The Lost World - My god this movie is just one giant bag of miscasts. Sarah is miscast. Nick is miscast. And I hate Goldblum's Malcom even more. Everyone seems half asleep in this movie except for Roland, who is the best thing about the movie. There are some pretty funny lines of dialog that are ruined by a quick follow up and the stuff in San Diego is just horrible. Everything there feels tacked on at the last minute as if they needed to up the stakes because having the movie end on the island wasn't good enough. Sure, the first movie took a lot of liberties to the original book, but this movie should not have even been called The Lost World because only two scenes are from Chricton's novel. Overall, I give this sloppy second a 6/10.
Jurassic Park 3 - My god does this movie suck. Not only does it not make sense with the ending to the original, but everything about it sucks. Suddenly the T-Rex is a weakling. The Raptors now don't kill on sight. And the Spinosaurus is supposed to be better than a T-Rex? Add on top that it doesn't even have a good send off, just makes it even more pathetic. However, the worst aspect of this movie is its characters. They are just completely unlikable jerk monkeys and are as bright as coal to boot. The only scene I can say I do enjoy is the birdcage bit, and I'm not even sure why. I think it has to do with the music and suspense of it. How they wrote something that good while the rest of the movie is dino shit is beyond me. I give it a 4/10. For Your Eyes Only - It is nice to have a more grounded Bond movie again. This one is pretty good from a narrative standpoint, but its execution needed more polish. There are scenes that drag on for way too long (such as the guy who is trying to knock Bond's mountain climbing gear out) and the 16 year old girl trying to sleep with him is utterly disgusting. That aside, I love the characters and the actors in it (I also just noticed Charles Dance is one of the henchmen), so I give it a 7/10. |
Captain America: Winter Soldier
*sigh* I've gotta place it below Iron Man 2. It wasn't a bad movie, per se, but I REALLY hate the whole "EVERYTHING IS HYDRA'S/THE KNIGHT TEMPLAR/WHATEVER OTHER EVIL ORGANIZATION'S FAULT!!!" plot device, and it really soured the whole movie for me. At least they gave Maria Hill more to do. Current Rankings: 1. Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Iron Man 1 3. Avengers 4. Captain America 5. Iron Man 2 6. Captain America: Winter Soldier |
Oh god, what the... I know opinions differ, but Winter Soldier went above and beyond being just a super hero movie. It is hands down the best Marvel movie to date and it almost as good as The Dark Knight. Did you totally miss all of the social issues it dealt with? Especially with our society today?

More on the social issues thing the whole "order vs. chaos" and security stuff has been done before, and better. Especially taking into account the whole "security" thing only being a cover for Hydra's true plans, and the only reason S.H.I.E.L.D had to resort to that stuff was because Hydra was pulling the strings the whole time, and even then S.H.I.E.L.D making those Helicarriers was all part of Hydra's master plan. So, while there was that social issue dealt with in the beginning, it was more or less negated with the whole "IT WAS ALL HYDRA'S FAULT!!!" thing. Unless you're talking about Black Widow revealing everything, including S.H.I.E.L.D's stuff, which I can see your point there. |
I Am Big Bird
I backed this film on Kickstarter three years ago. Earlier last month they released the digital edition and, hopefully, I'll get my Blu-ray later this month. I can't wait to view the extra home movies included on that. Well, on to the film. Quite honestly, I'm not sure the film would have as much of an emotional impact if the viewer didn't grow up in that Sesame Street/Muppet sweet spot that was the late 70s through the mid-80s. It would be nice to be wrong, though. The film is a documentary about Caroll Spinney, the man who has spent the last 40+ years as both Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch. It doesn't go into a lot of depth on any one thing and, in general, it almost feels like an overview of Spinney's life. But it is a great insight into the man and the home movies, including quite a few of the filming of 1987's Muppet Family Christmas. There are also a wealth of interviews with people like the late Jerry Nelson, Frank Oz, Bob McGrath, Sonia Manzano, Emilio Delgado, and Spinney's family. There are a lots of highs and lows in the course of the documentary. It's easy to get involved in what's happening and, if you grew up with it all, it really does get you right in the emotions. Sadly, there wasn't a screening local to me so I didn't get to see it on the big screen, but I imagine it would have been even better in the theatre. If this even tangentially touches on your interests, it would be worth your time to see. |
I was digging through some old dvds (remember those?) only to end up seeing Tron and UHF
|
Inside Out - We got to see an advanced screening of Inside Out and it was down right phenomenal. It had a perfect mix of everything from drama to comedy and the story was well told. The characters were awesome and each of the emotions had a nice distinct personality that none of them felt like they were the same character the way it should be. There is a lot of details that go on in the movie I can not speak of without spoiling it, but it is one of Pixar's best movies. I give it a 9/10. Also, the Lava short before it, while a bit sappy, was good too.

When Marnie was there
An excellent Studio Ghibli movie with a beautiful artstyle and a very focused and emotional story about a girl coming out of her shell through a friendship. I won't spoil anything, but her development across the movie is fantastic. |
Dogora - This movie was really really good. It was like watching a diamond heist movie with kaiju in it. I also loved that they got the actor back from Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster to play the main cop, but it was weird that he was just playing a new instead. Overall, I give the movie an 8 because it was really enjoyable to watch and Dogora was a unique idea. My only complaint is that it does drag in parts, which is a little problematic when the movie is only 80 minutes long. Oh, but man, this movie is in need of a serious remaster. Media Blaster's video quality looked like it was frankensteined from various sources.

Terminator 2 - Holy ****, this movie is really really good. I've only watched it once back in 2008 but I never realized just how good it was. I love the whole bait and switch that was done with the T101 and T1000 for the first half hour of the movie as it really keeps the tension going. Despite it being an action movie, there is also a lot of depth to the characters to be found and even though I have a problem believing John is only 10, he is a really likable kid. The T1000 is fantastic and the CGI on him still looks quite good even in today's world. It is also nice that they did not go overboard on the CGI and kept to using practical effects except when necessary. I wish studios today would stop being lazy and go back to doing it this way. Anyway, I give T2 a 9/10 stars.
Well, now to figure out what to do about 3 and 4 since they aren't on Netflix (which so damn stupid, GET SOME DAMN MOVIES I WANT TO WATCH!!) and my library doesn't carry them. Jaws - Thankfully the equipment was working because my god, it was amazing to see this movie on the big screen. The only oddity was the ***** was edited out at the end of the movie when Martin says, "You son of a *****!" I give it a 9/10 stars. |
Jurassic World - Still a 7/10.
Sweet Smell of Success - I'm honestly not sure how I feel about this movie. The cinematography was absolutely fantastic but the characters were just total assholes and not in a likable way. They were just giant jerk monkeys, but sadly, their punishment was not enough. It is either a 6 or a 7/10. |
Ride the Pink Horse - Wow, what a fantastic movie this was!! It was interesting, unique, and very well put together. The acting was great, especially from the guy that played Pancho, who was down right awesome. I loved the ending because it did not turn out to be anything like what I was expecting. It didn't have as much style as other Film Noirs I have seen have done, but it sure as hell made up for it with its substance. I give it an 8/10 stars.
Terminator Genisys - The Good - Every time Arnold or JK Simmons talked, awesomesauce poured out. They were utterly fantastic and you could tell Arnold was clearly having fun reprising the T101. Not only that, but the aspect of screwing up time from time travel was a pretty neat idea and the stuff with John would have been really awesome if the trailers hadn't already spoiled it!! The Bad - Emilia Clark was horribly miscast and she seemed uncomfortable in her role. She is no Sarah Connor and they should have really gone for an unknown for the role. Also, there is a serious lack of character development and the plot does get really awkward when you think about it. The Ugly - OH MY GOD, the CGI is absolutely atrocious. It looks like a PS3 game most of the time, especially when they have CGI plastered over the 1984 T101. Also, the CGI for the T1000 looks no better than it did in 1992, which is quite sad. Overall, the movie is by far the best of the sequels that came out after T2, but still far from perfect. However, I went in with very low expectations and came out quite entertained thanks to Arnold's performance. The movie makes a lot of missteps and sequel baits (especially if you stay for the mid-credit scene, nothing after), but it did it well. The whole thing dealing with history changing was cool though and did something I was hoping to see done, so it gets bonus points for that. It is just a shame it did it in such a lazy haphazardly way. Nevertheless, if you go into this movie just wanting to watch an entertaining movie and can ignore how great the first two movies were, you can do much worse. If you are looking for a movie with great characters, a deep plot that makes sense, and the best special effects money can buy, go somewhere else. I give it a 7/10. |
After the rough patch I've been having for the past few months, Inside Out was the exact kind of movie I needed.
|
Blazing Saddles - This was my third time ever seeing this movie and it gets better with each viewing. My only complaint is that Khan's singing scene drags on for too long. The jokes are hilarious and the breaking the fourth wall bits are great. I give it an 8/10.

In response to the announcement of the sweet Nakatomi edition Blu-ray set, I am rewatching one of the greatest Christmas films of all time: the original Die Hard.

The Living Daylights - Finally, a really great Bond movie again and it starts off Dalton's short changed career as Bond with a bang. I give it a great 7/10.
Minions - A great brainless funny movie with very little plot or character development. It has a lot of hilarious moments though, but ultimately, it is a one time watch movie. The minions just can not handle an entire movie on their own. Thankfully, the rest of the cast is great. I give it a 6/10. |
Just watched "Oz The Great and Powerful". I got it at Half Priced Books. Has anyone else seen it? Because there's this narration throughout the whole movie and I was wondering if it was the actual movie or I got some kind of....extra disk..?

Not that I'm aware of. The narration is like someone is reading a book, describing things. But yet what the narrator says isn't showing up with the captions. Yeah, I watch with the captions on.

I already watched it Kain. I love Mila Kunis and Zach Braff.

Kiss Me Deadly - What a fantastic movie this was. It had a lot of great characterization even if the main character as an Ahole. There was a lot of creativity going on with it, the cinematography was superb, the locations Mike visited were beautiful to see, it was all an incredible movie. Not to mention it is THE movie that started the box with the shiny mystery to it that has been done in several movies since, which was an unexpected pleasure. The only negatives I can really give the movie is that the pacing does come off a little slow at times. Other than that, another solid Noir film that gets an 8/10.
|
The Man Who Knew Too Much - I like the remake better, A LOT better. That doesn't make this a bad movie by any means, as I did enjoy it, but I can definitely see why Hitchcock remade it. It is just sloppy at times and the plot moves way too quickly. There just isn't enough time given to the family to make you care for them. Also, the opera scene is too short. Overall, I give it a 7/10, but it is one of the weakest Hitchcock movies I've seen so far.
Foreign Correspondent - Not as amazing as I was told, but still a great movie overall. It had some really fantastic moments to it, but the romance between Jones and the daughter was just way too forced. There is no way they could just instantly fall in love with each other just like that. The last little bit was shocking though as I never saw that coming. Still not anywhere near his best works, but certainly superior to The Man Who Knew Too Much. I also give this movie a 7/10. |
Ant-man
Fantastic. Really fleshes out the Marvel Universe and deserves a sequel but unfortunatly isn't getting one. |

Does Kung fury count despite being half an hour long as a movie?
If so I watched that, the best 80s action parody thing thing ever and would definitely watch something like that again. |

Kingsman - I was kind of worried about rewatching this since I wasn't sure if it was going to be as good as the first time, but it was. The church scene is still hands down the most fun and gorgeous scene of the movie and is probably the greatest cinematic experience to come out this year. The choreography and cinematography is exotically breath taking. It still doesn't feature the greatest character development ever, yet, it has a lot of heart and is just a well made movie over all. I think I'm going to up my score from a 7 to an 8.
|
Tomorrow Never Dies - A pretty good movie with some great action and banter between James and Lin. It isn't as good as Goldeneye, but still a pretty solid entry that is better than most of Moore's run. Carver was also a nice change of pace from the villains who want to rule the world with an iron fist. I give this one a 7/10. Too bad it all goes downhill from here with Brosnan.
|
Cinderella - I haven't watched this movie since 1993 and now I remember why. It is easily one of the weakest movies in Disney's library because it has barely any story and the characters are unlikable and shallow. "I want someone to come and take me out of this life instead of doing something for myself." Oh give me a freaking break!!! Not to mention the prince just happens to pick her out of all of those people in the crowd? Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. Also, the step mother is not even that interesting of a villain. She isn't evil, she is just selfish spoiled brat. The animation is pretty good and it does move at a brisk pace thankfully. Nevertheless, I give it a 6/10 stars.

The World is Not Enough - Man, how can a movie that has such a promising first half turn into a piece of **** in its second half? The movie has a great set up, but falls to pieces once Christmas is introduced and the whole thing becomes just a generic, predictable, boring, movie. Oh look, ANOTHER submarine finale. Oh, Elektra really was the villain the whole time, how surprising. How many times did it take her to say nuclear physicist? Does she even have any survival instincts or her own and does Bond have to tell her what to do the entire time? That is the absolute worst pun in the history of the franchise. Even those found in Moonraker are not as bad as that. Overall, I give this dose of hog wash **** a 4/10 because of its first hour.
|
Man of Steel. I can see why it's problematic, but it's still my favorite live-action Superman movie. I rewatched it today and it's actually a lot more enjoyable than I remembered.
One of the little things they did was have Lois always call Clark "Clark." It's a subtle touch I never noticed before, but it's one I liked. Superman, after all, is only what Clark Kent can do. Everything about him couldn't exist without Clark Kent and his upbringing. |
I just saw Super Hero Taisen GP: Kamen Rider 3. It was pretty good, but I always get confused*when watching a movie with time paradoxes and changing the past and future.
|
Thor 2: Better than I was expecting. Not my favorite part of the MCU, but I'm still glad I saw it. 7.2/10
Big Hero 6: Loved every minute of it, now my third favorite Marvel movie. 8/10 |
Goosebumps - If you grew up in the 90s you most likely know at least the basics of Goosebumps. It's basically a bunch of horror stories written for all ages to enjoy. The movie itself is like a love letter to the books. It's plot is pretty much like Jumanji, but with the Goosebumps monsters and it. As a whole, the movie is quite fun and Jack Black did a fantastic job as RL Stine. The movie does a nice job of building up to the events of the main story and it feels like an actual Goosebumps book. There is so much fanservice to those who have read the books and stuff in there to keep all ages in enjoyment. Overall, I give it a 7/10. Oh, we saw it in 3D because it was cheaper and there is no reason to see it in 3D as there is nothing mind blowing about it.
Casino Royale - This was my first Bond film and it is still one of the best films of the entire franchise. The parkour chase scene towards the beginning is just down right amazing and I love that they kept the torture scene from the book towards the end of the movie. It does a fantastic job at rebooting the universe without making it feel forced and what not. Easily a 9/10. Quantum of Solace - Well Craig's career went downhill fast. Okay, not really, but compared to CR, this movie blows. It just has way too much action, shaky cam, and crap to really feel like a Bond movie. Yet, if it wasn't a Bond movie, it would just be another generic forgettable action movie. The opera house scene is easily the best scene of the entire movie and ultimately saves the movie from being a total waste of time. The plot is blah and the villains are extremely lackluster, but Bond kicks ass. It gets a 6/10, but it is far better than nearly anything Moore and Brosnan did. Bram Stoker's Dracula - The 4K remaster of ths new Ugly Cover edition is absolutely stunning. There are some truly fine details I never noticed were around before and the new audio track is so much superior than the old one. My god, if Sony had actually used the original poster art for this movie it would be a perfect release. Nevertheless, I've talked about how much I love this movie many times so I'll just leave here with the yearly 9/10 stars. |
I'm watching "Rising Dead". It's not half bad. It could use a little more work than what went into it. The lead male is a douche that overcomplicates things, like his escape. But all in all I give it 7/10.
|
Watched "Beasts with No Nation". Remembered why I hate humans, and yet love Idris Elba.
