main villain was just some jealous spoiled baby. However, everything about the movie was so much better this time around. I highly enjoyed it a lot more than I had before. As such, I'm upping its score from my original 6 to a 7/10. It is still far from perfect, but it is an enjoyable movie in the long run. Agent Carter One Shot - Again, not an actual movie, but it was quite enjoyable. I give it a 9/10. Item 47 - Forgot about this yesterday, it is decent. Probably the weakest of the four one shots I have watched so far, but still interesting. I give ita 7/10. Thor 2 - This one is about the same as it was when I first saw it. I like it a lot, but it is not as good as the first one. Malachi is a lackluster villain as he doesn't really do much and has little to no development. The fight at the end is great though and both Hemsworth and Portman have excellent chemistry together. Nevertheless, Loki is by far the highlight and I cannot wait for Ragnarok. I give this one a 7/10. All Hail the King - Whoa, THANK YOU!! It was nice to see them remember the Ten Rings from the first Iron Man movie and that there is really a Mandarin. This was awesome and I hope we see more of this later. 10/10. |
Captain America 2 - Now THIS is how you do a super hero movie!! This movie is just down right fantastic and easily the best Marvel movie to date. It has the perfect balance of action, plot, drama, comedy, and character development. There is so much that it does right that even the little bits of its faults are easy to ignore. Oh, and the music for Winter Soldier is down right phenomenal. I give this movie a 9/10 stars.
Guardians of the Galaxy - Like the others, I haven't watched this since I saw it in theaters. Surprisingly, this movie is just as amazing the second time around as it was the first time, so I definitely have to give it pointers for that. The characters are fun and while they don't have the greatest amount of development, everything has been crafted so well that it takes nothing away from the overall enjoyment of the movie. It isn't as good as Winter Soldier, but better than Avengers. I give it an 8/10. Ex Machina - If you are a fan of cyberpunk in general, especially Blade Runner or Ghost in the Shell, check this movie out. It is hands down one of the most thought provoking movies I have seen in quite some time that relies heavily on dialog and visuals to tell its story rather than explosions. Nearly every seen is written quite craftily to the point that the movie feels like an hour long rather than 110 minutes. The music is quite intense and knows how to fit the mood of the scene when it needs to. Not just that, but there is so much to be found here that it is going to take a couple more views to catch everything, and I for one an looking forward to doing so. This is what Transcendence and Interstellar should have been last year. I give this amazing film a 9/10 stars. |
Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
This movie is what we've been waiting for. With this out of the way, we can finally begin transitioning into Phase 3. Hawkeye gets the best lines in this movie. It really feels like a step up from Thor and Avengers. The team has changed drastically by the end of the movie, with Cap, Scarlet Witch, Black Widow, Vision, War Machine, and Falcon being the new Avengers after Tony, Thor, Hulk, and Hawkeye leave and Quicksilver being.... well..... Ultron kills Quicksilver. This movie felt like it set up Avengers: Infinity War more than Captain America: Civil War. I say that because this movie focuses on the fourth Infinity Stone, which is hidden inside Loki's scepter . Four down, two to go. My guess is that we'll see the fifth Infinty Stone in Doctor Strange. Let's do a head count here: We have the Tesseract/ the Space Stone, the Aether/ the Reality Stone, the Orb/ the Power Stone, and Loki's Scepter/ Vision/ the Mind Stone . |
I know you've tagged them and all, but was there much point in dropping so many spoilers in that post? You don't even really discuss half of them, you've just listed them.

Avengers 2 - It is so nice to walk into a movie and knowing very little about it thanks to my constant need to avoid every trailer, article, and promo possible as to not spoil anything for myself. This movie hands down meets all of its expectations you could expect from it. I wouldn't go out to say it is better than the first one, but it is definitely on par with it as the action is excellent, the acting is very good, there are some great moments of character development, and most of all, my god, Ultron is just so damn badass. The actors for Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver was also incredible as was Vision. Once again the writers did a fantastic job of making the movie action packed, dramatic, and fun all in one package. So much so that I am now dreading the upcoming DC cinematic universe even more as everything DC has revealed looks desaturated and joyless. The biggest negative I have for the movie is how it was edited as there are some scenes that feel a little off as if they are missing a scene or two. Finally, there is a scene during the credits but the lack of one after the credits had ended met with loud disembodied moans and groans from the audience. IN the end, I give this movie a terrific 8/10 stars.

Avengers: Age of Ultron
First off, getting all my friends into the same theater was a hassle and a half, because half of them forgot or refused to by tickets early, forgetting this was a blockbuster EVERYONE has been waiting for, so we had to trade tickets at the counter for later and later showings, just so that the most of us can enjoy it together before it was Sold Out. On the the actual movie, it improved upon everything I found lacking in the Avengers (which I still love) and Iron man 3, since Rhodey got to fight without being remotely controlled or having his suit stolen. The Maximoffs were awesome, Ultron was fun to watch, and the team was just beautiful to watch work together. Great movie, and I highly recommend it for anyone interested in watching superheroes actually work together rather than fighting each other (besides the Hulkbuster fight, but you all know about that from at least one of the trailers). Also, nice small hints and set ups for Civil War. Tony has it coming |
Where was the hint for Civil War?

Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods
I quite enjoyed it. I was surprised by how much humor was in it. I expected it to be super serious. Beers is probably my favorite DBZ antagonist, and I'd happily buy a Figuart of him if Bandai ever makes one. That final fight scene was fantastic. I still think that Super Sayian god sucks, since it's just Goku with red hair, and less muscle mass. I'm really confused as to whether or not this makes GT non-cannon, as Pilaf and co. are kids, but Goku NEVER went Super Sayian 4. So, yeah once I can afford it, I'll likely but the Blu-Ray or DVD. |

The Man with the Golden Gun - One of Moore's best movies. It is a little too long, but then, the pacing would be fixed if they removed every scene with JW Pepper in it and Goodnight is one of the dumbest Bond girls ever, but it is still an enjoyable movie overall, Lee is an excellent villain and he really helps the movie a lot. In fact, I don't think the movie would be as good without him. I give it a 7/10 stars.

Anyway, I saw the movie again today and most of the things I had issues with yesterday were not present this time. I still wish they would have shown us them learning about Strucker and the Enhanced on screen though. Instead, we get Count Dooku 2.0. |
I don't feel like writing a review of AOU because I'm lazy. It was decent. I felt it was too heavily edited, with plots popping up and characters going along with it far too quickly, and I think if there's a Director's Cut, it'll be much better. Still enjoyable, but I do wish Black Widow got to kick more ass. The expansion on Hawkeye's character was appreciated, though.
I do have a question, though. Where is the Aether/Reality Gem? The Tesseract/Space Gem is on Asgard, the "Orb"/Power Gem is protected by the Nova Corps, and the Mind Gem is contained within the Vision. But where is the Aether? It was given to the Collector for safekeeping, but his collection was destroyed. Does he still have it despite his place being in ruins? |
It should still be in the posessio of the Collector. We could get more information on that in one of the future cosmic movies. But I dont think he gave it away and kept it somewhere else and not in his main Collection.
But yeah we wont know for sure until we get more information. |
I doubt he gave it away or anything, it's just that, after the explosion at his collection, I highly doubt it's still just sitting around in the wreckage, which is what makes me curious to whether he still has his hands on it.
I guess, due to it's value, he wouldn't have it sitting around or on display like his other stuff, so keeping it elsewhere does make sense. But what with him being, well, a collector, something of that rarity is also the exact kind of thing you'd want to show off. I dunno, I guess I don't want to wait for Avengers 3 just to find out whether or not he still owns it. |
A thing I now have with this situation is something completely different. Why give it to the Collector in the first place?
The way he is presented in Guardians as this kinda shady person and slaver doesnt really make much sense why Asgardians would trust him with an Infinity Gem. |
I guess they gave it to him because he's simply more interested in owning, rather than conquering or destroying. He conducts shady deals, but to expand his collection, rather than to wipe out enemies or something.
That's just my speculation, though. |
So last two day I gave wTched two Star Wars movie episode one and 2. I like prequal trilogy they are enjoyable. I do agree with some thing people nit pick about. I hate jar jar Hayden christen as aniken. Also I did star to notice CGI 3PO in attack of the clones. I will say this Erwen migragor is still the best chose in a young Alec geniuses

AoU is a decent film. not particularly written well but a good " turn off your brain" film
|
Escape from New York - Amazing movie and Shout's new BD is phenomenal. It looks absolutely fantastic and I can never watch the movie on anything lesser again. I give it a 9/10.
The Spy Who Loved Me - A little too silly at times but this is one of Moore's best movies with some truly great set pieces. I love nearly everything that is done in Cairo, especially the folklore bit. I give it a 7/10. Mad Max - I have no idea what the big deal of this movie is about. Sure, it is a harmless movie and it had some really great moments to it. It wasn't bad or anything, but I just don't see why people praise it. It didn't even feel remotely post apocalyptic. The characters seemed to mumble more than speak and it didn't really seem to go anywhere. I'm glad I finally saw it, but I just don't see how it goes from this to what has been shown in the trailers of the new one. Granted, there are two more movies, so maybe some big nuclear bomb goes off in one of those, but for what this was, it was average. I give it a 6/10. Like I said, nothing spectacular, but nothing terrible either. Mad Max 2- I still felt a little under whelmed by this one, but for different reasons. The car chase scenes were pretty awesome and made me want to play Twisted Metal, but the movie was a little too over the top in silliness. The main bad guy leader makes He-Man look straight. I also did not care for the lack of any sort of development for Max at all. He was the same in the beginning as it was in the end, so that was disappointing. The dialog was still drowned out by the music at times too, which was also annoying. Still, it was fun to see so I give it a 7/10. Mad Max 3 - Wow, this was absolute pig ****!! Why is the new one taking place after this one? The story made no sense whatsoever and it just gets worse as it goes along. Not just that, but what was the point of Auntie chasing after them when she just leaves Max? No wonder it took them 30 years to make a new one. I give this crap a 3/10. |
The 'Burbs
Since my APUSH class has literally nothing to study for since we did our finals a few weeks ago and we our AP test done, we are sitting back and watching some movies. It's a cute little flick about what the neighbors next door are doing, with neighbors speculating and spying and suspicious shit going on all around. Think of that one Twilight Zone episode about cultural conformity and distrust amongst the neighborhood mixed with every plto about suspicious neighbors with some interesting visuals in spots. It stars Tom Hanks but I feel his acting in this isn't as good as it will eventually be. And for a movie portraying itself as a comedy in the trailer, it wasn't making me laugh very often. |
Mad Max 4 - Or as I like to call it, Twisted Metal The Movie - Now THIS is what The Expendables should have been. This movie is a high octane explosion fest that is pretty much one long car combat sequence with only moments of room to breath, and yet, the movie finds away to keep you engaged in what is going on without ever getting bored. If you are looking for a plot or character development, go somewhere else as this feels like it is just a video game with cut scenes in between to break up the action. The acting is fine for what it wanted to be, but the highlights include the fact that nearly everything is done with practical effects over CGI and its musical score is magnificent to the ear. It is no where near as good as Ex Machina or Avengers 2, but it is still a great movie that needs to be scene in the theater. I give it a 7/10 stars.
Moonraker - Oh god my eyes, MY EYES!!! I forgot just how bad this movie was. It is terrible. The acting is bad, especially from the lady playing Goodhead, who was obviously just casted for her looks (for some reason, she isn't even pretty) rather than her acting... hahahahahahaha... I can't even finish that sentence. Drax is a horrible villain who is pretty much repeating the same plot from the last movie. I give this garbage movie a 3/10. Jurassic Park - It's been a few years since I have watched this one and it is still just a fantastic movie. The effects are phenomenal and put a lot of movies today to shame. It is colorful, has a great sound design in both music and effects, and the characters are lovable. Goldblum is miscast for Malcom, but aside from him, I have no complaints about this movie. The only thing that strikes me as odd, and always has, is the T-Rex area. When the T-Rex comes through the fence he is on land that is right behind the fence, but when he knocks the car and over and stuff, it is like a 50 foot drop. Huh? Nevertheless, I give this masterpiece a 9/10 stars. The Babadook - I finally got to see this and it was good, but I was a little disappointed with it. It was nice to see an original horror movie again though and it had a lot of great moments to it. I also liked that there was a lot of build up to the Babadook's terror. Unfortunately, I didn't feel the payoff was good enough though. I am glad to have finally gotten to see it, at the same time however, I'm happy I didn't run out and buy it as it's not a movie I'm probably going to ever rewatch. I give it a 7/10. |
