Of those 3, I would say try out Black just to see some Showa.

Black; it's one of the best damn Rider shows ever. Ryuki's good, too, but Kiva is the bastard child of trying to combine Faiz's melodrama and Den-O's marketability. It's worth watching at some point, but I'd put it off as long as you can.

Just finished Agito. I absolutely loved it. Next up: Ryuki

Oh come on. Kiva is a fantastic show and that's coming from someone who hated Faiz and loved Den-O. Black is obviously the winner being the classic mega series that it is. But don't ever write off Kiva or Ryuki for that matter.

Or just go for the series that does drama well.

It really isn't, though. The designs are great and Otoya's a pimp, but the rest of the show is awful. The two time zones thing is never used effectively and creates a lot of plot holes with all the Fangires that attack in 1986, do nothing for 22 years, and then come back to die in 2008. The characters are all flat and/or annoying, with Wataru being the biggest weenie to ever put on a Rider belt and Nago having a personality that swings wildly based on whatever the writers need him to do. There are multiple occasions where the Riders pull new powers or weapons out of their butts with no explanation - most of which are only seen once - just so Bandai can sell the toys. The writing isn't quite as over the top as Faiz, but it still carries all the hallmarks of post-Agito Toshiki Inoue and the crapiness that entails (the most annoying being that Kiva has absolutely no traces of Wataru's personality in battle - it's like they're two different characters). It's probably not the worst Rider show ever, but it's a real close contender.

But then I just watched The First and The Next and loved them so much I'm searching for Figuarts of all three Riders. Original incarnations and the retelling versions.

I wouldn't call dropping you into drama without any set up or introductions "done well." I'm sure it becames a watchable show, but that begining is awful. Probably the worst begining to a Kamen Rider show I'vew ever seen.

If you can weather through the first 10-14 episodes, that's when the series picks up and becomes possible to actually follow :lol

In fairness, parts of those movies are actually pretty cool. It's just that those bits are small and separated by an ocean of garbage.

1. Kiva is easily the most badass looking Rider
2. The Wake up Rider kick looks sweet.
3. I can see me liking Kivat throughout the series. vampire bite henshin is a nice touch!
4. The Chopper type bike he rides. The only Rider i am aware of with that type of bike. It fits the theme
5. I like that Wataru is eccentric. It certainly sets him apart from everybody else i've seen. He is the polar opposite of Gentaro. Quiet and anti social, I can relate

Cons
1. I literally have no idea what is going on....at all
2. seriously ....what is going on?
3. I am assuming the 1986 Japanese Buffy the fangaia slayer gets explained at some point?
4. Dragon castle?

I want to see where it's going. It captured my attention , even if it has slower parts.

Well, Super-1 rode a Harley-Davidson... Which, for all I know about motorcycles, is the same thing as a chopper. :p

I am with you , I've got it narrowed down to dirt bike , crotch rocket and Harley -Davidson type. All i know is the bikes made on American Choppers are not the first 2 i listed.

I think Decades bike qualifies as chopper. Or maybe that's just a cruiser? Def not Sport or stunt.

Actually, Decade's bike is a cross between a sport and a cruiser, based on the Honda DN-01.
The cruiser features similarities to a chopper, primarily how they're ridden, but they're not choppers.

I think you have a point. Decades bike doesn't really fit any of those descriptions. Wow , Decades bike is kinda lame compared to others.

Pro-tip: don't go into Kiva expecting answers for most of the shit that happens, you will be sorely disappointed.

My personal favorite is the one episode fairly early on where Castle Doran's kid or something shows up, right the fuck out of nowhere, helps with the train battle, and is then never seen or mentioned again.

Kabuto's one of the better Rider series'.

Coming from someone who's yet to see what's commonly considered to be the best 3 series (Kuuga, Agito, and the first half of Hibiki), I must agree :lol

Coming from someone who's seen every subbed episode of Kamen Rider out there (and who totally agrees that Kuuga and Agito are top tier - although Black is still the best), Kabuto is fairly low on my list. It's good from episode to episode, but as a whole show it really doesn't hold together very well.

Also if you can count the first half of Hibiki as "great" then I can count the first half of Kabuto as great. Because it is.

Try Black first. Not everyone can get into the Showa era and if you give it a couple episodes and can't get into it, move on to Kuuga. If you can get into it, though, you're in for a hell of a great ride (with some awesome music).

Mostly the overarching story and its various failures. Also Drake. Tendou was an epic troll, though, and I loved him for it.

Because most of my favorite Tendou moments involve him intentionally being a dick to piss off Kagami. My personal favorite was in the first Gatack episode. Kagami's in the hospital and calls up Tendou to save a little boy stuck in a factory full of Worms. Tendou just says no and hangs up (and then goes into the factory anyway). :lol

Well, I just watched the raw of Superhero Taisen.

This wasn't a Kamen Rider vs Sentai film. It was a (((Decade vs Gokai Red) vs Diend) vs Joe Gibken) vs decent writing film. It pretty much boiled down to a volley of "subete no Rider/Ranger ore ga taosu", because treasure. Even the fights were rather boring. My Japanese isn't quite good enough to get why Diend decided to become a giant douche by the end, but hey, they needed somebody to antagonize, and that Anti-Rider robot was already too idiotic. Same thing with why Joe Gibken was mad out of his mind for the entire movie, but I think that's just Gibken.
Really, if they'd have told us this was going to be more Decade vs Gokaiger than Gobusters vs Fourze, then I'd have happily passed. What a load of garbage.
