I recall that in Zero 2, Gennai gave all the old guard some sort of power up that let them reach Ultimate, but then most of them, save Gabumon and Agumon, gave it up to Imperialdramon to unfreeze him from SkullSatanmon's attack and let it digivolve to Fighter mode.

Or in short, because they're the main two, and Digimon is known for that bullshit.

And don't worry. I'm pretty certain they're just knocked out. I highly doubt that the 02 cast is dead. It would be incredibly insulting to their fanbase.

Except that they did. The events in this series contradict some established concepts from 02, such as Digimon being public knowledge, people from all over the planet possessing their own partners (With the Digidestined knowing this), and some other things that I probably forgot since I treat 02 like a fever dream.
This doesn't have much to do with the agency, but how our protagonists acted, treating the scenario as if they 8 are the only ones on the planet who can help, despite there being hundreds of other people and Digimon partners around.

I do not recall that, but everything about Imperialdramon is fucking stupid, so I don't doubt that it happened anyway...

If you hate Imperialdramon, good for you. I don't see a reason why the season 2 cast should settle on having a lead Digimon be weaker than Omnimon, so I never had a problem with him. I did take issue with everyone else giving up what power they had just gotten back to push him to a vague, better optimized Mega form, but that's more to do with the writers shafting other characters than a fault I have with Imperialdramon itself.

To be fair, they didn't keep the original Japanese cast either (for the humans), so even if you had watched it subbed it probably wouldn't help much. I imagine it's gonna be kind of jarring to me too when I get around to watching it.

Especially since they just cast hip new seiyuus.

I hate Imperialdramon simply because he invalidates the remainder of the cast. He's just too strong for his own good, I've always felt. It's kind of an inverse of Frontier. Both leads left the remainder of the cast sitting on their hands. One because they could help, but didn't need to because Imperialdramon basically Superman'd in and did all the work just by flexing, the other because they physically couldn't.

Why I hate every series that isn't Tamers.

I mean, a bunch of the boys were voiced by women in the original, so having them have the same voice in their late teens wouldn't really make sense (oh goku). Even Takeru got a different actor in 02. The girls could have easily kept their actors though, imo.

In general I guess I'm not opposed to the idea of them getting new actors, but I'm not thrilled with some of their choices, I guess.

Doesn't Savers also have everyone reach the same level of evolution? Even like. The extra level. I haven't seen it yet but that sounds good to me.
On the other hand, Tamers was great in this respect since the three leads all reached Ultimate level. But, there were a lot of other minor characters who never really got anything. Which yes, is mostly because they were minor characters to begin in and got added as tamers in weird spots (like, after their mon died, for one). Which still brings up the question of why they got Digimon at all to begin with. Doesn't make Tamers any less awesome, but it's still weird.

To be honest I don't know as when I tried to watch an episode of it I couldn't due to boredom because none of the cast interested me.

The epilogue from 02 is most likely still canon, just that they decided to show the long route towards it.

Imperialdramon power levels aside, can he even be used now? The 02 cast achieved DNA evolution thanks to Gennai using Gatomon's ring, with that back in her possession Omegamon is the only DNA evlution the whole cast has.

Xros Wars kind of got way from that, as Shoutmon X7 shoved pretty much every regular Digimon into it.
But then again it had so many other issues.

Yeah, all the mains in Savers got Burst Mode, which was cool. I really enjoyed it.

As for Tamers, only 3 characters didn't reach Ultimate, but it was offset in that 2 of them could achieve Perfect and one of them kind of died...
But still, they were useful (Hell, one of them, MarineAngemon was vital to fighting the D-Reaper).

Yep, everybody gets Burst Mode, the main two simply get fancier evolution sequences.

Yes, everyone one of the main four in Data Squad/Savers reached Mega/Ultimate and Burst Mode. Plus the non-goggle boy could punch out Digimon. Always fun.

It really was, though at least they did say that they had a power boost, so their beating wasn't completely out of nowhere.

And yeah, it really was. It helped it feel more like a Digimon series.

I'm not really referring to the epilogue. The ending of 02 featured Imperialdramon Dragon Mode flying around the world to help collect the other Digidestined to aid in their fights. Digimon were common knowledge, and there were multiple character with Digimon partners world wide before the epilogue happened...

Last I checked Gatomon's missing ring only meant she could armor digivolve like all the rookies, as she personally lost her power. It didn't have any effect on anyone else. Heck, isn't her getting it back why she could DNA digivolve with Aquilamon, since they were both on the same level and Gatomon actually had the power then to act like it?

Besides, he was in the Diaboromon Strikes Back movie just fine, which took place after Season 2, so there's no reason to believe he couldn't still be used. If he's still alive that is.

Gatomon missing the ring lowered her strength, yes. But while they did search for it in the episode where Silphymon debuted they didn't acually get it, it wasn't returned til episode 50, where Gennai told the cast that he used it to enable the DNA evolutions.

I should watch that thing one day.

Just looked it up, and since she had it in the 2nd Diaboromon movie (was a plot point/power-up), my guess is Gennai's use of it was permanent, so giving it back doesn't take away the DNA digivolving power, as Imperialdramon transformed just fine in the film.

Also just remember even in that film civilliqn where shocked to see Digimon so now that think bout it in tri seeing Digimon them shocked yet again but this time scared is even more confusing I mea. Was agency in tri around during the last 6 month and after revenge of diablomon they worked behind scene to cover the evidence I mean that big theory right there cause that twice now that digi serge surprised normal people

I notice that too. I do hope we find out on what happen to the Season 2 cast. I finish parts 2-4 of Tri and really like it. Besides some of the plot holes, it was awesome.

I remember Patamon turn into Seraphymon in the 02 Movie, but I don't think that's canon. Patamon never bother to transform into Seraphymon later on in 02.

They lost their crests between 01 and 02, it was stated as such by young Gennai around the BlackWarGreymon saga.

Every movie of digimon has plot hole and hurricane touch down movie ant cannon it the only digimon movie minus savers that has. Non cannon movie. Other then that adventure cannon film had plot hole I mean I just mention civilian being shocked on seeing digimon yet again after what three month passed of revenge of Diablo mon so this agency Gennai was working with did they do cover up on all the digimon events

Watched tri (4 episodes is all that it is for now, right?) and I enjoyed it. A little bit too much talking nonsense for my taste, but it was nice seeing a reunion done right.

I don't particularly like the re-designs. I mean yeah sure, Infected Digimon, but why do the Digimon of the protagonists look different too? They are not infected, right?

But the new Digimon is cute, interested to see what she (?) digivolves into. Also, Huckmon is in everything these days, isn’t he?

And Alphamon could've been a little bit more meaningful, hope that gets better in the next episodes.

So yeah overall I enjoyed it aside from some small things, and I'm eager to see the rest next year.

Not a bad start to Tri. But with how perfectly it split into 4 parts... Crunchyroll adding opening and closing videos to each one even... Yeah this is totally still the 24 episode show it was originally meant to be, isn't it?


Right off the bat I just want to complain about Alphamon. I've been saying since he was revealed in teasers that I hate he's an antagonist. Just for once I'd like the Royal Knights to be allies from the start, assuming he even ever turns around. I don't see that happening ugh. I would have also liked him to have at least spoken... It's Alphamon of all the freaking Knights to choose! He better have a good reason and to not have him react to an Omegamon showing up before him... Bleh. Just too mindless.

Huckmon being there (thanks, totally didn't recognize him at first) at least leaves me with some hope that there are actually other Knights active and they're not just using one as an antagonist only because it makes for an easy powerful enemy.

Having one of the DigiDestined have a moral dilemma over their actions due to the destruction it causes after growing up a bit makes sense to me. I was even fine with it being Tai. Loved that this time Matt had to talk him out of it. I was going to be glad it was gotten out of the way in just the first act, but then that bit at the very end showing he hasn't actually sucks. There's our ongoing conflict between them I guess, even though we don't really need it.

But what's more annoying is ignoring the rest of the 02 cast. Of course we know what happened to them, and hell even this mysterious agency (tangent, yay Gennai was referenced!) was keeping tabs on them. But our cast did not bring them up once? Bullshit. Even a single line saying they couldn't be contacted (derp wonder why) when supposedly assembling the team might have sufficed. It was just weird to not see them mentioned outright.

I loved the new evolution sequences. Shame we didn't get them for the Perfects and Ultimates or even Omegamon at the end. That would've been cool. Although seeing the other Didimon besides the "main" in their Perfect and even finally giving them Ultimates in future installments would be cooler..

So with Alphamon, why do we assume he's the antagonist? He seems to be after the new cat Digimon, and the thing has glowing red eyes and strange powers. I wouldn’t be surprised if that cat Digimon is actually the real threat (unwillingly?) and Alphamon just tries to delete it.

But yes, it seems like the Royal Knights don't exist in the Adventure-verse. Also, no Yggdrasil, at least not shown yet.

I agree with the 02 cast however. It is strange that we see them falling, that Hikari and Takeru have their 02 Digivices yet no one mentions the 02-guys. Like, shouldn’t they at least try to contact them? If they did fall against Alphamaon (or someone else) in the Digital World, shouldn’t their parents search for them and shouldn’t the other guys know of this by now? Rather strange.

And yes, Huckmon also just sits there. Why… I have no idea.

If we finally do get to see the Adventure cast all reach Ultimate, that'd be grand (Though Gato/Tailmon will probably use the more popular Ophanimon design in lieu of Magnadramon).

Well, that's because he is. We don't know anything about him, but by fighting our heroes, he's kind of the current antagonist and villain of the story (Ignoring how he totally saved their asses from Kuwagamon).
I'm honestly not surprised if Meicoomon turns out to pull a Dorumon and has a strange secret making it super significant and dangerous.
