Yeah. G Gundam was made in '94, so it's dated animation really does bring it down some. It certainly wouldn't hurt to get a HD re-release.

Penguindrum 3.
So the show is still largely directionless, I mean I know there is the quest for the Pengiundrum but no one knows what the hell that is and so the last two episodes have just involved our heroes following a creep around some Japanese city. I would say this show was flat out boring if it wasn't for the comedy penguins. And before someone says it, I recognise that at its core, it's just a very human story about human things but I dunno, I find it hard to care about human stories that are animated. I know that makes no sense, but I dunno, I just find these stories more easily engageble when realised in the real world, even if it's really just an artificial set in reality. Plus this show is still really weird. It's almost like a horror movie but played as a goofball comedy and that somehow only makes it more disturbing. Also what the hell is with Japan and curry? And that diary, is this Mirai Nikki? |
Watched Bakemonogatari episode 3.
I remember why I never got past this episode now, its just so boring in comparison to the first two. Plus are there parks really that cool in Japan? |

Also, G came first, anyway. |

Or not, who knows :p |
Gundam would see a re-emergence if they would just change the story a little. Look, I love Gundams. But every story since Mobile Suit Gundam, except for things like 8th MS Team and G Gundam, follow that exact story. The Evil Orginization in Space, the Main Anti-Hero in Red with a Mask. And on and on and on again. SEED Destiny even brought back ZAKU's!
If they came back to the United States with an original story, with original characters, it would sell. Or if they even made an updated Mobile Suit Gundam with updated character and mech designs. I'd watch and buy all of that. All of it. |

Granted, I only know this from Wing and UC fans who absolutely loathed G, and not the fanbase as a whole... |

But it's the only way they're going to lure in people who aren't die hard "OMG HEERO IS SO HOT" Wing Fans and begin selling again in America. Then MMPR is selling so well again maybe they don't really want to. |
America wanted Gundam Wing 2. Japan had moved on to Turn A. It's unfortunate.
Especially if you were never big into Wing, while the rest of your country couldn't get enough of it. |

And I can't say no to a cross-dressing trap. |

It's even worse in Nisemono, it took them like 5 episodes to actually use Karen in her own arc. That said Hitagi's role gets kinda diminished in the next episode. So there's that. |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8um1N78AhY Yes, you just saw that. Wheelchair bound GunTank was almost a thing that happened. Fear what America can do to Gundam. Anyways, the problem is Gundam is aimed at teens. In the US, that age group is still told to stop playing with toys. Gundam is reliant on toy sells, sadly. So if it's no marketable to the audience intended, they're more likely to change to an audience that will buy their toys, thus the US gets SD Gundam Force. Quote:
Meanwhile, I just finished Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040. It's okay. Still wondering why it's called Bubblegum Crisis and not Knight Sabers. Seriously, what's bubblegum have to do with anything? That's all I got to say. An okay anime from the late 90's. |
Rocket powered wheelchair... Rocket powered wheelchair...
Any complaint UC fans had against the AU series is automatically null. |
US didn't even get all of SD Gundam Force. We got like, 1 season, then end.

I liked SD Gundam Force.. What was wrong with SD?
And yea, I know, you;ve shown that before. But I can hope we can do better now. All evidence to the contrary. |
We did get a lot of Gundam aired here in the US after Wing aired. We got G Gundam, 8th MS Team, 0080, 0083, Mobile Suit Gundam, Gundam Seed, Gundam 00, etc. It was a good run. It would be nice if some of the kids networks reaired a few of those to get the kids into Gundam. Maybe one day other series will be brought over but I can understand why they aren't buying a lot of the new stuff. I would like to see more Macross come over first.

Watched episode six of G-GUNDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM now I'm in from my first shift.
So now the story really IS moving. But eh, I'm getting pretty tired of these ridiculously elaborate plans for fairly simple goals, all it does is bog down the tension and create a false sense of mystery because they clearly don't have enough faith in the show to think they can intrigue you any other way, it's Black all over again. And as ever the action is epic, the Gundam designs are ugly. I think the Dragon Gundam is the only design I've really liked in this show so far. I also laughed hard at Domon going super saiyan. I don't even understand, Devil Gundam? Why? When they kept saying that I expected some bright red Gundam with like a pitchfork, a big cape and massive horns. No wonder they changed the name in the dub. All the other names have fit fine though. Plus, I know this show is ridiculous anyway, but it seemed almost too far for me to have the main villain Gundam have the same powers as Majin Buu. Especially as these sorts of devices usually end up having the writers write themselves into a corner. |
Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn, FUnimation is on fire!!!
Have you guys seen all of the Bandai license rescues they have done? They got things like a BD release for Cowboy Bebop, then there is Code Geass, Escaflowne, Outlaw Star, My-Hime, and several others series. Oh, and Sentai Filmworks have also saved other series like Big O. |
Toonami totally refuled my love for One Piece, something that hasn't surfaced since around 2007 or 08.
|
Here is the list:
At the Sunrise panel at Otakon, some Bandai Entertainment license rescues were announced. Surprisingly, Sentai Filmworks license rescued The Big O. UPDATE: FUNimation announced that they have also license rescued Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, Escaflowne, and the My-HiME shows. The license rescues include: FUNimation - Tales of the Abyss - Witch Hunter Robin - Banner of the Stars (seasons 1 & 2) - Angel Links - Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (seasons 1 & 2 with Akito the Exiled) - Crest of the Stars - Passage of the Stars - Birth - Cowboy Bebop - Outlaw Star - The Vision of Escaflowne (with the movie) - My-HiME - My-Otome - My-Otome 0~S.ifr~ - My-Otome Zwei Sentai Filmworks - s-CRY-ed - Argento Soma - Betterman - Brain Powered - Infinite Ryvius - Overman King Gainer - Sacred Seven - The Big O (seasons 1 & 2) - Zegapain - Z-Mind - The Girl Who Leapt Through Space - Kurokami: The Animation |

The question remains, unless I missed some news (which is likely, I don't keep up with anime news much), what about Gundam?! Gundam can be a success again if a company that cared got ahold of it. Age or Build Fighters needs to be airing alongside DBZ or Yugi-Oh. It can have a toy line and everything. Then for the adult fans (aside from uncut DVDs of whatever aired), get one of the old shows that was either unaired or never released stateside and put it on Toonami. I don't want to see the Gundam license go the way of Macross. |

Episode 4 of Penguindrum was really amusing, if totally pointless.
Everyone keeps going on about this shows deep well of depth but it's hard to get to that when the show is constructed like an episode of Family Guy. Maybe it'd be easier if I cared about Ringo, which I think I am meant to do, but they've made her so unlikeable I don't pity her, I just find her pathetic. The ending, as usual though, had a great hook though that made me want to keep watching. |
You're 4 episodes in dude, you're not supposed to like Ringo yet :lol right now she just comes across as an extremely weird and pathetic character.
One of the main things I love about Penguindrum is that nothing is really as it seems in the first episodes. Everything changes and while it's a show that admittedly you have to stick all the way through to get the full effect, the pay off is completely worth it. |
Is it bad that I haven't seen Bebop yet?
